Chapter 47

The warning sent chills down Rebecca’s spine She glanced at Harvey, who was already deep in thought.

We need to see Nicholas, Harvey said, his voice resolute. “Get the truth straight from him. He exclaimed,

Glen looked reluctant but finally nodded. “I can arrange a visit. But be careful. He’s not the same person you remember.”

Rebecca felt guilty. No matter how bad Nicholas was, they were once so close to each other. If only he could control his feeling, his emotions, everything would never be that

chaotic.

The next day, Harvey and Rebecca found themselves standing outside the imposing walls of the county jail. The gray building loomed over them, a stark reminder of the reality they were facing, Harvey squeezed Rebecca’s hand for reassurance as they walked through the security checks and metal detectors.

“I never imagined we’d be here,” Rebecca said softly, her voice filled with unease.

“Neither did I, Harvey replied, his grip tightening on her hand. “But we need to get answers. We need to put an end to this.”

After what felt like an eternity, they were led into a small, sterile visitation room. A thick pane of glass separated them from the inmates, with phones on either side to

communicate. They sat down, waiting for Nicholas to be brought in.

When Nicholas finally entered, Rebecca’s heart skipped a beat. He looked different- older, harder. There was a coldness in his eyes that she hadn’t seen before. He picked up the phone on his side of the glass, and they did the same.

“Nicholas,” Harvey began, his voice steady. “We need to talk.”

Nicholas smirked, leaning back in his chair. “Harvey, Becky darling. To what do I owe the pleasure?”

Rebecca felt a surge of anger at his nonchalance. “Cut the crap, Nic. We know you’ve been having Glen follow us. Why?”

Nicholas’s smile faded, replaced by a look of mild irritation. “Why do you think? You

left me, Becky Your chose him over me. I had to know what you were up to.

Harvey leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. So you decided to terrorize us? What do you hope to gain from this?

Nicholas shrugged. “I just wanted to make sure you didn’t forget about me. Looks like it worked.

Rebecca felt a mix of fear and fury. “This has to stop, Nic. You can’t keep doing this. We’re trying to move on with our lives.

Nicholas’s expression darkened. “You think you can just move on? You think you can just leave me behind?”

“Yes,” Harvey said firmly. “That’s exactly what we’re going to do. And you need to accept that.”

Nicholas’s eyes flashed with anger. “You don’t get it, do you? You don’t get to just walk away from me.”

Rebecca’s heart pounded in her chest. “Nicholas, please. This isn’t healthy. You need help.”

Nicholas laughed, a harsh, bitter sound. “Help? You think I need help? I’m not the one who abandoned everything for some fling.”

Harvey’s patience was wearing thin. “This isn’t a fling, Nicholas. Becky and I love cach other. And we’re not going to let you ruin that”

Nicholas’s face twisted in rage. “Love? You think you know what love is? You have no idea what I’ve been through, what I’ve done for you, Rebecca. Don’t you remember how this man dumped you and chose Alicia instead? Why are you so stupid, Becky? Why?”

Rebecca’s voice softened, trying to reach the Nicholas she once knew. “I know you’ve been through a lot. But this isn’t the way to handle it. You need to let go.”

Nicholas’s eyes bore into hers, and for a moment, she saw a flicker of vulnerability. But it was quickly replaced by a hardened glare. “I’ll never let go what supposed to be mine. Never.”

The visit ended with Nicholas being escorted back to his cell, leaving Harvey and Rebecca feeling a mix of frustration and unease. As they exited the jail, Harvey wrapped an arm around Rebecca, pulling her close.

secek nodded, leaning into his embrace. I just want to live our lives without fear. Wahou looking over our shoulders. Why can’t everyone leave us alone?”

They drove back to their temporary house, the talk with Nicholas Fresh in their minds. The truth of their situation weighed heavy of them, but they vowed to confront it together.

Harvey drew Rebecca into his arms when they sat on the couch later that evening. “No matter what happens, we have cach other,” he said quietly, kissing her forehead.

Rebecca glanced up at him, her eyes full of affection. “I know. And that’s what keeps me going.

Harvey cupped her face, his gaze intense. “I love you, Becky. More than anything.”

“I love you too, Harvey,” she replied, tears brimming in her eyes.

They spend the night watching movies, playing games and drinking to forget how scary the outside world is.

“It’s funny, isn’t it? How our life works?” muttered Rebecca while playing Harvey’s nose. “If I didn’t waste you on our first marriage, maybe things wouldn’t be this bad. I think I’ve been fell in love with you since day one, otherwise I would never sleep with you. I just, I don’t know what love was. I thought what I felt to Alicia was love but it was not. She manipulated me. I was so-”

“Ssh, it’s in the past. I know, you don’t need to explain it again. Let’s get some rest,” Rebecca suggested, pulling Harvey close. “We have a lot to figure out tomorrow.” “Harvey…”

“Yeah?” Harvey looked her attentively.

“Don’t you feel tired with all this? It’s like never ending drama. I’m longing living in peace,” said Rebecca almost in a whisper.

“Do you want to give up on us?” asked Harvey, fear was on his face.

“No, of course not!”
