CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery -
Chapter 1458
Jamie lay in bed alone, tears flowing freely, soaking her pillow. She didn't know how long she cried, but eventually, exhaustion overtook her, and she fell into a deep sleep.
Ben didn't sleep well that night either. He returned to his study, took a cold shower and sat at his desk. He then opened a drawer, pulling out an old photo of them together. He had never been able to throw it away. In the photo, they were nestled close, eyes filled with love for each other.
But now, he despised Jamie, and Jamie clearly hated him too. Logic told him he should stay far away from her, yet he couldn't bring himself to let go. Even if they were only left to hurt each other, he had accepted it.
The next morning, Winnie woke up to replace the other side of the bed empty. She barely glanced at it before getting up, washing up, and heading next door to check on Jamie.
......
She knocked at the door, but there was no response inside.
This felt wrong.
Though they hadn't lived together for years, Winnie knew Jamie's habits well. Jamie was always awake by seven at the latest. Now it was well past eight, almost nine. Could she have passed out? A wave of panic hit Winnie as she raised her voice, "Can you hear me? Jamie?"
Standing at the door waiting didn't seem like an option. She took a few steps back, preparing to kick the door open. But after a few tries, Ben emerged from the study, hearing the commotion. He quickly steadied her. "You're pregnant. Don't be making sudden moves like that."
"But Jamie still hasn't gotten up. It's really strange, and I'm worried she's passed out." Winnie's voice was full of concern, though she didn't mention that Jamie had fainted once before.
Back then, Jamie had been working
part-time handing out flyers and had collapsed on the street. A kind passerby had called Winnie, who had rushed over. The doctor had said it was due to malnutrition and low blood sugar, and if she had been home alone, it could have been dangerous.
How could she not be worried now?
"She just hasn't gotten up yet," Ben said with certainty.
After how late they had been up last night, and knowing how much Jamie resented him, she was probably muttering curses about him under her breath until she finally drifted off in the early morning. With only a few hours of sleep, it would be a miracle if she was awake already,
Winnie had no idea about any of this, and her worry grew. "We're making all this noise outside, and she still isn't waking up? That's not normal. Maybe I should call a locksmith?" "No need. We have a spare key," Ben replied, heading back to his study to retrieve it.
When he had renovated the house, he had prepared extra keys for each room, thinking he might convince Jamie to move in someday. If she was just hiding in bed and refusing to open the door, he would simply use the spare.
Winnie took the key, inserted it into the lock, and turned it. The door opened, and she hurried inside, rushing to Jamie's bedside.
"Jamie?" she called softly by Jamie's ear.
"What's wrong?" Jamie mumbled, groggily opening her eyes.
She felt utterly drained, as though she could stay wrapped in blankets and sleep until the end of time.
Winnie placed her hand on Jamie's forehead, checking for a fever. "Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
