"Jack, what were you just talking about with my sister?" Winnie asked, her eyes bright with curiosity after greeting guests. It was her sister's first time meeting her boyfriend, and she felt a bit anxious. What if Jamie didn't like him? Ben shook his head. "Just some small talk. I have a question for you though. How would you describe your sister?"

"My sister is the best in the world," Winnie said with a smile. "She's incredibly kind to me, and all her friends think so highly of her too. There's just one thing..." Winnie's face fell as she sighed.

Ben prodded gently, "Mind telling me?"

"Well, it's not really a secret since we're family now." Winnie glanced around, then continued, "She had a boyfriend she really loved, but they broke up, and it really hurt her. She was down for so long, and I don't think she's fully moved on even now." Winnie's expression darkened at the thought.

Jamie had never shared the details, but it was clear her sister was deeply affected. Winnie could only assume that the man had hurt her terribly. Otherwise, they had probably be married by now, maybe even on their second child.

Ben listened intently but lost interest when it became clear Winnie didn't know much about the breakup.

"Oh, by the way," Winnie added, "my sister's landlord suddenly took her apartment back, and she's in a tough spot. I thought she could stay with us. It'd be much easier, especially since I'm pregnant. She could help me out, and we'd be together."

Winnie worried he might hesitate, but to her surprise, Ben agreed immediately. "Of course. She's your sister, which makes her family. She should move in with us."

"You're so good to me, Ben." Winnie's gaze softened as she looked at him lovingly.

Seeing this, Jamie felt a sharp pang in her chest. She had barely managed to steady herself and enter the reception hall, only to witness her sister's adoring gaze toward Ben, Winnie clearly loved him deeply. But all this was a cruel game, a trap Ben had carefully laid out to torment both sisters.

"Jamie!" Winnie spotted her and happily looped her arm through her sister's "I just talked to him, and he's all for you moving in with us. We'll get to live together!"

Jamie forced a small smile, but inside, she felt numb. She wanted to smile for her sister, but it was impossible right now.

"I saved you a seat; come on, let's head over," Winnie said, leading her sister forward.

Ben stood nearby, and as Jamie brushed past him, their eyes met briefly. Feeling overwhelmed, Jamie quickly lowered her gaze, unsure how to face him after everything.

As the sisters moved on, Ben turned

his attention back to the guests. The

engagement party was a small affair, mostly Winnie's friends and family Only a few of Ben's own acquaintances were present

including his cousin, Jake.

"Hey, did you tell the family about your engagement?" Jake asked as soon as he found Ben, his face lined with concern.
