Claimed By My Three Alphas -
Chapter 71
AMERY
.
I breathed out In relief when Asher practically dived outside my bedroom through the window. That was a close call. I unlocked the door and twisted it open to reveal my mom who was clad in her towel like nightdress. "Are you okay?" She asked when she noticed how unsettled I was. How can I be okay after I had successfully made out with one of the hottest princes that ever lived, in my bedroom and what's worse, under my parents roof. Amery, you're getting wild and daring without even realizing it. I applauded myself.
"I'm okay mom." I ran my fingers through my hair and tried to adjust my dress that had suffered a whole night of assault and s****l tension from a boy that had snuck into my room. I wanted to believe that last night didn't happen but then the sticky liquid that glided between my thighs like a second skin told me otherwise. "I thought I heard voices."
I swallowed. Hard. "V-Voicea?" I laughed "How is that even possible when I'm literally the only one in my room. I think you were only imagining things mom. There are no voices here. At least for the past five minutes go." I mumbled the last part to myself and she nodded her head slowly.
"If you say so." She muttered. Her eyes still fixed on the window as though she was looking at something. Did Asher perhaps forget something of his while flying away? If that boy ever puts me in a bind then he's going to hear it from me and I mean it. Mom walked towards the window and I slowly trailed behind her as I plotted a million and one lies that would get me out of any trouble should In case I replace myself in one.
"Your wondows open." She eyed me curiously. "You never sleep with your windows open."
"It was pretty hot last night so I decided to let in some that cool evening...I mean morning air." I bit down on my lips when we realized that I had said too much already. At this rate, I'd probably sell myself before out before I get the chance to even get caught. "Why are you up so early?" I asked and she finally directed her seeking eyes to my face rather than scanning for clues that I doubted she would replace.
"I couldn't tell you yesterday because....well, you came back angry and upset and you even refused to have dinner so I figured I'd tell you now."
I knitted my brows In ardent confusion. "Are you..."I trailed off and pointed my hands to her stomach but she slapped them down playfully. "Amery." She called out surprised.
"Can you blame me? You came up here looking so happy and excited so I couldn't help it. I thought that you were pregnant which I promise to be happy be happy if you are but I still prefer being an only child." I grumbled. "That's all I wanted to say."
She laughed. "You're right. I am happy but not about the pregnancy part. That would never happen even if I wanted it to." I could hear the pain registered in her words but I chose to focus on the good news that I would be getting instead which had already piqued my interest.
"I'm happy because I finally got a job." She broke down the news and I squealed happily.
"A job? But when? How?"
"Long story but the bottom line is, I've finally gotten one."
"Does dad know?" I asked the first question that came to my mind. "And even if he did, did he approve of it?"
"Yes he did and that's why I wanted to tell you about it."
I flushed feeling embarrassed. "I actually had a rough day and that's why-"
"It's okay Amery. I understand." She conceded. "And now with that being said, it's time to get ready for school."
"Shoot." I exclaimed and grabbed my towel before rushing into the bathroom. I turned on the shower and stood under the cold water. My mind drifted off to the incident that happened last night and I couldn't help the blush that crept up to my cheeks. Asher had really come into my room last night.
The realization came back with mixed feelings that I couldn't understand. I didn't know if I should be happy about it or if I should feel worried. I mean, Asher was one of the person that I had bonded with. He knew me like the back of his palm and had gone out of his way to protect me but I still had my doubts.
After the incident that happened weeks ago, I couldn't help but wonder if I should give him a chance or if I should stay away. He had apologized to me alright and he had also promised to help me replace my birth parents but still, I couldn't help but feel worried. Maybe I would let him stick around and see where all of this leads us. Come to think of it, I needed him a lot more now. He had a lot of resources and he could actually help me replace the answers to all of the questions that I seek. They had all used me before so it wouldn't be a bad thing to actually be selfish at some point and take matters into my own hands.
If my parents had abandoned me just like my adopted mother had told me then it would only mean one of two things.
One, which is they were werewolves just like me or two, they had found something wrong about me that they had wanted to bury with no one knowing and if I should unravel the truth then I would need a strong pillar like Asher supporting me.
I finished with my bath and wore my clothes. After grooming myself properly for school, I headed downstairs. I found mom and dad already seated for breakfast. Dad was flipping through the pages of the morning newspaper and mom was humming happily as she served breakfast. I could get used to this but each time, my subconscious reminded me that I wasn't a part of this family as I had hoped.
I was different from them and the thought of knowing that always left a whole In my chest. It was like a void that I couldn't fill.
"Sit down for breakfast Amery." Mom called after me. "You didn't have anything to eat last night."
"But I'm already late-"
"No buts." She pointed her finger at me and I shut up instantly. "Sit down and eat. You haven't eaten all through yesterday and I won't let you leave the house on an empty stomach. Besides, it's your favourite."
"I thought I smelt something on my way down the stairs." I approached the table and sat down on my seat after placing my bag just beside the leg of my chair.
"Peanut butter and jam. You're amazing." I blew mom a flying kiss and dug into my food.
"Our next door neighbor stopped by this morning." Dad blurted out to mom as he took a sip of his coffee. His eyes still fixed on the paper in front of him. "The Mason's? And what do they want?"
"Apparently victor heard something in the bushes this morning while trying to take Abby to use the potty outside." He went on. I wonder what was so interesting about a grown man taking his dog to poop in the bushes. "What is it?" Mom asked, her nose flared up as she listened with rapt attention. Trust her to fuel a discussion and she would deliver.
"He saw a boy running away."
I choked on my tea the minute my brain processed those words. Boy? Oh my goodness Asher.
They whipped their heads towards my direction. "Are you okay Ames?" Dad took the liberty to ask and I gave them the thumbs up since I couldn't stop coughing. I think most of the liquid had gone through my windpipe. "A boy?" Mom repeated and I wished that the earth would just open up and swallow me whole.
"A very tall boy like he had described."
A shocked gasp escaped mom's lips. "Oh my. Did he see where he went?"
"No. He was too scared to look. I really hope this quiet place isn't being targeted by burglars."
"And to think that Amery had her window open the entire night." Mom shrieked and my jaw dropped to the ground. Why did she have to say something like that? It wasn't even part of the discussion. Damn it! "Not the entire night mom." I laughed nervously.
"Make sure to always have your windows locked young lady." Dad warned me sternly. "I honestly don't know what the community is suddenly turning into. I wouldn't want anyone barging into your room or worse."
"Of course dad." I replied and munched on my food while they talked amongst themselves. This advice would've been helpful a few days ago because someone had already barged Into my room unannounced and I meant it literally.
