Chapter 8
Chapter 8
“Dad!” Vanessa rushed over.
Danny also freaked out and immediately rushed to the nurse, gesturing and babbling anxiously.
“I’ll get the doctor.” The nurse ran out of the ward inmediately.
“Dad, don’t scare me. Vanessa knelt on one knee in front of the bed. She reached out to hold Henry’s hand and pressed his hand to her face.
“Don’t cry, kid…” said Henry with difficulty as he opened his eyes. He felt sorry for Vanessa.
He looked at William again.
William immediately squatted down next to Vanessa.
“Take good care of my daughter for me…” Henry looked at William earnestly.
“Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll take good care of Vanessa and Danny,” replied William.
A bunch of doctors rushed in.
The bald chief doctor quickly lifted Henry’s eyelids and said, “take him to the emergency room.”
A nurse came over with a stretcher bed.
“Family member, please carry the patient to the bed,” said a doctor.
Vanessa was ready to carry Henry.
William stepped ahead and said, “I got this!”
He lifted the sheets and gently placed Henry on the stretcher bed.
If he didn’t do it, he wouldn’t have believed how light an adult man could be.
He wondered if Keith had arrived in the country.
He suddenly realized that he had turned off his phone. While turning it on, he helped Danny and Vanessa push the stretcher bed to the emergency room.
Henry was sent to the emergency room. Vanessa was feeling a little weak. She saw Danny looking eagerly at the emergency room’s lights, so she perked up and used sign language to comfort him. “Don’t worry, Danny. Dad will be alright.”
Danny nodded hard and gestured back in sign language.
The siblings comforted each other.
Danny regretted agreeing with his dad and helping him to be discharged yesterday.
William was about to call Keith when Keith’s call came first. “William, have you lost your mind? What the… you asked me to rush back to save someone, but you turned off your phone and disappeared. If I hadn’t saved Ben’s number in my phone, I would’ve gone to your Highland Villa. That distance would kill me.”
“Where are you now?” asked William.
“Where else can I be? I’m about to arrive at Lantrie Medical Hospital. I had planned to grab a cheeseburger at Kolby Restaurant along the way, but I gave up the idea for fear it would delay. Oh, and did you get your marriage license?” Keith chattered away like a chatterbox.
“Yes,” William responded and then got to the point. “Keith. My father–in–law was sent to the emergency room.”
“What? Wait up. I’ll have the driver run a red light. Oh shoot, I didn’t have time to buy a gift for your new wife. Anyway, the patient comes first. Keith hung up the phone.
William glanced at his phone and saw over thirty WhatsApp messages. They were all from Tracy. He clicked on Tracy’s profile picture and muted her message notifications.
Why not block her?
He wanted her to see him become the heir of the Hawk Group before doing so!
Danny kept tiptoeing to see what was going on inside, but he couldn’t see anything. He paced in front of the emergency
room.
Vanessa became even more anxious when she saw Danny like this.
“Don’t worry. He will be okay,” said William reassuringly as he walked over to Vanessa.
“Yes, Vanessa responded.
Chapter 8
Her heart felt like a saw was cutting through it. It was excruciating.
She knew that her father might not hold on any longer.
It was indescribable pain to see one’s family member coughed up blood right in front of you, to push them to the emergency room, and to feel their life slipping away….
A few minutes later, the doors of the emergency room opened. The chief doctor came out with a gloomy expression. He sighed and said. “Miss, we did our best.”
When she heard this. Vanessa’s knees went weak, and she collapsed. William supported her.
“Oh… no…” Vanessa sobbed in pain.
She wanted to be strong, to hold back her tears, and be brave, but she couldn’t control herself.
Even though she knew her dad might… might not make it out safely, it was a devasting pain when it became a reality.
“William, what’s going on here?” Keith rushed over with a suitcase, wearing a black hoodie. It looked like he was here on
vacation.
“Quick, help, he’s inside!” William was relieved when he saw Keith. It was as if he had seen a savior. He urgently pointed to the emergency room while supporting Vanessa.
Just in time, several assistant doctors pushed Henry out.
Henry lay quietly on the bed, showing no signs of life.
“Dad…” Vanessa stumbled and threw herself forward. William quickly supported her.
“I’m sorry for your loss.” The chief doctor let out a long sigh again.
If possible, they wanted to save Henry 100.
They had planned to do immunotherapy, but Henry’s condition was so bad that he couldn’t wait for the treatment.
“Please push him in and give me a set of sterile clothing. Thank you!” Keith shouted, forgetting about his suitcase.
Several doctors gave him sympathetic looks, but no one saw to his demands.
They had seen this situation many times before. Sometimes, family members have a hard time accepting the passing of their loved ones. Some of them might have a bit of knowledge in first aid and would want to take matters into their own hands.
A doctor said reluctantly, “Sir, we have tried our best to save him. Please accept our sincere condolences.”
Keith didn’t care about the sterile clothing anymore. He had already put his car on Henry’s chest to check his heartbeat.
“Cardiopulmonary resuscitation,” Keith said and immediately reached into his pocket.
He prepared the silver needle package in the car.
Seeing him take out a bunch of silver needles, several doctors felt helpless.
Keith decisively stuck the needle in the acupoint under Henry’s wrist and between his mouth and nose.
He immediately removed Henry’s clothes and started putting needles into other acupoints.
Vanessa’s eyes were red as she looked expectantly at William.
William looked at her and said, “He is a descendant of a family of traditional medicine doctors and a good friend of mine.”
“Thank you!” Vanessa’s eyes became even more hopeful.
“Ahem…”
After about (wo minutes, Henry suddenly coughed softly on the bed.
“Dad!” Vanessa cried again in excitement.
She had cried more times in the past few days than she ever had in her entire life.
Henry opened his eyes, feeling like he was in a whole new world.
He opened his mouth but was stopped by Keith. “Sir, don’t speak. Just lie down, relax, close your eyes, and breathe steadily.”
William told Keith that Henry had got late–stage liver cancer.
He knew Henry was at the end of his life when he checked his pulse earlier.
Even if he did an urgent acupuncture treatment for Henry, there were not many days left for Henry.
The bald chief doctor looked at Keith in shock and asked, “Young man, who are you?”
Chapter 8
“I’m also a doctor. Please help push the patient to the ward first. Thank you!” Keith replied.
“Hurry, help, push him to the ward,” the chief doctor immediately ordered.
The assistant doctors and nurses immediately dispersed and pushed Henry into the ward.
Keith opened the window of the ward. After asking the doctors and nurses to leave, he removed the needles from Henry’s body and poked fresh needles into other acupoints.
Henry vomited blood again. Vanessa‘ cried uncontrollably, her whole body trembling.
Keith comforted her. “It’s a good thing for him to cough up blood now. It’s good for his body.”
He couldn’t say Henry would get better against his judgment, so he only said it would be good for Henry’s health.
“Thank you, thank you!” Vanessa thanked Keith and instinctively bowed to him.
“Ah, no no no. Don’t do that. It’s what I should do.” Keith immediately stepped up to support Vanessa.
Then he introduced himself…
