Claiming My Wolf -
Chapter 53
~~Micah’s PoV~~
Sadie looks at me with those big, beautiful eyes of hers as I ask her to choose me. I know it’s a bit of an a*****e move. She obviously has feelings for Logan and he must like her too. I’ve never known him just to fool around with anyone, so if he didn’t have some kind of feelings for her, he wouldn’t have done it.
But I also know what I said was true. Logan won’t go against the mate bond. It would be a bad example for the pack, and his responsibility to the pack means everything to him. More than Sadie does, I’m sure of that.
She deserves someone willing to put her first, and I could give her that.
And besides, if I don’t say something now, I might never get another chance.
If she tells me she’s not interested, then I’ll deal with that, but I have to at least try.
I’ve never even thought about committing to someone until I met her, but now it sounds natural to say it. She makes me feel something completely new. She makes me want to be better. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it was through helping her that I learned exactly how much of my life was built on a lie, trying to emulate a man who was never worth trying to impress.
“What about Blair?” she asks, and the question takes me completely by surprise. To be honest, I haven’t thought about Blair in days.
“What about her?”
“She’s been missing you,” Sadie tells me. “When you left, she was really upset. Aren’t you guys sort of seeing each other?”
Blair was missing me? I had no idea. We’d hardly spoken since Sadie and I made peace with each other, and I thought it was just as casual for her as it was for me.
“We hooked up a few times,” I admit. “That’s all it was.”
F*ck, this isn’t the way I wanted this conversation to go. The last thing I want to do is talk about other girls, especially since I know that it doesn’t put me in a good light next to Logan.
“And what about your mate?” she asks next. “It wouldn’t bother you that there’s somebody out there that you’re supposed to be with and you’re choosing not to be?”
“I’ve never given it a lot of thought,” I answer honestly. “I figured it would happen when it happened but it’s not like I sit in my room dreaming about it.”
That makes her smile.
“And I honestly don’t think there could be anyone better for me out there than you are.”
“How can you be so sure?” Her question is curious and sincere, and she leans forward a little in anticipation of my answer.
“Because you’re special.” It’s the best way I can explain it. “You’re different, Sadie. At first I thought it was a bad kind of different, as you know.”
She smiles again, her eyes warm. She’s obviously forgiven me for how much of a jerk I was, which is just another reason I admire her.
“But the more I got to know you, the more I realized it’s an amazing different. And I think we could be amazing together, if you gave it a chance.”
I get up, leaving the chair I’m in, and go sit next to her on the couch. She doesn’t move back, she just keeps watching me curiously.
“You don’t need to decide right this second,” I say. I don’t want to put pressure on her, I just want her to know she’s got options. “But before you make any decisions, you should have all the information.”
Sitting this close to her, I can see the lighter brown flecks in her dark brown eyes. She’s looking at me too, really looking at me, more than she’s ever done before.
“And maybe…” I suggest, leaning a bit closer. “You need a bit more information so you can make a direct comparison.”
When our lips meet this time, it’s a lot better than it was the first time. She’s expecting it, for one thing, and there’s a new desperation in me too. This is my one chance to prove to her that whatever connection she’s got with Logan, we’ve got our own chemistry too.
I’m not going to waste my chance.
My hand goes around the back of her head, holding her firmly as I take the k**s deeper. She tastes as good as I could have imagined, like sunshine and hope and promises. Like all my favorite things rolled into one.
And she k****s me back too. Maybe not with quite as much passion as I’m kissing her, but she’s giving it a chance, and it’s good. I can see just how good it would be to get to k**s her every day.
Suddenly there’s a bright flash of light, so bright that I see it clearly through my closed eyelids. We break apart in surprise, both turning towards the source of the light, and my mouth drops open when I see the figure standing there.
It’s a woman, a beautiful woman, standing in the middle of the room even though the door never opened. She’s bathed in light, but not a bright light anymore after that initial burst. It’s more subtle, just a gentle glow.
Like moonlight.
Her eyes rest on me for just a second before moving to Sadie, and she smiles at her with an expression full of kindness and tenderness.
“Hello, Sadie,” she says. “I know I’m a few days early, but your wolf has been calling to me. It seems you’ve all gotten in a bit of trouble here and could use some help.”
Her wolf? I look at Sadie in surprise, but she looks as confused as I am. How could her wolf be doing anything yet when she hasn’t turned 18 yet?
“Who are you?” Sadie asks the woman, and I think she genuinely doesn’t know.
I know, though. My wolf is already on his knees in my mind, bowing to the creator of us all.
The Moon Goddess herself.
