Book 1 of Alpha Wolf: Mate Mine -
Chapter 69 ~ 'Run, Mate'
A few miles away, Mirko was yanking his arms out of two stomachs and watched the intestines slide out of two different wolves. The sight of guts pouring out was brutal and gruesome. But the Alpha was used to it. And, in the end, it was either their guts or his.
When he was about to smash another larynx, a certain scent caught his attention. Overwhelmed by smells of blood and corpses, Mirko had not yet noticed that his favorite odour in the entire universe and beyond was floating in the air.
By sheer coincidence, at the same time, Crucifero’s wolf raised his head and sniffed the air with a confused look.
At that point, it was impossible to distinguish his fur from the blood that smeared it, since the wolf was red.
Both Mirko and Crucifero sniffed the air a second time and both smelled the only thing that could distract them. Both werebeasts smelled the only weakness they could ever have. Both of their heads snapped in the same direction. And confusion and surprise were the first emotions that crossed their scary and beautiful faces.
Soon after, a growl escaped Crucifero’s muzzle as Mirko stood puzzled. Fear swept through him as recognition lodged in his brain.
The Black Alpha and the Killing Machine had smelled their mates....their mates were there!!
Abandoning the fight, letting the remaining rogues escape, the two followed the unmistakable smell, until they reached a group of trees further south. They turned a corner and, as expected, there they were. Their companions. Fighting in their respective wolf forms against a group of wolves of different sizes.
‘Is this a fucking mirage?’ A wide-eyed Mirko murmured to a stunned Crucifero, who replied with a yelp.
‘What the hell is she doing here?’ Anger began to infiltrate him as he watched his mate fight.
Then two things happened at the same time.
A wolf bit Elena’s tail, causing her to whimper slightly, before she turned and smashed his neck, while another rogue had scratched Marco’s muzzle, dangerously close to one eye. Although Elena and Marco killed the two opponents soon after, their respective mates had emerged from the momentary stupefaction they had fallen into...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The unmistakable roar would have made everyone pale and anyone else would have run away.
It was jarring, bloodcurdling, and cruel, but to Elena it meant protection and relief. It was Mirko.
In a heartbeat, the remaining rogues squealed and ran away before Crucifero’s fangs could catch them. The Beta let them go, as he rushed to his mate, sniffing him and controlling Marco who, in return, was licking Crucifero’s muzzle with a little whimper.
Without thinking, Elena shifted back. Dark oceanic eyes flickered to hers, then locked on the lifeless body of Cornelia’s wolf then to the barely alive wolf of Frerea and, at the end, they returned to focus on Elena.
The girl saw flashes of anger and surprise crossing those mesmerising eyes. His stare sent shivers down her spine, making the hairs on the back of her neck stand.
Fury and lust were pouring out of him in waves... an explosive combination. Elena quickly realized when his eyes travelled down her body. Slowly. Taking his time, before refocusing on her face.
A small part of her whispered that it was the first time he had seen her completely naked, but she didn’t cover himself. Too scared even to move an inch under that gaze...
He could kill her with a flick of his wrist.
Being the chicken she was, Elena hadn’t dared to look below his waist, but his bare chest and the strength radiating from him were enough to rev up her.
“Why exactly are you here, mate?” Crimson liquid dribbled down his chin as he spoke, his teeth stained red.
“I-I came to help y-you...” The words trembled out of her mouth. Her chest tightened and tick blood pounded in her veins as she heard her racing heartbeat.
All covered in blood and dirt, Mirko looked beyond wild and beyond pissed. She felt both mesmerised and scared.
“You never listen, do you?” His chest vibrated with another growl...or was it a laugh?
“No, you don’t.” He answered instead of her. His words were like poisonous velvet.
“You had to disobey me anyway, after you already got hurt you and after I clearly told you to wait for me, in the pack.”
His stance changed, his posture become different. Pure predatorial.
“Little stubborn minx had to come all the way here....unmarked.” His jaw twitched at that. Fire replaced his eye orbits.
She took a step back and gnawed the inside of her cheeks to stop herself from...screaming? Calling him?
“But I’m planning to fix that. Right now.”
At his words, a chill of fear and lust ran through her veins as the image of his body attached to hers flashed through her mind. Unconsciously she rubbed her legs together and her breathing quickened.
Mirko groaned and closed his eyes, then raised his nose and inhaled deeply. When he opened them again, they were completely black, and focused exclusively on his mate.
“Come here, Elena.” He ordered with a husky, distorted voice. But Elena shook her head.
“No” She scowled at his demanding tone. His eyes urged her to obey and let him dominate her... instead Elena found herself curling her fingers into a fist, raising her chin defiantly.
She was not his servant or a random pack member.
“No?”
“No. I don’t want to” She stated boldly, taking a step back and managing not to avert her eyes under the intensity of his.
“Why do you always have to provoke me?” He laughed humourlessly as his nostrils flared. His eyes hadn’t blinked for a while. He looked like a wild animal about to pounce on her at any moment.
“Mhm? Why?”
Suddenly, the need to run invaded Elena... that urge to run away from your mate, initiating the chase. It was primal, it came from the depths of her soul.
She wasn’t sure how or why it happened....But she shifted back into her wolf. Silver fur shone in the light kissing the majestic she-wolf.
Craken and Mirko melted a little at the sight of the beauty in front of them. Never they had seen a wolf so perfect, so beautiful. Almost making them forget her disobedience... and the sweet scent of her arousal.
Almost.
Last thing she saw before disappearing in the forest was Mirko crouching down, his eyes never leaving her, his muzzle elongating and black fur devouring the human skin.
The last animal sound she heard was a deep howl, confirming Mirko had fully shifted and Craken was now ready to pounce.... and hunt...
The last thing Craken & Mirko saw was her tail wagging, as to tease them even further. As to tell them: ′Come and get me, mate’
..................................
And, the last human sound she had heard before fully disappearing was the laugh of her mighty mate...followed by three, simple words:
“Run, mate. Run.”
