Cheers To Comeuppance
Chapter 59( Part 2)

Chapter 59 pt. 2

While Hunter was concluding his meeting with Annika’s family at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, Sadie was trashing her cell. She was screaming and crying. Her public defender had informed her of her new court date, but not only that, but he also notified her of Jeff’s death.

Sadie was in complete disbelief when she first heard what her lawyer told her, and she thought he was pulling her leg. However, when he showed her all of the articles surrounding Jeff’s suicide, Sadie lost her mind. She smashed his tablet on the table until it shattered into a million pieces. Sadie’s outburst got the attention of the correctional officers, and she had to be sedated and taken back to her cell.

Once she was awake, her cellmates started to mock her after they had also heard that her “baby daddy” had off himself and abandoned her. Sadie got into another fight with her cellmates. They tussled with one another, two against one, and the other two had the advantage, and Sadie ended up being thrown to the ground without remorse for her pregnancy. Not caring about her baby, Sadie got up and somehow got the upper hand against her assailants.

She slammed one of their heads against the sink using sheer adrenaline, knocking them out cold. The other had slammed Sadie against the wall, but she pulled their hair so hard that she ripped out a handful by the roots. The pain was so excruciating for the other women that she let Sadie go. In her rage, Sadie smashed the other women’s face into the wall multiple times. Completely rearranging her face before guards came to break up the fight. Luckily for the other woman, she would survive her injuries, but Sadie’s wrath permanently damaged her face.

However, Sadie, having forgotten that she was shoved to the ground earlier, felt a sudden burst of pain in her lower abdomen. She screamed out from the intensity, which caught the guards’ attention.

“s**t, she’s bleeding!”

“Take her to the infirmary!”

Sadie was unconscious for some time before she finally came to and was once again in her cell. Only this time, she was alone. When she looked at the door of her cell, she was surprised to see Kenzie.

“What the f**k are you doing here?” she snapped at Kenzie.

“The prison called me because I was your last OB-GYN on file.”

“So? That doesn’t explain why you’re here!”

“You really are a selfish b***h, aren’t you?”

“What the f**k is that supposed to mean!?”

“Sadie, I honestly feel sorry for you.”

“Are you mocking me!?”

“No, I’m not. I honestly do feel sorry for you. I was told that you were beaten up once already here, and not even a week later, you were beaten up again. Over what? Jeff?”

“Get your facts straight! I beat them up!”

“Yeah, yeah, you did. Unfortunately, it didn’t come without a price,” Kenzie stated sternly.

“What are you talking about?”

“Sadie, did you forget that you were pregnant!? That you were still susceptible to a miscarriage!?” Kenzie shouted at her. Sadie paused a moment as she processed Kenzie’s words.

“You said ‘were’ as is past tense.” It wasn’t a question; it was a statement. As Kenzie’s words played through her head once, Sadie reached down to touch her stomach. Tears filled her eyes uncontrollably when she found that her baby bump was no longer there.

“Sadie, you need to start realizing that the world doesn’t revolve around you. You were so caught up in trying to maintain an image that was no longer relevant rather than protecting yourself and your unborn baby. You let Jeff’s cowardly ways control your emotions so much that you started to pick fights with women who could literally kill you in here without remorse. And in doing so, you had your killed!” Kenzie yelled at her. “That excruciating pain you felt a few hours ago after your stupid fight? Yeah, that was your baby leaving you. You being thrown to the ground like that ruptured the placenta. That’s what carries all of the nutrients to the baby. That’s what allows your baby to breathe inside you as it grows. If that ruptures and you don’t receive immediate medical care, your baby suffocates and dies!”

“Are you saying that my baby died?”

“YES, YOU STUPID CUNT!” Kenzie blew her bangs out of her face. “Sadie, it’s over for you now. Not only are you being charged for the fraud against Leon and the attempted murder of Annika, but now you’re going to be charged with aggravated assault on two inmates.”

“They attacked me first!?”

“The prison has cameras, Sadie. And the footage shows that you attacked them first. All they did was talk s**t to you. But as always, you didn’t think about the repercussions of your actions, and you landed the first hit. They were well in their right to protect themselves.”

“If they called you, why didn’t you save my baby!?” Sadie cried as she rushed the bars of her cell.

“It was already too late by the time I got here. The infirmary doctor had already pronounced your baby dead when I arrived. The only thing I could do was surgically terminate the rest of the pregnancy. There was no one to save at that point.”

“Where is my baby?” Sadie asked with tears flowing down her face. Kenzie took a deep breath contemplating if she should allow Sadie to see her fetus, but she felt that it could knock some sense into her if she did.

“If you promise to behave, I’ll take you down the prison morgue to say goodbye to your baby.”

“I promise.”

“Fine. Let’s go.” Kenzie signaled for the guard to open the door. They quickly put Sadie into cuffs and escorted her to the prison morgue. When she arrived, she was shocked to see a small lump on the cold metal table. “Normally, fetuses that die from a miscarriage are not kept; however, your baby developed enough to be recognized as human. As such, the infirmary doctor and I agreed to preserve your baby in case you wanted to see it.”

“Is it a boy or a girl?”

“A boy. You have five minutes.” Kenzie and their escort waited just outside the doors. Sadie’s cries could be heard not even a second after the door closed. Kenzie couldn’t help but feel sorry for Sadie and her unborn baby. Even if Sadie was an evil b***h, no one ever wanted her to lose her baby.

Kenzie peeked through the window and saw Sadie on her knees, holding her son’s body close to her. Sadie’s reaction to her baby’s death was one that could not be faked. Even if Sadie was selfish and deserved all the punishments coming her way, she didn’t deserve to lose her baby the way she did. However, Kenzie couldn’t help but also feel that this was Sadie’s comeuppance for everything she had done to those around her.

“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! Please, come back! You were the only thing I had left! Please! I’m sorry, baby! Come back! Please!” Sadie cried as she rocked her son’s body, pleading for him to return to her.

“It’s time,” the guard said to Kenzie.

“Give her a few more minutes.”

“The prison has rules, Dr. Malloy.”

“And she’s a grieving mother. Give her time to say goodbye and come to terms with it.” The guard hesitated momentarily but decided to give Sadie a few more minutes. After those few minutes were up, the guard pulled Sadie up, but Sadie refused to let go of her son.

“Sadie, please give him to me,” Kenzie said softly.

“No. He’s mine. You can’t have him!”

“Sadie, he’s gone. You need to let him go.”

“NO! NO! I’m sorry! Okay! I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’m really, really sorry! I’m so sorry! My baby didn’t deserve this! He was innocent! He deserved to live!”

“I know, he did. But unfortunately, that’s not possible anymore.”

“Why!? Why!? Why did everyone leave me!? Leon left me! Jeff left! My dad! My lawyer! And now my son! Why!? Why is everyone leaving me!?” Sadie cried and then dropped to her knees again. Kenzie could feel Sadie’s anguish of loneliness and couldn’t help but shed a few tears of her own. Even the guard had tears in her eyes. It was seldom that an inmate showed this much remorse for their crimes if any at all. So, seeing Sadie crying in pain the way she was tugged on the officer’s heartstrings.

It took several minutes to calm Sadie down. Kenzie promised Sadie that she would bury her son with respect and let her know exactly where he would be buried so that when she was eventually released, she could see him. With that promise, Sadie was escorted back to her cell, where she was still thrashing everything and crying her heart out.

In the long run, Sadie burned all of her energy and passed out from crying. She was kept in solitary confinement until she was healed and then returned to the general population but was still given her own cell. Sadie kept quiet the entire time, having suddenly become a new person in the eyes of the other inmates and correctional officers.
