Chapter 5 Speechless

He’s probably in the bathroom, right, Dr. Brooks? How about we wait for him by the entrance?”

Amy finished drying her hands, crumpled the paper towel, and threw it in the trash.

She took her phone off her shoulder. The call had ended abruptly.

“You can head back first. I’ll wait for him by the door.

Alright then, hope you have a great date tonight.”

Amy smiled and stayed quiet.

Once it was quiet outside, Wesley finally let go of Layla. She slumped onto the toilet seat, clutching her clothes tightly, her fingers trembling a bit.

He looked down at her. After knowing her for so long, it seemed that only in moments like this he could see some unusual emotions in her eyes.

He straightened his clothes and said to Layla, Eight o’clock tonight.”

After saying that, he walk success

It was as if nothing had happened, just like before. He told her the exact time, like he always did without any unnecessary

to tell you.”

Twenty minutes later, Layla finally emerged from the restroom, and her coworkers had already left.

Layla was on duty until two in the morning. During that time, Wesley called her, but she didn’t pick up.

Layla had never disobeyed him before. Whenever he said to meet, she would be there on time.

But this time, she wanted to be a little rebellious.

He was about to get married, and if she bothered him again, not only would Zachary look down on her, but she would also feel degraded.

Wesley had only called once. After she didn’t answer, he didn’t call again.

Layla secretly let out a sigh of relief.

At onethirty in the morning, there were a few emergencies at the hospital.

She was called to help, and as she entered, she saw Zachary sitting there with a swollen nose and a bruised face, his arm bleeding heavily from a wound.

There were three other teenagers with him, who Layla recognized as Zachary’s friends.

What happened?Layla rushed over, grabbing some tools to clean and bandage Zachary’s wound.

Zachary stayed silent.

Another guy spoke up defiantly, “Some guys at the bar started trouble, so we got into a fight.

Layla’s hands paused. She looked up and studied Zachary’s expression.

He turned away, looking disdainful. It seemed like he had no intention of telling Layla anything else.

After tending to his wound, Layla wrapped it up with gauze. Zachary got up, ready to leave.

Layla stopped him. “Hold on, I’ll come with you.”

It was almost the end of her shift anyway. She changed clothes and grabbed her shoulder bag from her locker before leaving the hospital.

Even though Zachary didn’t like her, he obediently waited in the hospital lobby.

He was worried that it was late and she might be in danger walking alone at night. She could easily get robbed before reaching home.

A warmth flickered in Layla’s eyes when she saw him waiting for

her.

Zachary still didn’t say anything. He turned to walk out, limping a bit. Every time Layla saw his back, her heart ached uncontrollably.

None of your business,Zachary replied without looking back, his tone unfriendly.

“Can you maybe avoid going to the bar?She asked cautiously.

Zachary stopped, turning to look at her. The streetlight made the hatred in his eyes even clearer.

I sing at the bar. At least I’m making money with my talent. Unlike you, who only rely on men. You’re not qualified to lecture

me!”

Layla’s heart stung, but she couldn’t replace words to defend herself against Zachary’s accusations.

No response?”

Layla bit her lip hard, and after a long pause, she slowly looked up, her face pale. “Zachary, I didn’t take his money.

A mocking smile appeared on Zachary’s face. “Then why did you go to see him? You always rush to him when he calls. Are you his pet? Can’t you live without him?
