The girls were gathered at the front of the ocean, staring across it as far as their limited vision could take them.

They made a sort of file at the lips of the ocean, two on a row. No one saying a word. All had their attention spent on things ahead. While some were carried away by the beauty of the ocean, some by its mystery, and some by the mountain range.

On the contrary, some were consumed by the fear of the possibility of getting to the mountain.

But none of the girls could tell what was going through the mind of the other unless they made words of their funny stares.

"Are you sure that we can make it even if we get a boat from the Cannibal?"

Tendzel made her fears known. The rest of the girls who had been looking for a medium to let out the pool of words went for it.

"I thought I was the only one thinking of how impossible this is. None of us have ever paddled a boat. We can't even do it, I'm sure of that. Why don't we face the truth and quit pretending to be whom we are not?"

"We could tell the Cannibal to take us there. He might be able to paddle the boat."

Mira had countered Jada who was always dismissive. It seemed as though Jada had taken the former traits of Claire. So it seemed.

"Take us there in what? Huh? Take us in what? Didn't you see what he was making? How could a boat look like a big fucking vase? What are we supposed to do with it, put flowers?"

Lisa laughed as soon as Allison stopped talking. Some of the girls joined in the joke for a while but then there was a pause.

"Let's stop being pathetic and dismissive. Those who went with me saw that the boat is still under construction. The Cannibal must know what he is doing? I mean, haven't you seen what they could do? Haven't you seen the houses which they built? Damn, I've not seen such structure made from wood ever in my life."

"Did you also give a blowjob to one too, eh Evelyn? You seem to fight for them a lot. I mean the Cannibals, or are you just trying to get on the good side of Ayisha and Claire. So you could be their handbag?" Jada had taken it out on Evelyn as soon as the latter found peace. Instead of being mad at what Jada said, Evelyn chuckled.

"At least I'm better than you, fake face. And my brain is more active than your plastic own... who knows, probably while getting work done on your face, the doctor mistakenly made a cut in your skull and brought out you brain... then replaced it with a camel's..."

Evelyn paused, shaking her head,

"No, not Camel's... a camel is wiser than you. Who knows... a goat's or armadillo's brain."

"You crazy bitch!!!"

Jada couldn't take the insult. She charged at Evelyn but Claire stepped in her way, then Laurette.

"You come for her. Let's see how good you are going through the both of us to get to her."

Claire staked a claim. Jada pretended not to care that the two were in her way, but then again she had a rethink and stopped.

"Look at them, bunch of retards."

"Not the r word, Jada."

Lisa called. Jada glared at Lisa, rolling her eyes.

"Who could had tell that Jada had this dark side? Who could had tell that all she had been doing before now is but charades."

"Now you shut the fuck up, Mira. Don't even start with me."

Mira wasn't ready to push it further. Not because she had been warned by the scary Jada. Well, it was quite hard to tell why Mira held back. But occasionally, Mira would glance at Laurette who would look away immediately.

"Have we had enough yet?"

Ayisha raised her voice. Even though not all the girls were ready to listen to her, yet they seemed to have no choice. As far as it seemed, none was ready to interrupt. Noticing that, Ayisha found a stance for herself.

"I agree with you, even though I didn't go to see the boat. Myself and few of the girls were watering the rice field. So you might be right about the shape of the boat, Allison."

She didn't hold her gaze for long on Allison. She didn't plan to. She looked away.

"But what other options do we have? Can we swim our way through the ocean? If we could do that, then it will be easy for us to get there."

She turned to the girls, looking from one girl to another.

"Who amongst you can swim across the ocean? You... You... You???"

As she pointed at them one after the other, some would tuck in their heads, some looked away, while some glared at her with the stop-pointing-that-fucking-finger-at-me-you-dumb-bitch kind of look.

"If there is none of us, then why do we love and keep dismissing the only option we have? Why do we keep trying so hard to bring out fault in it? I thought I we already grew out of our differences! Didn't we agree to let our differences go until we finish what we have started? Why are we again ---"

"Who told you that that is the only option?"

Tendzel cut her short. All attention went from her to Tendzel. Before either of them could say a word, Tendzel had continued, stepping forward.

"We could forget about going to the island! For why should we change our focus suddenly?! What was our focus in the first place, to leave the island!!! Isn't it!!! Then why are we..."

She took a quick pause. More like trying to contain her emotions. She continued,

"Have you thought about it? Why would he be avoiding us if he really is out there? Probably he got sick of us. Shouldn't we prove to him that we can live without him. Or did we know him all our lives before getting to where we are today...? Did we need his help?!"

She lowered her voice. She had been shouting,

"I mean, y'all can tell what you went through before you made it into the BMX group. Isn't that a super great hard work?! Why can't we use the same drive and passion to replace our way out of this shit hole?!" "Tendzel is right. I've been thinking about it too. What if we get to the island but couldn't replace him there? Haven't our efforts being blown into the air?"

Ayisha was stunned at who had just spoken. Claire.

"Let's cast a vote then."

Allison step forward.

"If you want to continue searching for Damien put up your hands."

Ayisha, Laurette and Evelyn put up their hands. When Mira noticed that Laurette's hand was up, she joined too.

"If you want us to worry only and work towards leaving this jungle, put up your hands."

The rest of the girls did, except Claire.

"There is no such as a fence here, Claire. Pick a side."

"Come and make me!!! Yen yen yen yen."

Claire mocked Allison. Allison knew too well not push it.

"Three girls for Damien, five for Nil. Claire automatically belongs to our gr ---"

"Laurette, Laurette..."

Mira called when she noticed her sister acting weird, her body shaking violently. Then Laurette slumped and fell, mouth foaming. Though quite late, Claire caught her head from bashing against the nearest a lone stone.

"Laurette!!!"

Mira rushed to her.
