Chapter 6 — How Could You

Lois:

I twirled around in the mirror and looked myself over. The current dress was knee high black and a bit too flirty. I pulled it over my head and threw it on to the bed. I was a mess and getting dressed was not my top priority anymore. The conversation with Lois earlier today was still bothering me.

Lois was a mess about the way Bash treated her. I felt for her, truly I did. I also knew where he was coming from. Everything he said to my sister was true and then some. Lola was a free spirit and liked the urban lifestyle.

Bash was not the image she painted him out to be. I nearly yelled out when she described their love-making session this morning. Bash loved morning sex in the bathroom. That following morning after our first night together, I experienced it for the first time.

"Lois why are there clothes all over the damn bed. The reason we got the walk-in closet was to keep these items in it, correct?"

Donnie's voice invaded my thoughts and ruined my stroll down memory lane. I sighed loudly and turned around to face him. I got to admit my husband looked damn good. He could hang a suit like no other and the open shirt displaying his chiseled chest was mouth-watering.

Donnie was a gorgeous light brown-skinned six feet even male. He had everything a woman could want looks, smarts, ambition, and money. Donnie lacked the biggest quality of all, selflessness. He was the most selfish person that I had ever known in my twenty-seven years.

I never wanted to be that woman who cheated on her husband or lusted over another man. This affair was killing me inside figuratively and literally. Instead of responding in my usual attitude as of late. I tried a different approach. "Sorry baby I am distracted from my time with Lola earlier today."

"Yeah? What's going on with her?"

Donnie seemed genuinely interested in talking and not arguing, so I glossed over the events from our kitchen. He laughed at our meltdowns, saying females could never hold executive offices for just that reason. Sexist as all hell and didn't even care who knew.

"That street thug probably is cheating. He works at a bar for Christ's sake, the type of people you meet in there hmm."

Donnie shook his head and grabbed for a tie. I was not completely sure he was super honest with me his damn self. He jumped to accuse Bash too damn fast. I walked over and grabbed his tie to help him and ran my hands down his abdomen. Couples go through rough spots, and I owed it to myself to attempt a resolution.

"Adonis tell me how much you love me."

I whispered in a low sultry voice while unbuckling his pants. I needed to hear him say it, we had not spoken the words in so long. "Lois, you know I do. The guest will be arriving any minute. We don't want to be laaaaate. Shit keep stroking me just like that Babe."

Donnie's voice dragged out as I stroked his shaft up into the perfect curved erection. I thought about dropping to my knees, but he had not earned that privilege back. Donnie reached over and caressed my breast through the camisole material.

He let out a throaty moan and then pulled my body to his. He pecked my lips and then attacked my neck. Donnie was a foreplay kind of guy, so his skipping the kissing let me know he was truly backed up. I pushed against him until we fell on the bed, and I was on top.

"Oh yes, Adonis. Tell me you love me."

He was sucking on my breast for dear life, and my center was throbbing. I reached back to stroke his rod and prepared to slide down it when the house phone went off. We both froze in shock because very few people dialed that number. I crawled off him and answered the phone.

"Hello."

"Um...yes hello. May I speak with Adonis please?"

"Who may I ask is calling?"

The voice on the phone was not one that I recognized. The only women that did call here were my mother, sister, and grandmother. I stood up completely with a full-blown attitude now because this person was too quiet. "This is Yasmine Tate his VIP client, and I need to speak with him it's urgent."

"Well, you should have announced yourself before giving out a demand. Phone etiquette is taught to VIP individuals, is it no—"

"This is Adonis? Hey, how you doing? Yeah, my phone is in the car. No. I am at home, but we can discuss that at the dinner tonight. Oh, is that so? Well, no one told me that. No, no, no, of course it's not an inconvenience. Yes, we will be there shortly."

Donnie hung up the phone and turned to look at me. The look on my face was no longer sultry, and he dropped that signature smile. He walked over and attempted to pull me into his embrace.

I moved backward and folded my arms over my chest. He growled and muttered under his breath, the defeated look on his face said it all. Donnie was about to piss me off with his next sentence. "I didn't check my emails today due to meetings. The dinner will be at some fancy restaurant in town. The client changed their mind at the last minute. Travel out here is so far from the city. "WHAT!"

The octave level of my voice probably shook the whole damn house. Did this man just tell me that we were going out to dinner? I slaved all damn day cooking and did last minute shopping. I took in a breath to calm myself. Naw, fuck that. "Adonis, what the fuck!"

"Lo, now don't you "

"Don't what? Be livid that you let me waste a fucking day cooking? Preparing a meal for a bunch of high-class white men? Don't lash out at the fact some random client is calling my home to speak to my husband. She sounded surprised to hear my voice. What exactly is going on between you and her? Don't you dare walk away while I am talking to you, Adonis Paul!"

He did the exact opposite of my command and went into the bathroom. Stupid ass left the door wide open, and I went in for the kill. Adonis was at the sink washing his face and preparing his toothbrush. I peered at him through the mirror with a rock in my jaw. He was going to answer my muthafuckin questions.

"Lois, we were having a good time until you answered the phone. I think you are working too much and should take some time off. Clearly, the case-load is getting to be too much. You have fabricated this idea in your mind that I am sleeping with a client. Insanity!"

He spoke while brushing his teeth and had the nerve to let out a small chuckle. Why the hell did I even put in the effort with him anymore? He shook his hands free of excess water and then reached for a hand towel and begin to speak again. "You know what? I will tell the guys that you fell ill and could not make it. You get in the bed and rest. I'll have the cafeteria staff, from the firm come over to get the food. There are plenty of soup kitchens that appreciate a home cooked meal." I must have blacked out because the next thing I knew Adonis had me pinned to the bed yelling stop it. He had a few scratches on his neck and a bruise on his cheek. Did I do that? Have I become a monster who lashes out with violence? "How could you Adonis? Everything and everyone else matter more to you than I do."

I began to cry, and my body went limp, and he got off me. I curled up into a ball on the bed and cried my eyes out. Adonis continued to get dressed as he had not a care in the world. My husband did not care about my feelings or to comfort me. What had become of my life, sneaking around with my sister's husband?

My own husband was a raging workaholic, and I was nothing now. The bedroom door slammed, and I screamed out. Shame that there was only one person that I wanted right now. Bash could make all the pain of today go away with a few simple words.
