Claiming My Wolf -
Chapter 49
~~Logan’s PoV~~
I can’t believe this is really happening.
Sadie’s hands run down my bare chest in the darkness of my room. She just pulled my shirt off, taking the lead, and the feel of her fingers against my bare skin is electric as her mouth replaces mine again. I’ve never felt this kind of desire, this kind of need, this kind of energy.
It just feels right.
I don’t know if the tingles that her touch causes are a sign of a mate bond or if it’s just something about her, but at this point it hardly makes any difference.
For a moment, I think I hear voices outside my room, but then her tongue collides with mine again, and I forget everything but the feel of her, the smell of her, the taste of her. With a possessive growl, I reach behind her and pull down the zipper of her shiny, silver dress. It sparkles in the dim moonlight that’s coming in my window.
Then suddenly the whole room goes bright and I wince as I look towards the door, trying to figure out what just happened.
My mouth drops open as I see Micah standing there, just inside the closed door, and he’s looking at me just the same, looking at me and Sadie with his lips parted like he can’t believe what he’s seeing.
Sadie quickly gets off me, her hands going to her chest to stop her unzipped dress from falling down. “Micah?” she asks, the word coming out as a squeak and a guilty look on her face. “What are you doing here?”
That’s a damn good question. Why is here in my room, and why is here in the pack at all? I sniff the air and am surprised that he doesn’t have the rogue smell anymore.
What the f*ck is going on?
He blinks twice, his jaw tight, and then he seems to snap out of it. He looks at Sadie with a cold, hard expression on his face.
“I’ve come to kill you.”
What? I jump to my feet, ready to protect her, before I even realize what I’m doing.
Micah huffs bitterly as he looks over at me. “Not really, of course. But that’s what he thinks. That’s why he brought me here.”
I’m completely lost. “What who thinks?” Does that mean he found out who’s behind all of this?
Micah looks back towards the door. “We don’t have much time. They don’t know Sadie’s here, they think it’s just you in here and I’m supposed to be wishing you a happy birthday.”
His voice is still cold as he looks at me, and I don’t feel like he’s wishing me very much happiness right now at all. What is he so angry about? What’s happened since the last time we talked?
“Someone brought you here to kill Sadie?” I ask, trying to make sense of what he’s saying. “So you met the boss? You know who it is?”
“I know,” he confirms, but he doesn’t sound very happy about that either. “And he’s got a backup plan, and probably a backup plan for his backup plan. If I don’t do it, someone else will.”
“I’ll protect her,” I promise him. “Just tell me what’s going on and we can stop it.”
“You’ll protect her?” He’s almost sneering at me now. “Just like you protected your mom and sister?”
His words pierce my lungs like a knife and I replace myself struggling to breathe.
“How can you say that?” Sadie’s angry now too, jumping to my defense. “Don’t go back to being an a*****e, Micah. I liked the new you a lot better.”
“Apparently you didn’t like me enough,” he mutters, giving me another angry look, and finally I think I’m starting to understand.
Does he have feelings for Sadie?
“Micah, I had no idea,” I tell him honestly. With the way he acted towards her when she first arrived, if he does like her, he did a damn good job of hiding it.
My sympathy only seems to make him angrier. “We don’t have time for this. You need to get me and Sadie out of the house, now.”
“Out?” I repeat, confused all over again. “Where?”
“I’ll take her somewhere safe,” he says. “Until you can take care of the traitors. Hurry, he’ll be here any minute.”
I still don’t totally understand, but I trust that, even as angry as he is, Micah won’t do anything to hurt Sadie, or me, or the pack. I know he’s a good guy, deep down, so I’m going to have to trust him.
“This way,” I command, gesturing towards a hidden door in the corner of my room. Sadie takes a step, but her dress is still undone, so I stop her and do it back up. She blushes a little as my fingers brush against her skin, and Micah’s jaw clenches again as he watches us.
“Hurry up,” he growls again.
We go through the door and into the small space between the walls of the pack house. We always had a couple of escape routes, and after the attack on my mom and Kara last year, my dad had them reinforced and a couple of new ones added. I lead them through the maze of corridors until we end up at a door to the outside.
“The party’s still going on,” I remind them both. “So try to stay out of sight. Do you know where you’re going?”
Micah nods. “I have a plan. They shouldn’t be able to replace us for a while, so it’ll give you some breathing room.”
“Who’s they?” I ask again, and this time he finally answers me, but never in a million years could I have expected the answer he gives.
“It’s my dad. He’s the bastard behind all of it. He’s the one after Sadie, and he was the one who ordered the attack on your mom and Kara too. It’s been him the whole time.”
