Chapter 38
The next day, Ana finally got the motivation to drop off some important documents at Damien’s office. It just so happened that Alan hopped out of the car right after her and followed her in.
She paused briefly when she saw there was no secretary to usher her in. She didn’t need to use the key because the door was already unlocked. Which was weird. When she opened the office door, she froze solid.
Ana’s mouth dropped open. Damien was sitting on his chair and a woman was extremely close to him, kissing him.
“Damien!” she hissed. She turned just as Alan was entering the office and covered his eyes.
Damien was startled and nearly hit the ceiling. He pushed the woman away, making her fall on her ass. Damien’s eyes darted to hers and then quickly to where her hands were.
“Oh.” he yelped and quickly shot up.
It was then Ana glanced at the girl who looked amused and somewhat smug. It was an old colleague of hers.
“Ana, I…”
Anastasia couldn’t even look at him. She was fuming. Anger radiated throughout her body and her hands shook as she continued to hide Alan from the scene in front of them. Luckily Alan was behind her, but she honestly didn’t know how much Alan had seen.
She whipped around, taking Alan with her, and stormed out of the door. She couldn’t believe what she had walked into. Granted it wasn’t her office, but the least Damien could have done was locked the door. Didn’t people have bedrooms for
that?
Damien had been right, she really needed to start paying attention to what was going on around her. If there was no one outside and the door was locked, she should have knocked before she entered.
She could hear Damien’s footsteps behind them as she tried to hurry back to the elevator.
“Ana wait!” Damien pleaded, reaching out and grabbing her shoulder firmly so that she stopped. Ana turned around, letting go of Alan in the process.
“I don’t want to hear it. We can talk about this later when there are no little ears to listen in,” she spat.
Beneath all the shock, there was a hint of jealousy. She knew it was unreasonable. She had no right to be jealous. It didn’t matter that there were bitter emotions between there, there still was something about Damien that she couldn’t resist.
He was infuriating, cocky and complicated. It drove her crazy in both good and bad ways. Out of the corner of her eye, Ana saw the female colleague in the doorway, leaning against the frame, reapplying her lipgloss and doing nothing to hide her grin.
“Fucking cow,” Ana growled and turned to leave. Alan was ahead of her, jumping and pressing the elevator button. Damien sighed behind her and then she heard his retreating footsteps right before he snapped.
“Please leave
“What?” the woman yelped.
“I said, leave. You shouldn’t have come to my room without permission.”
Ana wasn’t looking at them but she was certainly eavesdropping.
“You will never be allowed into my office again. Get the thought of seducing me out of your head now. Lastly, I just got seen by my three–year–old son and his mother in a situation that looks bad. What part of this don’t you understand?”
Ana didn’t stay around to hear anymore. She walked into the elevator and down. She placed the important documents at the
reception and went to her car. She couldn’t get out fast enough.
“Mommy?” Alan asked. Ana knew what was coming and she didn’t know how to respond.
“Yes, baby?”
“Can I get a pony?”
Ana exhaled in relief. She pursed her lip and smiled tightly. “You should ask your grandma if she will allow it, okay?”
She knew not to put the limelight on her parents but right then Ana needed to ensure Alan’s mind didn’t process what he might have seen. While he hadn’t seen anything graphic, Ana knew well what such a scene could do to a child’s view of the world. She didn’t want her child to see Damien being with someone else.
When she walked into Damien’s house that night, he led her inside. The moment the door snapped shut, Ana couldn’t hold it in any longer.
“Jesus, Damien! What made you think that was a good idea?” she asked, completely frustrated. “What would you have done, if it had been someone else that walked in instead of us? Was your office the best place to hook up with a girl?”
“How would I know that you would walk in without knocking first?”
“The door was unlocked and your secretary was not outside. I had to drop an important document off to you.”
“I didn’t know that. I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t want that woman there. She threw herself at me and you walked in before I could push her away. What more do you want?”
“I want you to start thinking about what you are doing before you are caught in the act.”
“I am not accountable to you, Anastasia. You are not my mother or my wife. Hell, you are not even my girlfriend.”
Ana took a deep breath to remain composed. She ground her teeth together before she spoke. “You are right. I am none of those things. But I am the mother of your child. We are getting ready to co–parent. Which means you are going to have at child always around you. If you can’t think about the consequences of your actions, how am I supposed to feel comfortable with letting Alan stay with you unsupervised?” she said.
“Are you threatening me?” he growled. Ana flinched at his tone but didn’t back down.
“No, I am not threatening you, Damien. I am warning you. I don’t give a shit what you do, but I need to know that you are responsible and won’t let Alan see something that he shouldn’t I am not willing to risk it,” she said firmly.
“You are such a hypocrite. You can go out on your business trip and have fun with your ‘friend‘ but I can’t even be pursued by a woman? She showed up in my
office on the pretext of reporting to me. I was just working and she came onto me. I had no idea you would walk through the door right before I pushed her away.”
Ana’s face must have reflected her shock because Damien knew she had spent time with Marcus. She was even more shocked that he called her out without hesitation.
“Yeah, I know you left Alan with our parents. Why the hell else would you go on a trip without Alan if Marcus is such an important part of his life?”
