Chapter 72

Meanwhile, in Jefferson Manor, Dorian thought that Jon would send a cook over within thirty minutes

after he called him. Even if he couldn’t do that, he could easily buy some food and come over.

Unexpectedly, no visitors rang the doorbell of Jefferson Manor even an hour later.

Due to the prolonged hunger, his stomach was already starting to hurt. Lying in a fetal position on the

couch, he called Jon’s number again. However, all he heard was, “We’re sorry. The number you’ve dialed is turned off. Please try again later…”

Dorian furrowed his brows and his eyes glinted coldly. What was Jon up to? He sat up in anger and wanted to walk out.

Just then, a sharp pain jolted through his stomach, and he grunted, bending his waist as his face contorted from the pain.

After taking two steps, he succumbed to the pain and fell to the floor. Lying on the clean, white tiles, he stared at the high ceiling with empty eyes.

When he was about to pass out from the pain, sounds came from the door. A few seconds later, Gisele walked through the door with a food container in her hand.

Before she could change into indoor sl*ppers, she found Dorian on the floor, curled up with a

She stared at him in stunned silence.

That day when the ruffians entered the house, she had no choice but to jump off the second floor. The

way he looked now reminded her of how she had to fold her limbs on the floor after that.

“G–Gisele?” Dorian was dizzy from the pain, but he tried his best to keep his eyes focused. To his dismay,

he couldn’t see anything besides double shadows.

Wiping the look off her face, Gisele walked over calmly and placed the food container on the coffee table. Then, she crouched down next to him and gently rested her slightly cold fingers on his wrist.

Dorian raised his head at her. He had never seen her read his pulse with such a serious expression.

Suddenly, he seemed to be able to see things clearly with his blurry eyes. Gisele appeared incredibly

serious as she read his pulse with her head lowered. Every move she made right now made his heart skip

a beat, and he stared at her, completely smitten.

Unaware of his gaze, Gisele placed her index finger on the pulse of his wrist. Her perfectly arched brows

furrowed, and dissatisfaction washed over her clean, small face.

A few minutes later, she released his hand and retrieved a small pill box from her pocket. There were at

least ten types of pills in it. She picked out two and fed them to Dorian.

As there wasn’t any water, he had to swallow the pills dry. In her arms, the familiar scent of herbs she always carried with her drifted into his nostrils.

As the slightly bitter pills dissolved in his m*uth, he couldn’t help but cringe, despite being usually

expressionless.

“How are you feeling? If you’re feeling better, get up and eat something,” Gisele urged, helping him to sit

Dorian pulled a long face as he left her embrace. Her scent faded as he pulled away from her embrace. Not caring about what was on his mind, Gisele stood up and opened the food container.

Then, she went to the kitchen to get some utensils, While scooping out the soup, she said, “Because there wasn’t much time, I prepared this using a high–pressure cooker. It may not taste so good but take some so your stomach is not empty. Later in the morning, get Jon to buy you breakfast.”

“Is that carrot and lentil soup?” Rising to his feet, Dorian walked over, and a look of disgust appeared on

his pale face.

Gisele passed him the soup and glanced at him nonchalantly. “You have to take it even if you don’t like it. This is good for the health of your spleen and stomach. It also helps with its recovery.”

Dorian sl*pped into a seat next to her and held the bowl. Stirring occasionally, he managed to finish the full bowl of soup after taking several small sips in the beginning.

Seeing how much pain he was in, Gisele couldn’t help but nag, “Your stomach issue has developed over time. Take more care of it after this, or maybe you can ask Ms. McMillan to treat it for you. If you don’t treat it now, it will develop into gastritis or even stomach cancer over time.”

Dorian’s hand which was holding the spoon paused mid–air, and he stared at her deeply. The words that Gisele wanted to say were stuck in her throat after she caught his gaze.

For the first few seconds, Gisele was able to hold his gaze, but she averted her gaze when she caught the cold, murderous look in his eyes.
