Chapter 49

I went with Damon to rest that afternoon. I just sent our dinner to the room and Damon, and I ate together inside. We ate in silence. Maybe because we have the same deep thoughts. We're both occupied with something. I just wanted to end it all. I want Damon to be freed from the past. I want everything to be finished so I'll do everything just to get it done.

I watched Damon fall asleep and when I saw that he was sound asleep I got up to do my plan. I breathed heavily. I know I can do it. I just need to sneak out and get away from the guard roaming around the palace. Neticia's room is quite close, so I know it's only a few minutes to walk.

I slowly took the tray of what Damon, and I ate before opening the door. A guard guarding Damon and I's room quickly looked at me.

"Can you get this back from the kitchen?" I said handing the tray to him.

"I will, Luna. I will immediately send my replacement," he said before leaving. I watched the guard walk away and when I saw him turn to the hallway, I quickly left the room. I have to be fast. I need to get back before his replacement arrives to watch over our room. I quickly hid in a corner when I saw guards walking down the hallway. I'm dead if I get caught. When they passed, I quickly walked toward the corner where Neticia's room was. When I arrived, my eyes rolled to see that it was locked! What the hell? How can I get in?! I quickly hid behind a large flowerpot when another guard came by. I took a deep breath. How do I get in? I am so stupid! I didn't even think it might be locked! I was too complacent like before to get into it quickly.

This is frustrating!

While thinking about what to do, I heard many footsteps coming in my direction. I insisted on hiding even more. I'm guaranteed to be dead when they're in wolf form because they can easily smell me. I just hope they remained in their human form. "Is the Alpha asleep already?" I frowned when I heard Stone's voice.

"The Luna is with him, Stone. And this is so disappointing that you asked Alpha more than my condition," I stiffened when I heard Anna's voice! Stone and Anna! I heard them stop walking right in front of the flowerpot I was hiding! "Look, Anna. I am busy. I don't have time for drama-"

"Then, when will you have time for me?! And why do I feel like you've been avoiding me these past few months, Stone?!" Anna's tone rose a little. I can feel her pain the way she said it. I know Anna has been worried about the state of her relationship with Stone for a long time. I don't even know what's wrong with them.

But I'm a bit guilty because the search for Jules and Damon's orders to Stone made Anna's heart drift away from her mate.

"Why can't you understand that I'm busy?! You weren't like this before!" Stone sounds mad too. I bit my lower lip. It's bad to eavesdrop on someone's conversation but I can't help it. If I go out now, they will surely ask me why I am here.

"Because you didn't like this before, Stone! Even though you were busy, you always made time for me! For the two of us! What is really happening to you? And don't you dare lie to me because I know!" I heard Anna sob. My lips parted because I felt sorry for Anna, so how could the elders suspect Anna of betraying Damon? Anna can't do that to Damon.

The two were silent and all I could hear were Anna's sobs.

"I'm sorry..." Stone said almost in a whisper. I peeked a little and saw that Stone pulled Anna closer and hugged her tightly while Anna was crying non-stop in front of her. Anna is hurting. Damon should stop giving all the work to Stone!

"W-Why are you sorry? Are you doing something wrong, Stone? Are you doing something you couldn't tell me? What is it? You can tell me!" Anna almost begged him.

"I am an Alpha king's loyal subject, Anna. But there are things I want to do...and please....always think that everything I do...is always for you," Stone softly said.

Anna cried even more and tightened her grip on Stone.

"Why do I feel like....I am slowly losing you...Stone?" Anna's last words struck me. It seems like just the other day I thought the same thing about Damon. Since the problem with Jules came, I feel like I'm slowly being distanced from Damon by a dark and secret past. And I'm scared that Damon might forget me. I don't want that.

Soon the two left. Stone was guiding Anna to walk. I don't know where they are going. I hope they will both be okay. Hopefully, their relationship will be better.

I sighed and looked at the flowerpot where I was hiding. I frowned when I saw a wire there. It looks like it just got lost in the flowerpot. I stared at it and stopped when an idea came to me. I can use this wire to unlock the door!

I'm good at this! How many times have I run away from home with my hairpin just to escape the house and party the night away?

I took the wire and turned it where I wanted. I looked at the keyhole of Neticia's bedroom door and estimated its size. When I thought it was all right, I tried to shoot through the keyhole. But I failed. That doesn't fit because I have to fix it again. I was fixing the wire when I heard some footsteps coming in my direction.

Shit! I need it fixed! Damn it! I tried to put it in the keyhole but damn! It's not opening! The footsteps are coming closer!

My heartbeat pounded so fast against my chest. Fortunately, before the footsteps could reach me, I opened the bedroom door and closed it quickly. I sighed in relief as I finally opened the door. Damn it! That was close!

I was stunned when I looked around Neticia's room. My lips twitched when I saw that... Neticia's room was almost empty! What the hell happened here?! I thought Neticia's stuff wasn't being removed? Why are Neticia's things not here anymore?

I tried to search every corner of the room, but I failed to see a thing. It was empty. Where are Neticia's things?

I don't understand why this happened.

I was roaming around the room when my eyes stopped in the cabinet where I saw the pen holder before. I came here and tried to open every cabinet, but it was empty. I sighed heavily. Who removed the things here?

Is it Anna? Damon?

Who?

Out of annoyance, I kicked the cabinet but because of that, something rolled out from under the cabinet. And my eyes widened when I saw the...pen holder.
