Chapter 14

As James drove away, Wynne coord, “Shh, Ana, it’s okay.”

Ana didn’t respond, but instead, just let the sob rack through her body until she was too exhausted to cry anymore. After a few more minutes, she calmed down, shook her head, and wiped her eyes.

“That was really fucking close,” Ana whimpered.

“No shit, Anna. What were you thinking?” Wynne sighed.

“Uh, I wasn’t. I was horny and then I was annoyed and angry. Damien started spouting off about what a horrible person I was because I danced with a guy.”

Wynne groaned. “He did what? You have to be kidding me.”

“He just pissed me off. I can count on one finger the number of guys I have been with. I have no idea how many conquests he had. For all I know, he has slept with half of his employees!”

James chuckled loudly and even Wynne let out a little giggle.

“Alright, Anna, let’s just get you home. Hopefully, this will all blow over by tomorrow.”

Ana groaned, just thinking that she would have to face him in the office again tomorrow. At least, at the time, she would be prepared for it… and she would be sober.

“Were you really going to do the nasty with that guy in the alley?” Wynne whispered.

“Absolutely not. I just wanted to be with a guy without thinking about the consequence of sleeping with him. But you should thank your Boss for his service.” She rolled her eyes. “Where the hell were you? 1 thought you would have my back. I told you I was stupid when I was drunk.”

Wynne and James were both laughing silently. “I thought you were joking. Next time, I will take you seriously.”

“There will be no next time,” Ana grumbled. The rest of the car ride was quiet. She dozed off a few times before they finally pulled up to her new apartment. She was mostly sober when she walked in but the fumes of alcohol that had seeped into her pores just didn’t allow her to go further than the sofa. She crashed into it and fell into a deep sleep right there.

The next morning, her father Alan made no attempt to be quiet as he slammed cabinets and banged plates. Ana was pretty sure that he did it on purpose because her dad needed to open and close the cabinet eight times in a span of five minutes. It wasn’t really funny, but Alan Senior had a big, innocent grin on his face when Ana sat up on the sofa.

“Wow, Dad. That was a lot of noise for a cup of coffee and some toast,” she grunted.

“Oh, I’m sorry, Ana, did I wake you?” She could see her father’s eyebrow twitch as he suppressed his laughter.

“Not funny, Dad. I am going to take a shower.” Before her son woke up and asked questions. The hot steaming water helped to massage away most of the fog from the hangover, but her gut still ached from the encounter with Damien the night before.

Damien didn’t catch on, but keeping Alan Jr a secret was only going to get harder the longer Damien was in town.

The next morning, Damien finished the executive meeting and then pulled Wynne to the side. Wynne looked stoic for a minute and he took the opportunity to ask Wynne.

“Dook. I know you are upset with me right now, but I am your boss and I need to know what is going on. I demand respect from my employees.”

Wynne sighed. “If had treated your employees the way you should have, you wouldn’t be in this situation. Do you need me

to remind you what you did to Anastasia?”

“I know what happened. I was there!” Damien snapped.

14261%

“You do? So, did she look happy the next morning? Did she thank you or ask you for another date afterward? How did she look, Mr. Wright?” she stopped. “She was a virgin. I wonder if she was sore or if she regretted it. Just what were her feelings, Boss?” Wynne asked. Damien was stunned, more stunned because he couldn’t answer those questions.

“That’s what I thought.” Wynne had always been able to read his mind. “I know that you never held her or made sure she was okay. She wasn’t a tissue that you could use and throw away. She was Anatasia! And you just threw her out of the house and made her the center of gossip in the company. She couldn’t stay here because she was seen as a gold digger.” Wynne took a shuddering breath. “You made her feel so bad that she refused to speak to me for all these years. And I am sorry if that displeases you… I just feel like a man of your stature should be held responsible for your actions.”

Damien was left to silence. Damien wanted to answer those questions and reprimand Wynne but he couldn’t. She was right. He had no idea and he was ashamed of that. Yes, he had marked Ana. Everyone remembered their first, especially when there was a controversy about it. Damien would always be the guy who had made her first time miserable.

Damien swore that he would fix the situation.

He was beyond ready for the meeting with Anastasia that afternoon. When they were done with the meeting, Ana walked out without looking at him. He followed behind her and asked her to pause. Her body tensed and she greeted him again stiffly. Her eyes darted all over the place and she looked nervous. Damien remembered her expression in the alleyway and wondered if Ana was really scared of him.

He wanted to put her at ease, so he complimented her on how well the meeting went. She looked nonchalant and Damien decided to bring her back. “I am sorry about last night. I didn’t mean to… interrupt,” he admitted painfully. Damien wasn’t really sorry. In fact, he was happy about whatever had been stopped from happening.

Damien was sorry about their fight, though. He was sorry that he upset her and that he had ruined her.

“I just didn’t realize that you were okay. I didn’t want the guy taking advantage of you in your state of mind.”
