Chapter 0406
Carlos POV.
I stared at the glowing woman in front of me, consumed by confusion. Her sentence playing around in my head similar to that of a broken record, repeating the same section of the same song.
"Who exactly are you?" I asked already feeling like my answer was obvious. After so many years of human discrimination and abuse, My assumption was that the moon goddess did exist, that she was in fact a figment of the Lycan kinds imagination. Witnessing her unexpected appearance with my own two eyes, was like a bullet in my stomach.
"Even when the answers you seek are directly in front of you, you still ask the question." She giggled a deep resonating giggle and inched slightly closer to me. "You asked for my strength did you not? I am here to provide that."
"If you're really the goddess of the wolves, then why help me now? Where have you been for the last five and a half years!" I was so mad. I mean why? After two years of isolation, and torment, she chose this specific moment to come to my aid?
"You are angry... and rightly so. Like another, you have experienced far more than anyone should have." Like another? Was she speaking of Dylan? Because that girl was the only one I knew who had gone through more than even me.
"So why not interfere with your monstrous creations sooner, why are you finally showing your face now." She looked at the floor, pondering over my question, a certain sadness took over her angelic features.
"It was not in my power to meddle. Intervention could only begin with one of you. That is why young miss Dylan was paired with his Grace, King Josh, and by extension it is why you were paired with Lorellia." I frowned feeling even more pity for that poor girl. So much weight rested on her shoulders, although I had no idea that the moon goddess had plans for both of us.
"You made me be the mate to Lorellia for the sake of human rebellion?!" My voice rose slightly disgusted by her plan. Why did I have to suffer so much for the rebellion when I was a part of it from the very beginning.
"I sincerely apologize for my actions.
I deeply regret the torment you have
endured at the hands of my creation. I was angry, nothing could have prepared me for the rage I felt towards this woman. Forcibly pairing me up with a psychotic
woman.
"Would you change anything..." I asked anger leaking out of my words despite my attempt to calm myself down. "If you could change anything about your actions, would you?"
He eyes fell to the ground, a goddess currently stood before me, and my one simple question had created a crack in her perfect persona.
"No! For everything that has transpired has been necessary..." Her apology meant absolutely nothing to me. "Please, I do not have long..." Even I could sense that she was losing her grip on this world.
"Then say what you wanted to and then leave me to die."
"I told you, I will allow you to draw on my strength. You need only persevere and I shall grant you a blessing fit for your previous trepidations..." Speaking in riddles wasn't doing anything for my anger. In fact it was only increasing my rage. "Can't you speak in English?" I sneered before feeling an immense ache in my ankle, a feeling I had never experienced before. It wasn't exactly pain, but it was suddenly dull and constant.
"Heed my warning, child... You must
remember to preserve innocence..." Her silvery voice faded along with her physical appearance until I was the only person left in the gardens, well, me and the two unconscious wolves lying 5 feet away from me.
The silver chain that had been connected to my leg, now lay open and unused on the floor next to me, while the two guards woke up and stood quickly, wiping the sleeping spell out of their eyes, and silently telling themselves that nothing happened.
