"So, you wanted to go to the ball with them?" Elise Rosenthal's tone was immediately sharp the moment she heard her mother's suggestion. She stood up from her rocking chair, crossing the room to look outside the window. "Mother, you know I had no intention of exploring the world outside of the pack, especially when it involves the Royals."
Milina Rosenthal sighed, clearly exasperated with her daughter's resistance. "Elise, this is a one-time thing. Your father needs you to be there with him as a healer. As a Rosenthal."
Elise's jaw tightened. She turned to face her mother, her expression filled with irritation. "And what about you? Why aren't you going? Aren't you a Rosenthal too?" However, Elise already knew why. It was because her mother doesn't have the ability to heal. Milina shook her head, folding her arms. "I won't be attending. You and your father will be representing the Rosenthal family. There's no need for all of us to be there."
Elise huffed, frustration simmering inside her. "Father must be out of his mind. Why do we need to go to this? Do you have any idea how many people will be there? The King, Royals, the council and all sorts of manipulators looking to take advantage of us and our abilities? And for what? Is this just because of Fiona?"
The name left a bitter taste in her mouth. Her elder sister had been nothing but trouble, and now Elise was supposed to attend a Royal event to clean up her mess?
Since Elise was young, she had been taught to keep their abilities at the clan. Using their abilities outside of the Pack is only going to give them trouble.
Milina didn't flinch at Elise's sharp words. She simply looked at her daughter with a steady gaze. "This is what your father wants. It's not just about Fiona. It's about the family's reputation
Elise felt a surge of resentment flare up inside her. Fiona. Everything always came back to her. It wasn't enough that Fiona had caused a scandal by leaving her pack and marrying some prince. No, now Elise had to step into the lion's den because of her sister's reckless choices. What had Fiona ever done to deserve this much attention? She wasn't even that special. She couldn't use the family's healing ability like Elise could, so why was everyone so obsessed with her?
"Fiona's not even that important," Elise muttered, her voice edged with disdain. "She can't heal like I can. What's the point of going after her? It's not like she's going to be of any use to anyone." Milina remained silent for a moment, letting Elise's words hang in the air. Then, she spoke quietly but firmly. "This isn't about who's more important. Your father has made a decision, and we will respect it."
Elise bit the inside of her cheek, trying to hold back the storm of complaints building inside her. Of course, it's about Fiona, she thought bitterly. It's always about her. Fiona makes a mess, and the family is left cleaning it up. And now she has to go to a stupid ball, full of people who don't give a damn about their family except for what they can take from the Rosenthals.
She could feel her anger rising, directed inward at her sister. Why did Fiona always have to cause trouble for them? Why couldn't she just stay out of sight, out of mind? Elise had spent her whole life working to earn her place in the family, mastering her abilities and being the perfect daughter. And now because of Fiona's reckless behavior, she was being dragged into something dangerous, something she didn't want to be part of.
Damn Fiona, she cursed silently. "Why couldn't you just disappear and stop ruining things for the rest of us?" she mumbled. Milina's calm voice broke through Elise's thoughts. "Your father trusts you to handle this. And so do I."
Elise clenched her fists, wanting to argue more, but she knew it wouldn't matter. Her father's word was final. And no matter how much she despised Fiona or how much she hated this entire situation, she would have to go. She would have to play her paft for the sake of the family.
She looked back at her mother, her face set in a hard expression "Fine," she said through gritted teeth. "I'll go. But don't expect me to play nice with Fiona if she shows up." That is if that woman really had the guts to join the ball, Fiona's

cowardice was well known in the family. Elise knew that Fiona would not dare to join the ball knowing that Zach would be there. The woman simply wanted to run away from her problems and turn her back away from her family, from the clan. Milina simply nodded. "I expect you to do what's necessary."
Elise turned away, walking back to her chair. Inside, the resentment toward her sister burned hotter than ever. After what felt like forever, Elise got up and went to her father's study.
Elise entered her father's study, her eyes quickly scanning the room. It was a large space, filled with dark wooden shelves that stretched from floor to ceiling, each packed with books and documents. The heavy drapes kept most of the light out, giving the room a somber atmosphere. A thick, ornate rug covered the floor, and at the center of it all was Thomas Rosenthal's desk, cluttered with papers and ledgers.
Thomas sat behind the desk, reading a thick document. He looked up as Elise entered, his sharp eyes narrowing there something you need?" he asked, his voice calm but commanding- as always.
Elise sighed. "Father, do you have a moment to talk?"
Rghtly. "Is
Thomas lifted an eyebrow, clearly curious, but his expression soon shifted to a frown. He closed the document he was reading and gestured for Elise to sit. "Very well," he said. "Have a seat."
Elise sat down in the chair across from him, feeling a knot of tension in her chest. Thomas remained quiet for a moment, watching her with his usual stern gaze. He reached over to pour himself a cup of tea from the small set on his desk, offering some to Elise with a simple gesture.
"No, thank you," Elise declined, her tone flat.
Thomas took a slow sip of his tea before placing the cup down. "What is it you want to talk about?" he asked, getting straight to the point.
Elise took a deep breath. "I don't want to go to the palace," she began, her voice firm. "I don't see the point of seeing Fiona again. There's no reason for me to be there."
Almost immediately, her father's face darkened, his expression hardening into something much colder.
