Claiming My Wolf
Chapter 60

~~Logan’s PoV~~

As soon as the Beta shifts to his wolf and leaps at Sadie, I run towards her and from the corner of my eye, I see Micah do the same. For some reason she doesn’t move or try to get out of the way. She just stands there, waiting for him to attack, and I shift back into my human form to try to warn her, though I don’t know how she can miss it.

“Sadie!” I shout just as the Beta lands on her, tackling and pinning her to the ground, and she cries out in pain as his claws rip through her flesh. I almost feel like it’s my skin being torn, it hurts me just as much to see her in pain.

Micah’s still in his wolf form and he hits his father now, pushing him off Sadie, but it’s not necessary. For some reason, the Beta’s wolf has gone limp, but I’m not worried about him right now. I rush to Sadie’s side just as her eyes close, and it feels like my whole world dims too.

“No!” I shout hoarsely at no one in particular. “Not this time. You can’t leave me too.”

I’m naked, of course, from my shift, and so is everyone else around us, but Sadie is still wearing clothes. Apologizing to her in my head, I rip her shirt off and then tear it into smaller pieces, my adrenaline giving me even more strength than usual as I create some makeshift bandages for her wounds.

Micah comes up beside me, in his human form now too, and I instruct him to press down on two of the biggest wounds, the ones with the most b***d, while I work on the others.

“She’ll be okay,” he promises me, though his voice shakes a little. “She’s got her wolf now, she can heal.”

How does she have her wolf? I don’t understand, but it’s not the question I need answered most right now. “What about him?” I ask, gesturing with my head towards the Beta’s body. I don’t take my eyes off Sadie though.

“Dead,” Micah answers coldly. “Sadie has a poisoned knife, she used it on him.”

That’s why she just stood there and let him attack her? “You said you were going to protect her,” I growl at Micah.

“She can protect herself,” he snaps right back at me. “And it was only because he thought she was weak that my dad attacked her himself. If it was you or me, he would have sent one of his followers to do it. He was a coward, right to the end.”

He has a point there. I tear my eyes away from Sadie to look over at the Beta’s lifeless wolf on the forest floor. I’m glad he’s dead, but I’m upset too. I really wanted him to properly pay for what he’s done, to suffer as he made others suffer. This quick death seems too good for him, but at least it’s finished now. Without their leader, the wolves around us have stopped fighting, and I’m getting reports in my head that others are surrendering too. There will be plenty of work to sort out punishments later.

“She’s moving!” Micah calls out beside me, and instantly my eyes are back on Sadie. I’m holding her hand in mine, and Micah’s got her other one.

“Sadie? Can you hear me?” Thank the Goddess, it looks like she’s okay, but I’ll feel so much better when I hear her speak.

And as she starts to stir, something new stirs in me too. It’s like a fire that starts in my fingers, the ones holding onto hers, and it shoots up my arm, straight to my heart.

Mate!

I hear my wolf Shadow cry out in joy, but I can hardly believe it. Is this for real? He didn’t recognize her before at the party. But she didn’t have her wolf then, and apparently now she does? But are the bonds fixed? I’m so confused. Part of me is alive with hope, the other part is trying not to get my hopes up too high.

Sadie’s dark eyes open and she looks at Micah first, and then at me. A soft smile plays on her lips, and I’m sure she’s feeling it too.

“Logan.” She says my name sweetly, and I can’t help it. I don’t care that I’m naked or that Micah’s here or that a half dozen other people are watching us too. I lean down and k**s her, and the same sparks I felt in our hands set fire to our lips too, making the k**s even better than it was before. And it was pretty damn good before.

“Is this for real?” I whisper to her as I pull back, my eyes searching hers for some clue about what’s happening.

She nods as she smiles at me. “Everything’s fixed now. Everything’s right. This is the way it’s supposed to be.”

Joy floods though me. Sadie is my mate. The girl who brought me out of my darkness is going to be mine, forever.

I’m so overwhelmed with happiness that I try to k**s her again, but she gently puts her hand on my chest to hold me back. “Just a minute, okay?”

Her eyes move to Micah for a second, and I think I understand. She wants to speak to him. I nod at her and get to my feet, taking a few steps away to address the wolves who are still with us. “The fighting’s over. Let’s get the injured and the dead to the hospital. Thank you all for your support tonight, it won’t be forgotten.”

I glance back down at Sadie and Micah, but they’re talking quietly and I don’t want to interrupt, so I move further away, checking in with the rest of the squads, making sure everything’s okay.

For the first time in a really long time, I feel like it is.
