Nebraska stared blankly from Layan to the wolf and back with an incredulous face.

-Are you messing with me,” the wolf raised an eyebrow at the high volume of her voice, “I was told she was missing.

Layan let out a snort and lifted his shoulders in disinterest.

-How do you think my reputation would look if the news that my sister went mad got out?

-You’re not being honest,” Nebraska sensed that something else was behind those words. Behind the armour he had built, this wolf harboured a truth he didn’t want to reveal. Still, he didn’t think he could help her at this point.

Wolves when they reached madness had only one option, to be annihilated by someone stronger, it was almost always the alpha who was given this task. The only ones who could either come back from madness or help others were the omegas, one as strong as she was.

The she-wolf growled again and began to advance towards them.

-I leave it in your hands,” she squeezed his shoulder and said in his ear, “I expect good results.

Nebraska swallowed dryly and turned her face toward the animal. She knew she had gone pale. One false step and she could die, a wolf’s restraint was not present with the madness and she would close her mouth and tear everything in front of her. She had experienced it first hand.

She advanced cautiously towards the she-wolf and concentrated, letting out a faint scent directed at the animal, but it did not stop. Hesitantly and alertly she knelt down and focused her attention more on the beast. He began to speak soothing words. He felt it slow down and stagger. It seemed to have an effect. Even if he had been able to bring the males of his pack back, they hadn’t been in the madness that long, unlike this Leila.

-Come,” he called to her, he would need to use the contact to get into her consciousness.

The she-wolf walked a few steps and suddenly raised her head. Nebraska didn’t have time to react. The animal had moved too fast and was now wrapping its teeth around the omega’s forearm.

Nebraska let out a g***n of pain as she felt the flesh break down to the bone and the aggressor jerking away tore the skin further. In the midst of the pain she raised her leg and managed to strike the animal’s abdomen and throw it into a corner. His attempt to calm her had not worked.

-Hell,” she heard Layan run up to her and stand in front of her.

The door burst open and an overly tall man with blond, military-cut hair appeared with a scowl on his face.

-Kei, get her out of here,” her alpha shouted as he growled at the animal, which was back on its feet and ready to attack, though its movements had slowed.

For a moment Nebraska thought she caught a glimpse of a change in the gleam that came out of its eyes before it was carried as if it weighed nothing and dragged away. This Kei took her to the room where she had first awakened and placing her on the bed, he stood over her and did nothing more. The omega pressed her lips together, holding back a cry of pain as she moved her torn arm and in her current state it would take her some time to recover. She turned her face sideways looking for something to stem the bleeding without much success, she didn’t know anything about the place and the further away the objects were, the fuzzier they became.

-Can you hand me some cloth,” he asked politely, “I have to stop the bleeding.

-Alpha Layan only ordered me to get you out of there.

He really did. I couldn’t believe it. Another guy like Siran. One was more than enough. It didn’t matter. She’d replace him herself. She dragged her hand across the sheet covering the bed until she found one folded in the corner, picked it up and realized it was heavy.

-Could you at least help me cut a piece of it off? If I go on like this I’ll die and I don’t think your alpha would like that,” if he had to play dirty, he would play dirty.

The wolf looked down and scrunched up his eyebrows and grabbed the cloth roughly, then placed a sizable chunk in his hand. Nebraska awkwardly wrapped it around her arm and squeezed, letting out a g***n of pain and staggering up in a sitting position, having to hold herself up. All the while the wolf just stared at her.

-Nebraska was starting to get annoyed, you couldn’t be so tactless to have someone hurt in front of you and barely help them.

-Kei, come out,” the door opened and Layan appeared with his shirt off and his trousers on wrong, it looked like he had half dressed on the way.

The wolf nodded and left the room as quickly as he received the order.

-That’s my beta, she doesn’t talk much to strangers.

-Yeah, I noticed that,” Nebraska said wryly, then clicked her tongue as her arm throbbed again, “Damn me and the wounds, they haunt me.

Layan walked over to her and grabbed her elbow, lifting the stained cloth wrapped limb. Without listening to the she-wolf’s protests he pulled it away and stared at the bitten and bleeding skin.

-Let go Layan, I don’t feel well,” the lack of b***d was already getting to her.

The wolf ignored her and with his free hand pushed her until she fell onto the bed with barely any strength.

-What are you doing?” the structured and defined body leaned over her.

Layan tore the cloth where the wound was with his teeth.

-Shut up, I’ll give you a service that’s a privilege, but if you move, it’ll hurt more.

-What do you mean,” she tensed, remembering what wolves did when there was a helpless woman and they wore little clothing.

But she couldn’t continue as she felt Layan’s tongue on her bruised skin and heard herself cry out in both surprise and pain. The wolf climbed on top of her without reloading his weight and continued the tour of each wound. Nebraska tried to hold still but the lashes of pain multiplied with each movement of the alpha.

-She tried to call out for him to stop, but he ignored her.

As omegas themselves had their surprises, he too harboured more than one secret, one of them being the ability to quickly heal wounds from his saliva. Although this was always a tortuous process for the patient and one that could not be interrupted if he wanted to be fully healed. His chest tightened when he heard her sobbing. He knew it must be hurting like hell but he hoped she would endure, he couldn’t leave her like this, especially now, he needed her.

When the seventh minute was up Nebraska collapsed on the bed, her breath barely escaping her lungs and her face was wet with tears that had long since stopped flowing. Layan sat up and watched her for a few minutes, running his hand over her forehead and brushing away the hair that had stuck to it. He was satisfied with his work. The new skin was around her arm and in a few hours the scars would be gone.

He sat down beside her and patted her thigh.

-I’ll let you rest for today, tomorrow we’ll see my sister again,” he got up but Nebraska’s voice stopped him.

-You hid your sister so she wouldn’t be killed,” she sounded tired, yet her statement didn’t lose its validity, “Even if it was against the law, you weren’t innocent either.

-I’m an important member of the Council, nothing can tarnish my image, my sister went into madness when her husband betrayed her and tried to kill her. I could only lock her up and hide her,” he grabbed the edge of the door before closing it, “Can you imagine what it feels like to have to murder your own flesh and b***d?
