CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery -
Chapter 1419
"Nina, do you remember that little girl?" Nash asked her.
Nina nodded. Of course, she remembered. It was because of that child's actions that, in a moment of carelessness, they had nearly lost Gemma. If she could go back, she would not have let her guard down just because of the girl's age.
"I had someone look into her background," Nash continued. "Her family is struggling. She had two older sisters, two older brothers, and two younger brothers. Her father passed away, so her mother has been doing everything she can to keep them afloat, but their income barely covers basic needs. They're getting regular financial help from someone."
At this, Nina immediately understood. Most likely, the so-called 'benefactor' funding this family was a member of that organization. The support was just a cover for manipulation.
Nash went on, "She's not the only one. There are several children just like her, receiving support but still living locally. None of them have been sent abroad."
"They're keeping these kids as backups," Nina said, frowning deeply. "They send them just enough money to survive, but when the organization needs them, they pull them out and send them abroad to do the dirty work."
For these kids, that organization was indeed vile, forcing them into things they didn't want to do and using their families as leverage.
Yet, without the organization's support, given their financial situation, they might not have even survived this long. They could have starved to death long ago.
"We're on the same page," Nash said, outlining his plan. "I suspect this organization has its sights on more than just me. I'm thinking of going abroad to confront them directly, while you stay here to look after Gemma and Orion until I return."
"No," Nina rejected the idea without hesitation. She looked him in the eye, her expression resolute. "We're in this together. Did you forget the vows we made on our wedding day? Whatever comes, we face it side by side. I can't let you go alone to deal with this."
"Nina, I'm worried you'll be in
danger," Nash said, still unwilling. "That country is lawless. Crime is rampant and even if you report a murder, the police might ignore it. With this organization on top of it all, I can't bear the thought of putting you in harm's way.
"Please, just this once, stay with the kids," Nash pressed gently. "It's different now. We have a son and daughter. If we both leave, who's going to look after them? Would you really feel comfortable leaving them with Mrs. Watson?"
Mrs. Watson had been with them for years, and she was reliable and great with the kids. But people could surprise you. Trusting her for daily help was one thing, but leaving the kids entirely in her care for days was another. And with how far he would be, if anything went wrong he wouldn't make it back in time.
"Quincy and Lydia are still on their honeymoon with no sign of when they'll be back, so I'm afraid you're right. It really does need to be you," Nash added.
"No, I've got someone else in mind,"
Nina said, shaking her head. "Today,
I took the kids to visit my father at the hospital. Before we go, we'll ask him to watch over them. He's been wanting to spend more time with them, and this way, we'll know they're in good hands."
