CHAPTER 5

Memories seem to be bombarding me more often of late, Cal thought to himself in surprise. He smiled a most menacing and cunning smile as the latest memory drifted into his thoughts. Cal recalled how he had been the reason why people had begun to notice supernatural beings amongst the naive, worthless human beings in 1642.

By the time he had sated his hunger and revenge, he had become the most wanted and hated ‘man’ in all of Europe. His evil goings-on had made its mark upon the human world but in doing so, caught the attention of the witches who secretly lived amongst the humans, who were basically hiding in plain sight. Once he realized he had the ability to transform other humans into the monster he had become, his antics caused them to pay much closer attention to Cal. The wretched witches took it upon themselves to become the saviors of humanity. If they had only known what those precious humans would do to them for saving their race, they would have joined him on his war path instead; or so he thought.

It took everything within Cal not to laugh at what happened to the witches after they ‘defeated’ him. The battle that ensued between he and the Covens was a phenomenal sight to have witnessed. With his newfound speed, strength, and agility, he was definitely a force to be reckoned with. Cal took down many an opponent. Ultimately though, the witches were able to outsmart him, enabling them to rip his soul from his body, sending him to the afterworld.

This entailed them to use many different elements of magic, powerful spells, and chants. Because of the battle that occurred, humans began to notice the powers that fell around them, the magic that lit up the sky. Though he had been removed from the earthly realm, he was still able to watch the goings-on of the world from the spirit realm. He, having been the only one of his kind ever, the powers above had no clue as how to deal with him and so they left him alone in the afterlife instead of trying to figure out what to do with him.

So he watched, laughing and giggling as he was highly entertained as the humans the witches tried so hard to protect, turned on them. The humans executed them, hung them, and burned them at the stake. They begged for mercy, begged for their lives, but the atrocious humans disregarded their words claiming them instead to be in league with the Devil. They were evil demons that were to be rid of from the world! Serves them right! He thought to himself as the memory began to fade from his mind.

As Cal oriented himself within the new world, he felt a pull, an overwhelming feeling of power radiating from a small island town called Nahant, in something called a State, named Massachusetts. And so he claimed residence inside an abandoned warehouse. He stayed hidden there during the day and ventured out only when darkness took over the sky.

Upon his second night wandering, Cal had his first encounter with a witch hunter. He was surprised to have come across the young lad of human decent. Usually, well in the first run of his life that is, he had been able to feel which towns housed the atrocious supernatural hating beings and would avoid those areas. In this location though, magic, and non-magic beings seemed so evenly balanced out that his curiosity of what was going on, seemed to suck him in.

With his agility and speed, Cal was able to attack the twenty-something male. Having been able to transform humans once before into ‘demons’ like himself, he was highly intrigued to see if he would be able to transform them this time around as well. To his utter amazement, he found that these human beings seemed to handle the transition even smoother and quicker than the humans prior had. Simply amazing, he thought to himself. I could build an army in no time and take control of this state in no time at all!

Twelve hours after Cal had bitten the young lad, the shaggy blonde-haired, blue-eyed boy woke up. Cal shared a menacing smile as he lounged in one of a few chairs that had been left behind like a king before asking; “what is your name, young one?”

“Um,” the boy hesitated as he tried to get his bearings; “my name is Joey. Where am I?” He asked as he took in the vast empty space of the warehouse. Turning his attention back to Cal he continued his questions, “what in the world happened to me and more importantly who the hell are you?” The daze that had consumed his mind was slowly clearing enabling him to focus on his surroundings.

“You my son, are the first in what I hope will be an army unlike anyone has ever seen before.” Cal stared at Joey until Joey was forced to turn his eyes from him.

“Wh-what are you?” Joey stumbled over his words as a sense of fear began to take over him.

“All will be revealed in due time my child.” Offering Joey a half sneer, half demonic smile, Cal stared off into the emptiness himself. All in due time, he thought to himself while contemplating what his next step was to be.
