Sunday came around sooner than Charlie had expected. She had to confess she was nervous;

she didn’t know what to expect. Vidar had told her the werewolves would do a lot of talking, most probably to explain about their way of living and try to convince her to join them. But still, there were a lot of unknowns. She was standing in the closet, looking at her clothes. She had no clue what to wear. Should she dress nicely and look at it as a business meeting? Or should she be prepared for trouble and go for something more practical? Vidar walked in, he looked sexy and dangerous all wrapped in one of his trademark suits. It really was unfair, she thought.

“Not that I usually would complain, but why are you in your underwear?” he asked with a smile and walked up to her as his eyes wandered all over her body.

“I don’t know what I should wear,” she said with a sigh. He walked up to her, wrapped his arms around her from behind and placed a kiss on her shoulder.

“You’ll look beautiful no matter what you wear,” he told her. She sighed again.

“That is not helpful, not at all,she pointed out. He laughed and kissed her shoulder again.

“I guess he agreed. “Do you want me to pick something out for you?” he asked.

it wasn’t

“Would you?

“It would be an honour. Are you sure you trust me? I could pick something you aren’t comfortable wearing,” he asked. It was Charlie’s turn to laugh.

“The way you have been growling and huffing for days at the mere thought of me being in the same room as Burt tells me you won’t dress me in some skimpy outfit,” she told him. He huffed and pulled her closer.

“You’re right about that. I could put you in something baggy, or jeans and one of my sweatshirts to make you smell like me,” he said.

“That won’t make me uncomfortable. Quite the opposite, I think.”

“Well, then I will do my best,” he told her and reached around her and looked at a couple of things before taking down a pantsuit and a leather jacket. “There you go,” he told her and kissed her shoulder again.

“Thank you,” she said, taking the clothes from him. He took a step back and waited. She turned towards him and waited as well.

“Aren’t you going to put them on?” he asked.

“I will, but the pantsuit you chose is strapless. I need a new bra.”

“Be my guest,” he said, taking a step aside so she could get to the dresser where her bras

were.

“You are going to watch, aren’t you?” she asked, amused, not expecting an answer. He leaned back against his dresser and watched her in silence. Charlie didn’t mind. He had seen her naked and in far more exposed situations than this. It was actually turning her on as she turned her back to him and unclasped her bra and let it slide down her arms. She threw it into the hamper and found a strapless one.

“Turn around.” Charlie slowly turned to face him and saw him watch her as she slowly covered her naked breasts with the new bra and clasped it in the back. She took the charcoal grey pantsuit and slipped her legs in it and pulled it up, all the time watching Vidar as he watched her. She turned her back to him and looked over her shoulder.

“Zip me up?” she asked. Vidar stood up and slowly moved towards her. There was something predatory in the way he moved that sent both a primal hint of fear through her, but also a stronger hint of arousal. Vidar slowly pulled the zipper up. There was a gentleness in the gesture that wasn’t reflected in his eyes that was locked with Charlie’s. When the zipper reached the top, he leaned into her.

“I will spend the evening fantasising about taking this thing off you,” he whispered. The tension between them was almost visible in the air.

“I can’t wait. Please try to not slice it, I really like it,” she told him. Vidar had a habit of getting frustrated if a garment took too long, in his opinion, to take off. More than one of her new clothes had met that fate. Charlie didn’t mind, but this pantsuit she really liked.

“I will do my best. If I can’t hold back, I will buy you a new one,” he promised, kissed her shoulder and drew back to lean against his dresser again. Charlie shook her head and reached out for a belt and buckled it around her waist, then she put on shoes with wedged heels. Vidar helped her on with the leather jacket and kissed her. “You look stunning,” he said.

“Thank you for your help,” she told him.

“Remember that you are mine. I don’t want to lose you tonight,” he said. Charlie saw a shadow of worry in his eyes. She put her hand on his cheek.

“I’m not going anywhere. You have been too good to me, so now you are kind of stuck with me. Sorry about that,” she said and kissed him.

“Don’t be sorry. It means I have done something right at least,” he murmured against her lips. “Ready?” he asked.

“Ready,” she agreed.

Malcom drove them, and Vidar spent the ride reminding her of the essentials of the meeting.

“I will be right by your side the entire time,” he said.

“I know,” she told him and smiled at him. He took her hand and placed a kiss on it.

‘Henry will be on you other side and the others will be at the table behind us, just three steps away,” he reminded her.

“I know,” she repeated. They had gone through all of this several times over the past days.

“Our men have the best spots and Caine will be your shadow. You won’t see him, but he will be close by.”

“I know, Vidar. I’m safe. I don’t feel unsafe or afraid. I always feel safe when you are by my side. But speaking of Caine, we should really have him over for dinner or something,” she said. Vidar froze and looked at her.

“Why?

“Why we should invite Caine for dinner?”

“Yes,” he said, studying her.

“Because he is the one that is always keeping me safe when you’re not there. It must be the most boring job he could have been handed. You also said he is your friend. I think we owe him a dinner at least,” she explained.

“He is getting paid quite a large monthly salary,” Vidar told her.

“I want to get to know him a little if he is to be my endow. I have only interacted with him

before I knew who he was. He seemed sweet.” Vidar burst out laughing.

“Maybe we do need to have him over, if you think of him as sweet. I hope you won’t be disappointed when you get to know him,” he told her.

“Of course I won’t be. He’s your friend and you think highly enough of him to entrust my safety to him. Don’t think I don’t know what it means,” she told him with a smile and leaned over and gave him a kiss on his cheek.

“Mr Grim, we’ll be arriving in three minutes,” Malcom told them.

“Thank you Malcom. Charlie, you stay in the car until I open the door and help you out,”

Vidar said.

I promise,” she said and ran through all the safety precautions Vidar had taught her. They pulled up to the front of the restaurant. It looked just like all the pictures Charlie had seen in the newspaper and tabloids. She remained in the car as Vidar got out. Malcom remained in his seat as well. She could see him constantly checking the mirrors. Vidar met Henry on the sidewalk beside the car and a group of other men Charlie didn’t recognise. Henry and Vidar spoke, and they both nodded. Vidar opened her door and reached his hand inside to help her out. Charlie took his hand and walked out to greet Henry.

“Charlie, you look as lovely as always,” Henry said, giving her a smile.

“Thank you, Henry. This place is just as amazing as I have heard,” she said, taking the picaresque restaurant in.

“You are too kind, but the real beauty is the inside. Let me show you,” he told her, gesturing

for her and Vidar to go inside. Henry had been right. The inside of the restaurant was adorable. It wasn’t a large space, but it was well planned, with tables spread out at a comfortable distance. The white linen cloths were immaculate, as were the folded napkins.

There were green plants that grew along the walls and ceiling. It was a mix of a high–class.

restaurant and a fairytale. The restaurant was empty except for three tables. At one table,

Millard, Adisa, Nasir, and Jun were sitting. They stood up as they saw the three of them enter. At another table four people sat, Charlie didn’t recognise any of them. At the third table, situated between the two other, Burt and his sister were sitting. They stood up as well, triggering the people at the second table to stand with them. Charlie was sure the restaurant usually had a romantic atmosphere to it. Tonight, the tension could be cut with a knife. Vidar put his arm around her waist and pulled her close as they walked toward Burt and his sister.

“Charlie, how nice it is to see you again,” Burt said with a big smile and took a step towards. her. Vidar growled in a low voice and the other vampires followed suit, triggering the werewolves to growl as well. Charlie was all of a sudden in a room full of growling magical beings.
