“Why?” I screamed on top of my lungs.
The word slipped out of me before I could stop it. “Why would be meeting Dax? I thought your aim was to keep me away from him?” He turned to look at me with a glare on his face.
“Need I remind you your place? How dare you question me!!” He barked but I couldn’t care less about the noise coming from him? I just wanted him to answer the d**n question.
“If you must know, even if you don’t deserve to, I’m taking you there to dangle you in his face and remind him of your imprisonment.” He mocked and it was almost sad to look at him. To hear the words come out of him.
Look at him thinking he had the biggest weapon in his arsenal when he didn’t. “I’m sure he doesn’t know and even if he did, he doesn’t care. He’s mated with someone else and she’s the one that matters most to him, not me!” I warned him and he charged towards me threatening to bulldoze through me if I didn’t move but of the way,
“Enough with all the stupid lies, okay? I know you’re lying and at this point, it’s starting to get pathetic. I know he’s your mate and I also know that you’re carrying his child so cut the crap and get ready for tomorrow, nothing you say is going to make me change my mind about taking you there. You’re going to be embarrassed beyond measures and it’s going to bring me great joy.”
He said and stalked out of the dining room. I wasn’t sure whether to feel bad for him or to be glad. Not that the situation was good for me either. I was really concerning to know that the man whose child I was carrying didn’t care if I dead or alive. Part of me was also curious to know if Dax was done caring about me, he gave me enough proof that he was but it’s his child, isn’t it? He should at least care for the heir to his throne if not his ex.
I secretly wondered if he still loved me. The love we shared was great for him not to have any feelings left for me at all.
I thought about him sometimes before I went to sleep. He treated me like a piece of shit but I still missed him at night. I missed the way he held me close when it was cold. The smell of his clothes, the warmth of his arms. The kisses that he showered me even before I asked. The pecks that he randomly planted on my forehead making me feel more loved than anyone that I knew.
I didn’t know how much I relied on him until I had to let him go. I didn’t realize just how much I was reliant on him until he started to not care about me and to give all the love that he used to give to me to that witch. When he sent me out of the room so he could sleep with her on the very bed that we made the pup that was in my stomach. I felt like it was a phase and that it was going to pass, I hoped that it was a phase and it was going to pass but it didn’t
I didn’t know what to do. My heart ached and it still very much did at the moment. It was only suppressed because I had so much going on with Aston and his pack and trying to keep my baby alive that I didn’t remember just how much that I loved him and now that he was mentioned to me again, now that Aston had planted him in my mind. I needed to know how he was doing. What he looked like and if he was as miserable as I was. I knew that I would feel so much better if he missed me, if he wanted to make amends,
It was safe to say that I had a completely restless night. I couldn’t sleep a wink. Between thinking of the trip and meeting Dax. I wasn’t exactly in the right state for a meeting with an ex.
The sun rose with a vengeance, and I was woken by a splash of cold water to the face An act that I would never be able to get used to no matter how many times they did it. I just always seemed to come so unexpectedly and it never put me in the right state of mind
“Get up!” barked one of Aston’s maids. “The Alpha demands your presence.”
What does he want with me? Lasked, my voice h**se with s
ith sleep.
“You’ll replace out soon enough,” the maid snapped. “Now get dressed. And hurry.
Aly stomach twisted in knots as I slipped into the plain, ill-fitting clothes they had provided. My mind raced, I knew what he wanted with me and that was what made even more nervous. That was what took the sleep from me the entire night.
As I approached his office, my heart pounding in my chest, I turned a corner and collided with a wall of muscle and warmth.
“Oh I’m so sorry!” I gasped, feeling the blush rise in my cheeks as I looked up to see Aston’s brother, his eyes wide with
surprise.
“Kira?” he asked, his voice laced with confusion. “What are you doing here?” I liked the way my name rolled out of his
Longue.

“I was summoned to the Alpha’s office.” I explained, trying to keep my voice steady. “I was just on my way.”
He nodded, but his eyes narrowed with concern. “Are you alright?”
I forced a smile, trying to reassure him, even as my heart threatened to leap out of my chest. “I’m fine, I lied, aware of the quiver in my voice. “You look a little nervous,” he insisted and he was right, but he’d already done enough for me. I didn’t want to add to his pile of things to worry about even if I needed his help.
His eyes searched my face, his expression softening. “You’ll be fine, there’s nothing for you to worry about.” He lied through
his teeth.
My breath caught in my throat. I hadn’t expected kindness, not from one of Aston’s pack and especially not his brother. I swallowed, my eyes drifting away from his as I struggled to replace the right words. “Thank you, I murmured and tried to navigate my way to the alpha’s office.
He reached out and touched my arm gently, his eyes burning with intensity. “Trust me, Kira, you’ll be fine.”
His words were like a balm on my soul, easing some of the fear that had been building in my heart. I could feel his eyes burning through my back as I walked off. I almost forgot how to walk even.
I finally reached Aston’s office and I could swear the room was a lot more colder than it was outside, he had an icy feel around him.
“Why the hell is your sorry a** just arriving? Can I really expect nothing good out of you? Even the bare minimum of arriving early? Are you that much of a lost cause?!
I cringed as his harsh words lashed across my face like icy whips. The air seemed to crackle with his fury, every muscle in his body tensed and poised to strike.
“You’ll have to excuse my tardiness, Alpha,” I said, my voice trembling slightly.
Aston’s lip curled into a sneer, his eyes narrowed to slits. “I’m sure that I’ve told you this before but I’m aware of your learning disabilities so I’m going to tell you again. I do not excuse lateness! I also do not care what the circumstances of your lateness are, I expect punctuality at all times!”
I swallowed hard, my palms sweaty as I fought to keep my voice steady.
“I’m really sorry, once again.” I apologized.
Aston’s expression shifted, his anger dissipating for a moment, replaced by a calculating glint in his
cyes.
“If we weren’t already late, I’d punish you for this. I’d show you just how much I hated when people made unforgivable mistakes like tardiness.”
Aston’s gaze bored into me, his scepticism radiating like a tangible force. He was considering hitting me and going on the trip early.
I shifted uncomfortably under his piercing stare.
I nodded, my heart still-pounding in my chest as Aston gestured howards the door.
“Come, we have a long journey ahead of us. The downfall of someone you love awaits, we can’t delay it any longer.” He mocked and walked ahead of me, his outfit demeaning mine by lot. I looked like a slave and I was sure as hell that was part of the whole thing.
I followed him out of the office and into the chilly morning air. Aston’s black SUV was already idling by the curb, its tinted windows concealing the occupants within.
