I watch her retreating form as she races back to her home, and I worry for her once more. Witches can be dangerous creatures. And although she obviously feels secure enough to return to the witch without fear of being harmed, I am still concerned.

My thoughts return to the memory of her body pressed against mine. Ella is beautiful. I loved the way her half-lidded blue eyes searched mine as she touched my face. Closing my eyes, I imagine pressing my lips to hers.

Shaking my head, I push the errant thoughts aside. I should not be thinking of her like this. She is human. Besides that, she does not possess innate light magic. She could never balance the darkness inside me, and I would always be a danger to her.

Yet, even so, I cannot stop thinking of her. I stare up at the silver moon and the many stars that dot the night sky.

“Starlight,” I whisper as her image fills my mind.
