Crimes of Cupidity (Heart Hassle Book 3)
Crimes of Cupidity: Chapter 53

My mates are at my side in an instant, pulling me and Lex to our feet, but my eyes stay locked on the Horned Hook.

“He…he jumped in front of me.”

I turn at the sound of Lex’s wobbly voice. She’s shaking from head to toe, her eyes wide with shock.

I move to take her hand, but she rushes forward and falls beside Belren. Whatever she replaces makes her cover her face with her hands and start to cry.

My eyes move up and lock onto the prince. He realizes his mistake at aiming for the wrong cupid and hitting the wrong person entirely, and his eyes move to meet mine.

There’s a moment there where we’re just staring at one each other as if no one else in the realm exists. It’s just him and me. The hater and the lover. The prince and the cupid. We both know that this is it. One of us won’t be walking away this time.

We move towards each other.

He collects magic in his hands.

I draw out a Love Arrow and have it notched faster than I blink. If I ever needed some luck powers, now would be the time. Just as I think it, my eyes tingle with power.

Come on lady luck stuff, don’t fail me now.

We both aim.

And then we let loose.

Time is slow and yet fast. I watch as his power comes hurtling for me, but my focus is on my own weapon. My eyes continue to tingle, until I can barely keep them open from the burn that takes over. But I keep my gaze locked on my arrow, and then I see it go straight through his heart.

I only get a heartbeat of satisfaction as I watch it pierce his flesh, black smoke and blood exploding on impact as it hits him full force.

But then his magic hits me full force, and I go careening backwards.

And then, everything goes black.
