MARIANNE POV.

"Don't say a word to him yet, I would contact him and explain everything to him when I'm ready. Just act like you haven't heard from me yet," I told Sophia and she sighed.

"This is just too sudden, I don't know why I feel like you're still hiding the truth from me, you sound like someone who isn't at ease, like one who isn't free at all. Are you really telling me the truth?" Sophia asked and I bit my lower lips. I realized that if I keep on with this call, I might be induced to spill everything to her which I don't want to.

"Sophia, how can I make up something like this? I'm totally fine, I'm slowly beginning to adapt to things here." I said with a fake chuckle and she scoffed.

"We've been together for years and I know you better than anyone else. Do you realize you're making a huge decision that would determine how your..."

I interrupted her that instant, "I know, I understand your concern and I know it might sound too hard to believe but just know that I know what I'm doing and I would be fine. I would have to end the call now, don't call or message me, I would be the one to do that," I forewarned her.

"Now this isn't making sense anymore, I'm not allowed to even call you when I want? Marianne, were you kidnapped or what? Why should you be the one to call or text me? We need to always keep in touch with each other since we are now far away from each other. We need to talk about your upcoming wedding even though it's out of the blue it's going to be an important day in your life."

"Sophia, everything has been arranged already so you don't need to bother too much, I am fine. I just need you to grace my wedding occasion, that's all."

"Can you switch the call to a video call, I want to see your face and what the place you are looks like." Sophia requested and I gulped.

"No! I'm not available for video calls, you're going to see me when you come here."

"Why! I can't call, text or FaceTime you, I ..."

"Let's talk later Sophia, goodbye!" I immediately ended the call and switched off the phone.

I feel like a bad person right now but it's just for the best.

I sighed and hugged the phone, I miss Sophia.

We've really come a long way together and she was the one who helped me adapt to how things were operated in America when I just came. I can imagine how my absence is going to have a negative impact on her.

I contemplated calling Oliver or not. What was I even going to say when I called him? He is going to feel heartbroken if I tell him about my sudden marriage, telling him the truth would make him hunt down this place with the cops. That's like playing with fire because Giovanni, his son and the other members of this family are more dangerous than anything in this world.

I'm not going to contact him now, probably after my marriage with Ricardo.

Gosh! I can't believe I'm finally accepting my fate, I thought about it all night, there's really nothing I can do. I would only get on Giovanni's bad side if I tried to escape, I would surely get caught by that sky devil and his son.

I haven't set my eyes on my so-called mother today, it's better she even stays apart from me, I don't want to be crossing paths with her.

Suddenly, the door of the room I was in was pushed open and I had to hide my phone immediately. It turned out to be Isabella and I released a deep sigh.

"You should at least knock before you come in,"

"I'm sorry, the door wasn't closed so when I was about to knock, it just opened on its own."

"Whatever! It seems you've got something to tell me right?" I noticed from her facial expression and she nodded positively.

"Miss Emilia requests to see you,"

I raised my brows wondering who she was talking about. The first person that came to my head that instant was Ricardo's mistress but then, I could remember vividly that he called her 'Kathy'. "And who is that?"

"Under Boss's younger sister."

Oh! I totally forgot that I met Emilia at the engagement party, she excused herself all of a sudden and promised to come back but I didn't see her up till now.

"Oh really? Where is she at? Why didn't she come here?" I asked getting up from the bed to put on something nice.

I had actually pulled off my dress angrily after coming back from Ricardo's office.

"Not only that, Milady, you are going to have dinner with D'Onofrios' family mainly to discuss the upcoming event." Isabella added and my hands stopped when I was about to pick out a dress. "What did you just say?"

"Boss requested to have a family dinner with you, under Boss and Miss Emilia tonight." Isabella broke it down for me and I frowned.

Why? For what? How can I bear eating with the ones I detest with so much passion apart from Emilia?

I don't even want to imagine it, it feels like a disaster eating with them. I would have cold feet, would be very uncomfortable around them and then be eaten by so much hatred for them.

"I've been having my breakfast, lunch and dinner quietly in my room, why can't it remain that way? What else is there to discuss? They didn't carry me along during the preparation of the engagement party so they should do as they want for the useless wedding too!" I ranted and Isabel just kept staring blankly at me.

Why wouldn't she stare when she has no single idea of how I'm feeling right now?

I decided to put the thought of the dinner aside and just go see Emilia.

I just felt excited to see her because she looked like someone who was in the same age range as me and would also understand me better.

I just met her once and I like her already, she is the complete opposite of her father and brother. I still wonder if she is of Giovanni's blood. Let me not be too quick to judge, I haven't gotten to know her yet.

I got to the hallway where I met Emilia and we exchanged pleasantries, she then offered to take me on a tour around the mansion. She was really fun to be with and was just too sweet, she made me laugh a lot and we didn't talk about her brother or father so it wouldn't ruin the happy mood we were in.

As we talked further, I got to know she had been in this mansion all her life and had only taken online lessons and lessons from private tutors. She must have really had a boring life but it turns out she grew up to be a jovial and lovely lady. "I can see you're getting tired already, we still have other rooms and sections to explore but that will be tomorrow. I'm going to show you the library and some other places you might not like to see though," "What does that mean?"

"Don't worry, you will replace out tomorrow." She winked and walked ahead of me while I went after her.

"You just made me get more curious, are you talking about a..." I got interrupted by a loud gunshot that made me scream out loud.

I heard it again and I had to cling to Emilia who acted unbothered.

"What was that? Shouldn't we run for safety?" I asked her in a shaky voice and she sighed.

"It simply means someone didn't accomplish his or her mission or the target has been taken care of." Emilia suddenly says and it only took a few seconds for my brain to process and decipher her statement. My eyes widened in dismay.
