Chapter 48
Ana was nervous. She finally understood why Damien had asked her and Alan to stay over. Wynne had somehow convinced everyone to book hotel rooms and have a night of dancing and drinking to celebrate Ana’s birthday. A birthday she hadn’t remembered since she gave birth.
Damien’s parents spent time with Alan and would take care of him at night. Ana’s parents were going over to have dinner together as
well.
Marcus was going to meet them at the hotel. That, right there, was the source of Ana’s anxiety. Marcus had driven down to surprise Ana and would meet Damien and Wynne for the first time.
Marcus was going to meet Damien, the father of her child for the first time. And that would be painful.
Damien was curious, Wynne had gathered that much. Damien wanted to meet the guy trying to ‘steal his son. Ana freaked out at that. That was not what Marcus was trying to do. But Damien was jealous.
He was jealous Marcus had been there since the beginning. Jealous that Marcus had seen Alan learn to crawl, walk, and say his first word. It shocked Ana. Yes, Damien and Alan were close, but she never thought Damien would be upset over missing out on those early experiences.
It made her feel bad to have stolen the time from him. No amount of pictures or videos from the time could make up for it.
She loved watching Alan and Damien together. When they were playing around, Damien would often grab her playfully. His touch was like fire. His mouth would brush against Ana’s shoulder or neck and she would shiver. She couldn’t help how her body reacted around him. All she could do was stop herself from mounting him subconsciously.
Ana rode with Wynne and James to get some time away from Damien. Moreover, he was in a video conference, so his driver was dropping him off at the hotel. They both needed a break if they were going to spend most of the night together. And it was impossible for Damien to behave himself when it came to Marcus. And Marcus, she didn’t know what to expect from him.
Once they checked in, they headed into their separate rooms. She knew for a fact that Marcus would come to the party directly.
When she was dressed and in the lobby, she met a familiar face. Ana smiled at Marcus. He was dressed in semi–formals and didn’t look like he had hopped out of a plane. When he reached her, he pulled her into a tight hug.
“Hello, baby girl,” he greeted. Ana was startled by how fiercely he held her. When she didn’t respond, Marcus pulled back and looked her directly in the eye.
Ana saw that he knew it then. He knew what was coming.
They heard a throat clear loudly behind them and Ana turned to see the trio looking at them expectantly.
“Anastasia, I am starting to think you only become friends with attractive people,” Marcus joked.
Ana rolled her eyes.
“No wonder you picked me.”
She laughed and shoved his shoulder. “Shut up.” She turned to the others to make introductions. “This is Marcus Smith. Marcus, this is Wynne, her husband James, and this is… uh… Damien.”
James took Marcus‘ hand and shook it.
“So, you took care of Ana and Alan,” James commented subtly.
Marcus looked over at Ana and smiled. “I try my best,” he said.
Out of the corner of her eyes, Ana saw Damien grimace and look away. She stiffened and squeezed her eyes shut, guilt filling her.
“Ana can take care of herself. She is stubborn and doesn’t know how to quit,” Marcus chuckled, oblivious that Ana was uncomfortable.
“Don’t we know it,” Wynne snorted, throwing Damien a look.
Marcus took Wynne’s hand and shook it lightly as well. When it came to Damien, Ana bit her fingernails in distress. But they simply shook hands and… nothing. Damien nodded his head in greeting before turning away.
“Let’s move. We have reservations,” Damien announced.

Marcus looked at Ana and shrugged as they followed inside the restaurant. It was an upscale bar that served drinks and appetizers. They had endless starters and drinks. Ana stuck to the wine while Marcus and James went for the beer. Damien kept a single glass of whiskey.
Marcus was sitting too close to her as he spoke to James. Anna wasn’t listening as she tried to shift away without being too obvious. She tried to pay attention to Wynne but it was all talk about work. During all of this, Damien kept silent and glared at Marcus‘ hand which was too close to Ana’s neck.
‘Is he jealous?‘ Ana wondered.
They moved to a nightclub after having dinner. It was loud and crowded. The music thumped as people danced. Anastasia danced with Wynne while the guys got drinks. They garnered a whole lot of attention when they were finally joined by James and Marcus.
Ana noticed that Damien wasn’t with them and she looked around for him. She finally spotted him at the bar, chatting with a beautiful woman. A pang of jealousy made her look away and she focused on dancing. At first, she tried to distance herself from Marcus, but the alcohol had started to take effect. And she wanted Damien to notice. She wanted him to feel what she felt before.
Well into the night, she found herself standing off to the side. She searched for her friends but there were too many people and she was short. She felt warm arms wrap around her waist and she jumped.
At first, she thought it was a strange man, or maybe Marcus, who had been touchy–feely all night. But the voice that greeted her was definitely not Marcus.
“You look lovely tonight, Anastasia,” Damien purred as he started to sway with her. His hot breath fanned across her ear, making her shiver. “Will you dance with me?”
“Isn’t that what we are doing?” she asked, trying to stop her voice from trembling.
“No, we’re just swaying, not dancing.”
Ana looked around to see if anyone was looking. Like dancing with the father of her child was a sin. But she really wanted to dance with Damien. She finally found Marcus at the bar chatting up a girl.
She turned back to Damien to see his smirk. “Shall I take that as a yes?” he asked.
“What do you think?” she teased.

Chapter 49
Anastasia wrapped her arms around Damien’s neck and his hands gripped her hips firmly. The music didn’t allow them to dance chastely. The thumping beat insisted they move closer.
The sexual tension was incredible as they locked eyes, moving their bodies. Ana was replaceing it hard to break as she ground against him. Every time she tried to breathe, it got caught in her chest and hitched. She could feel his hardening length against her stomach and he didn’t try to hide it.
He didn’t force forward either. Instead, he continued to move, getting minimal friction. It was enough to keep them going.
“I don’t think your date is happy with me,” he whispered, his gaze shifting slightly over her shoulder.
“He’s not my date,” she ground out.
“Oh no. I don’t think he knows that.”
“Trust me, Damien. He knows. He is just pretending like he doesn’t.”
“Good,” Damien insisted. “He needs to realize that I am not going anywhere. I am Alan’s father. Not him.”
“You’re not being fair, Damien. He has been an uncle to Alan…
“Fantastic,” Damien growled. “But Alan is my son and he needs to remember that. He can’t have my family.”
Ana couldn’t fault him for being upset with how close Alan and Marcus had been. It should have been in that place, but Damien’s anger was misplaced.
His hand slipped to the small of her back and he pulled her closer. A moan slipped out of her lips. Her mouth was close to his neck and she felt the urge to bite down on it. She resisted and reminded herself of the last time she had allowed alcohol to cloud her judgment.
Dancing with Damien was one thing, but making out with him was another ball game altogether. She had to keep her body under control because her mind was about to give in to temptation.
“Coming,” Damien whispered.
“What?” Ana asked, but she didn’t have to wait for an answer.
“Get your hands off her, asshole,” Marcus snarled, grabbing Ana’s wrist and trying to tug her away.
“Mind your own business. We are talking,” Damien said in a dangerously calm voice. She didn’t let go of Ana, though.
“No, you’re trying to fuck her on the dance floor.” Marcus was pissed. He looked at Anastasia but his expression didn’t soften. “You’re done talking. She is mine. Now give her back.”
As a girl, Ana should have been happy to have two girls fighting over her, but instead, the tone of Marcus‘ voice angered her. He acted like she was his possession. She knew that was not how Marcus saw her, but she couldn’t help but feel like a shiny toy that he wasn’t done toying with before it was snatched from him.
“We were talking about our son. If you don’t mind…” Damien’s grip on her wrist tightened as he tried to take her to the bar. But Marcus was having none of that.
“I do mind. You have plenty of time to talk about Alan later. I need some time with my girlfriend,” Marcus snapped. Ana winced, stuck between the two men. They were starting to attract attention from the people around them.
Wynne reached for the arm Damien had around her waist and gently tapped on his fingers. He immediately loosened his grip. Damien looked down at her apologetically but his attention returned to Marcus. She could see anger flooding back into his body.
“Girlfriend? She is not your girlfriend. You are a friend who lives across the country and you see her once a few months. You don’t know your position in her life yet, it seems.”
“Fuck you,” Marcus spat. “You are one to talk. After what you did to her, I should have kicked your ass the moment she met you again.”
Damien grinned, but his eyes were cold. “Go ahead and try me.”
Ana sighed. The situation was getting out of control and the growing audience and bouncers were watching them carefully. “Enough,” she hissed. She pried Marcus’s fingers from her wrist and pulled away from Damien. “Go ahead and start the pissing contest. I am going back to my room.”
Chapter 49
Wynne was right behind her as James stayed back to make sure that fists won’t fly. Ana glanced at her watch and saw that it was
already two in the morning.
“Are you okay?” Wynne asked.
“I’m fine,” Ana said in a clipped tone
“Ana!” Marcus shouted as he exited the club. “Come on!”
“No, Marcus. I am done”
Marcus reached for her but Wynne stood between them, crossing her arms protectively over her chest. “She said she is done.”
Marcus looked at Wynne and then back at Anastasia “Ana, please, let me just take you back to the hotel. We can resolve this by
talking”
Ana clenched her jaw. After the act he pulled that night, he wanted her to talk to him calmly? Marcus knew she had figured out his feelings for her. He also knew she was going to put an end to it and he was desperately trying to hold on.
“Go back, Marcus. I need time by myself”
Marcus grumbled. “You get plenty of time by yourself. I need time with you, too. He gets you every day”
Ana raised a brow, knowing he was speaking of Damien. “This has nothing to do with Damien, Marcus,” she noted. “This has to do with you being pushy and obnoxious”
She saw James and Damien exit the club. They joined Wynne behind her. Wynne slipped her hands into Ana’s and twined their fingers
“Really, Ana? You’re choosing them over me now?” Marcus asked, motioning to Damien and the others.
“I am not choosing anyone over anyone else, Marcus,” she said quietly. “These people have been my friends and are now my family. You have to get used to that”
“And what am 17 Marcus asked, quietly
“You’re my best friend”
“I’m your boyfriend,” he corrected.
Ana shook her head. “I made it perfectly clear that we were nothing more than friends. You can’t just cook up fantasies in your head.
You knew it wouldn’t go anywhere.”
The alcohol had made her handle the situation poorly. She was going to lose her friend completely if she kept it up. At least for Alan
who loved Uncle Marcus…
“It’s just not fair Marcus insisted.
