"But if he's sick, he should seek treatment. Medical technology is so advanced now, and they have more than enough money. Why would he choose to go this route?" Nina thought to herself. "Sweetheart, let's go in and ask Grandpa ourselves," Nina said, holding back her response as she didn't know the full story. Filled with questions, she opened the door and led the kids inside. Pharaoh was looking at his phone, not glancing up as he assumed it was the nurse. With a touch of irritation, he spoke, "I made myself very clear earlier. This is a decision I should be able to make on my own. Do you still need to..."

When he finally looked up and saw Nina's face, the rest of his words got stuck in his throat. His expression softened, showing genuine delight. "Nina, what brings you here today? Didn't we agree you'd come tomorrow so Orion wouldn't miss school?" "They got out early today, so we stopped by on our way home," Nina replied, walking toward his bedside.

Pharaoh's smile faltered as he remembered the report sitting right there on his bedside table, the one with his late-stage liver cancer diagnosis. If Nina saw it, there would be no more hiding the truth.

Quickly, he folded the report and tucked it under his pillow. The speed of his action and the flash of anxiety on his face told Nina all she needed to know. Whatever was on that paper was clearly the secret he had been keeping. The report must be related to his health.

"Grandpa!" Orion bounced over, pulling a sticker from his backpack and placing it beside Pharaoh. "I got a sticker today! I have one, Mom has one, and now you have one too."

"Such a beautiful sticker," Pharaoh

said, pasting the sticker onto his shirt. At his age, he had seen all kinds of stickers, but this simple, little sticker held a special place in his heart. It wasn't just a token from his grandson. It represented Orion's good behavior at school, a reward

from his teacher.

He took out a small charm pendant and hung it around Orion's neck. "Well done! This is Grandpa's gift for you."

Then he handed Nina a tiny keepsake pendant. "This is for Gemma. She's still too young to wear it, so I'm trusting you to keep it safe until she's ready."

"Thank you, Grandpa!" Orion chirped, his voice bright and clear.

Nina sat Gemma in a nearby chair, asking Orion to help watch her while she pulled a seat next to Pharaoh. She asked softly, "How have you been feeling lately?"

"I'm feeling great. I have a hearty appetite and sleep soundly every night," Pharaoh continued, keeping up the charade.

He knew how busy Nina was,

juggling the care of two kids. Although Nash wasn't the kind of

man to leave her on her own and helped with the kids whenever he

could, he also had his hands full with

work.

Pharaoh, as a father who had not always been there, felt ashamed of not being able to do more for her. The last thing he wanted was to burden Nina any further.

"You don't need to worry about me

I'm taking it easy these days, just enjoying my tea, playing a bit of chess, tending to some plants. Life's treating me just fine."
