Lydia continued to reassure her parents, "I'm really fine. Quincy showed up just in time and saved me. Plus, I had pepper spray in my bag, and it worked like a charm. One spray and he was down."

Eugene was still unconscious.

"How's Quincy doing now?" Mr. Fay asked, wanting to go in and see him.

Lydia led them into the hospital room where Quincy was having his wounds treated. When he saw them enter, he quickly stood to greet them.

"Sit down and let them finish tending to your injuries," Mr. Fay said, feeling a mix of emotions.

He had never been pleased with Quincy as a son-in-law. Especially during the divorce proceedings, he had wished Quincy would disappear from their lives for good. But after today, seeing how Quincy had risked himself to save Lydia, Mr. Fay found himself warming up to him.

Mrs. Fay felt the same way. She approached Quincy, examining his wounds closely, then told the doctor, "Use the best treatment to avoid any scarring." The doctor nodded.

She wanted to say a few words to Quincy but wasn't sure how to start. They had never spoken much directly. In the end, it was Lydia who broke the awkward silence. "Mom, Dad, you should head home. I'll stay with him while they finish up, and then we might need to stop by the police station."

"Alright, you stay with him, then," Mr. Fay replied, turning to leave.

Lydia saw them to the door. Before they left, Mr. Fay spoke to her privately. "If you're thinking of being with him again, we won't stand in your way."

"We'll talk about it later. I haven't made up my mind yet," Lydia replied. "Dad, what's with you today? You were so adamant about us getting divorced before."

Mr. Fay sighed. "Well, he's a

good-looking guy, so your kids

would likely be adorable. And he was willing to stand up for you. Plus, hear his mother's quite sick now, so it's unlikely she'd give you any trouble in the future."

Lydia paused, surprised. She hadn't told anyone about Mrs. Perez's illness. Then again, her parents had probably uncovered details about Quincy's family while looking into Eugene. en Narugi

"I'll think it over. See you tonight." Lydia waved them off before returning to the room.

By then, Quincy's wound had been taken care of. Although the pain was manageable, he put on an exaggerated expression of discomfort in front of her. "Should I ask the doctor for a painkiller?" Lydia teased, starting to head out, but Quincy quickly pulled her back.

"As long as you're here, I'm fine," he said, savoring every moment with her.

"So, you were faking it," Lydia said with a smirk. "Aren't you worried I'll get mad?"

Quincy thought for a moment. "If you get mad, you can hit me or yell at me. Just don't ignore me."

"You're pretty demanding, you know," Lydia replied, but she couldn't muster any anger. If anything, she felt more protective of him than ever.

With just the two of them in the

room, it was impossible to stay silent. They began with light

conversation, but soon enough, they were chatting openly, sharing things they had been holding back for ages.

They talked until they got word that Eugene had regained consciousness and was taken to the police station.

Lydia stood up. "Looks like it's our turn to head to the station."
