Captive Of The Alpha -
Chapter 28
Even Hades himself was impressed by his action. The growl in his throat was not a simple warning. No, it wasn’t the fact that he was touching her, there was something else that at the moment he didn’t know about and it bothered him to the point of gritting his teeth.
The chestnut wolf dropped his hands and rose cautiously, he didn’t like the alpha’s intense silver gaze that seemed to want to move at any moment and rip his throat in two.
He smiled slyly and turned his attention to the she-wolf once he knew he would not be attacked.
-My queen come, everyone will be very happy to see you,” he was about to take her arm but stopped in mid-air. Hades’ hand had rested on Nebraska’s h*p and was again warning her with his gaze to keep her distance.
The omega for her part felt the atmosphere tense, and the reason for that was her. She liked to keep a low profile and having two wolves arguing with her in the middle made her uncomfortable and in a bad way.
-Liam,” she used a serious, authoritative tone. If they weren’t going to behave like civilised wolves someone had to do it.
He nodded without complaint and began to walk away from them.
-Alpha, he is my former beta, you could not be so rude,” he said.
That a woman was defending another wolf in front of his person was something new in his life, but that wasn’t the point.
-There’s something about him I don’t like.
Nebraska sighed and was aware of the hand on her h*p holding her possessively.
-You could let go,” she said in a lower tone. Having him so close didn’t seem right now that she was going to visit her other family, after all she was still married and even if Rudoc had done the unimaginable to her, he was still her husband and they had laws she had to respect. Although few knew of her longing for the relationship that united them to be broken, because for her luck, she could still dissolve it.
-No,” the alpha answered in her ear. And he could have sworn he felt her growl at his refusal.
-That I took you out of the mansion without Caesar’s medical permission puts you under my responsibility, and besides, I want to touch you,” he said.
-You don’t have to stay close to me at all times, I appreciate that, but you know the laws, you think I didn’t notice your pack’s comments,” she kept a calm profile, but the release of sweat from her brow gave her away. That wolf laid his hands on her body whenever he had the chance and the contact was something she was still dealing with.
-That will be fixed soon enough,” his breath in her ear shuddered, “after all, you’re mine now.
Nebraska froze and turned to face him, releasing his hand from her h*p with a disguised slap, she didn’t want Liam or anyone else to see their supposed fight, it wouldn’t help her family.
-I don’t belong to anyone,” her voice deepened.
Hades stared at her for a moment and the muscles in his face tightened. She was standing up to him, no one had ever stood up to him before, least of all a she-wolf. He clenched his fist until it hurt, holding back his alpha male instinct to break her down right there and show her who’s boss.
-Omega.” His words also came out more serious.
Nebraska stood still. She had annoyed him, she could feel it in her scent. She swallowed and held her pose straight, though in the end she opted to turn and walk towards where her beta was headed.
She knew she couldn’t fight him, she kept repeating it over and over in her mind. That she had to keep her composure and for the sake of all those who fell on her shoulders stoop to accept his orders, but she would never, ever be anyone’s. It had not been Rudoc’s and it would not be his.
Hades sighed. For an omega she was harder to handle than any she-wolf. He didn’t like submissive women but meeting one with a character like Nebraska was a whole new experience, one he found very interesting in his routine. He was convinced that in the end he would be the one to win, and she would be totally his. That much he could be sure of.
Nebraska walked smoothly and to his luck more steadily. She could hear him at her back, close behind. He stopped beside Liam when the silhouette of a woman appeared blurred in his range of vision.
-My queen,” a sob came from the stranger, “It’s really you.
Nebraska recognized her instantly.
-Katrina? The she-wolf nodded and knelt down, kissing her palms.
Hades found that this seemed to be a habit among them as he recalled the repetitive pattern among several people who copied the woman.
Nebraska smiled slightly at the impressed members who asked questions about her health, how she was doing. Some could not believe she was alive. More than 50 years of being deceived by a cruel lie had taken its toll.
Some cubs would reach out and touch her with their fingertips to check she wasn’t a ghost, her people had made her short reign a cult of legend after her supposed death, they loved her, she had been so good to them and had achieved stability in a time of chaos, she didn’t want her effort to be hated in history.
Nebraska let out a snort. Surely they had gone overboard with more than one detail. The smell of exaltation and impression from the younger members of the pack filled the place.
-Your legs hurt,” one of the cubs asked when she sat up and rubbed her thighs after a few minutes.
-I’m fine,” he calculated where the boy should be and reached out and ruffled his hair.
The boy left, then ran to his mother, a very thin she-wolf who looked like she had been through more than one job.
-Mum, she’s very pretty,” his mother smiled and bowed to Nebraska.
Liam remarked in a moment that she had explained the situation to them and that was a relief. He still didn’t want to deal with it. That dark phase of his life was not a pleasant one. Hades found himself admiring his pack’s devotion to her. The gleam in their eyes was genuine and some of them couldn’t hide their enthusiasm. They didn’t blame her for disappearing for so many years and her husband leading them to ruin.
How much had their queen done for the welfare of all? How much had she sacrificed? That’s when Hades understood. He understood the meaning of her words.
-Where are most of the males? It struck him as odd that the majority of those present were the she-wolf, pup and the occasional older male.
-They are confined elsewhere. They have asked for control, they are not aware of their actions and I will not risk them mistreating the weaker ones any further.
Hades approached cautiously keeping it less imposing which didn’t work as most of the pups backed away. That was something he would have to work on, and soon, in the pack’s acceptance.
He watched as the omega lowered her head, rubbing her chin thoughtfully. When he pulled her back up the decision he saw did not bode well.
-Alpha, take me to where they are,” he said.
Hades only arched an eyebrow.
-Not in your worst dreams.
