Nebraska advanced down the corridor. She was grateful for her good memory, something she had developed, even more so for her lack of sight, so replaceing where she was going was a matter of time. At her back she heard Layan’s footsteps and soon after Hades who had apparently dressed as the sound of cloth on her skin was in effect.

She was still surprised at herself for being able to deal with two alphas, and not just any two alphas, two who were so many years older than her that she dared not remember them. When she had been with Rudoc she had been able to control the situation to a point, but the peak of the peak had been being locked up for so long. So many years in captivity had changed her so much that she was frightened herself. Now she no longer had the fear and indecision she hid behind her serious face. Now she had a family to look after and for whom she would not hesitate to put her hands in the fire.

She stopped in front of the huge door and took a deep breath. She hoped she wasn’t wrong. She hoped Layan was by her side.

-I don’t know what’s on your mind, but I hope I have good news,” he said.

-Open it, trust me, I never go back on my word, besides I have someone waiting for me,” he pointed his head over his shoulder at the wolf who looked paler this time but stood his ground.

Layan opened the door and Hades frowned at the smell coming from inside. He approached Nebraska and grabbed her arm and pulled her to him, until her back touched his chest.

-You’re not going in there, it’s dangerous,” his arm wrapped around her small waist protectively.

Layan said nothing, just waited. It seemed the only one who could dominate the other alpha was in his own hands, so he would wait for her to work her magic.

Nebraska stroked the arm that imprisoned her from elbow to wrist gently, running every vein and tendon that was marked by the tension all the way down to her fingers.

-Hades, I’ll be fine, I’ve been in there and nothing happened to me,” she lied blatantly.

-What’s in there is lethal, I won’t let you subject yourself to that danger.

Nebraska lifted her head back to rest it on his chest and stretched her palm up to his cheek. The wolf looked at her with narrowed eyes full of concern. Even if he didn’t say it, he was afraid something might happen to her.

-You chose me to be your queen for a reason, if I don’t do this, if I don’t keep my word, how will I ever be able to look you in the face?

-You don’t have to prove anything to me, you are strong enough for me and my pack,” she said.

She smiled, caressing his lower l*p with her finger, something she found she liked, even though it was parched from the days of the rut, it still felt pleasant under her touch.

-Not enough.

The arm that held her trembled and closing his eyes Hades released her, surrendering. It had dawned on him, long ago that even though he was the alpha, he was losing to her, and his rutting had been the trigger for his realisation, his emotions running high. When they returned he would make it his business to show her how much he cared.

Nebraska broke away from him and nodded to Layan, who had admired the scene with some envy, to let her pass.

-You guys stay out here,” the wolves tensed up and opened their mouths to complain, “If you’re out there he might get upset and I need to concentrate, besides,” she pointed her finger at her partner, “I don’t think Leila’s going to come in with him watching my every move.

And having finished saying that, he went inside. He only heard them talking to each other before the door closed.

-Leila, did he say Leila? Didn’t she…

-It’s a long story,” Layan answered tiredly.

Nebraska walked around the room this time in total darkness. It wasn’t that she needed light, it was better this way, the various mists just got in the way. She sharpened her hearing until she heard it. The she-wolf sitting up after she had heard it. This time she didn’t seem as aggressive as before, she was calmer, still, the omega sensed the madness inside her.

She took a few steps forward. She let out two of her claws and wounded her arm deeply making sure the b***d gushed out in large quantities. She didn’t move when she saw the beast rush towards her, push her to the ground and bury its fangs in her wounded arm. That was what it wanted.

Nebraska swallowed a g***n of pain and just sat there on the floor as her b***d was consumed. The door burst open letting in the slimes who had been alarmed at the thunderous sound and bristled at the sight.

-Do not approach,” she commanded without turning her head. Her attention was only on her attacker and how he was slowly diminishing in strength as well as suction.

-Nebraska,” Hades called out to her, ready to turn and go after her, but she shook her head.

-Almost there, don’t interfere,” her voice sounded pleased and she smiled as the teeth released her arm and the animal’s head fell limp in her lap.

Nebraska let out a loud sigh and with her healthy hand she stroked the she-wolf’s head, speaking softly, using her skill more easily. Gradually the furry body lost all traces of fur, her limbs grew longer and her face retracted, revealing the features of a young, slender girl. She had done it, she had brought Leila back and her b***d had been the conduit for it. Something new she was discovering about herself.

Layan ran to her side and lifted the girl off her and cradled her in his arms.

-Leila, Leila,” he called out to her without response, but after checking her pulse he took a calming breath and hugged her. Unable to contain it, two tears crossed his face, “Thank you,” his voice came out shaky without losing the hint of joy, “Thank you.

Nebraska smiled imagining the image as two hands grabbed her waist and pressed her against a solid body. Hades didn’t speak but his scent gave Nebraska a hint that he was equal parts worried, annoyed and relieved. He pulled away and removed the shirt he wore to wrap it around his hand and hugged her again, burying his face in her neck.

Her whole body trembled slightly. She raised her arms and ran them along his back and had to stifle a m**n. Despite the situation her body reacted to the reciprocal touch intensifying her emotions. It felt delicious to be surrounded by that solid body, which despite the coldness of his skin, provided warmth. She didn’t care that someone else was there, she caressed every muscle from the nape of his neck to the narrow waistband where she couldn’t go any further down the edge of his trousers.

She smelled the skin of his chest where his face was buried and suddenly stopped. Hades’ heartbeat had grown fainter and his body was no longer moving, which snapped her out of her haze.

-Hades,” she called out to him without getting an answer, “Hades,” she called out louder, even alarming Layan.

But the alpha didn’t answer. His body shifted from Nebraska’s arms until he fell to the ground, unconscious.
