Chapter 29

Leo's

POV

I was waiting outside Amelia's guest room door, when I was drawn away by the sounds of a commotion downstairs in the foyer. I rush down, to see Alpha Craig standing between his Beta Jimmy and Zachary's brother Travis, while Luna Veronica and Elena stood behind Jimmy looking fearful. Craig saw me, and called for my help.

The two of us barely managed to hold back Jimmy, once Travis shouted out "Mine!", and Elena jumped into his arms and they immediately began kissing, hardly noticing the chaos they were causing. Luna Veronica took one look at Elena, rolled her eyes, and poked at her sons shoulder. Hard.

"You have exactly 35 minutes until I expect you outside on the back lawn!" She informs her son, then stalks off. She obviously had other places to be besides watching one of her younger sons love life unfold before her very eyes.

Then Amelia was heading down the stairs, looking like a dream in that tight fitting red dress that left nothing to the imagination. She easily got everyone's attention, and quickly got everyone more or less calmed down in time for her other boy toy alphas to join us in the foyer.

She starts flirting with them, which reminds Alpha Craig that he hasn't dressed for the event yet, having come straight from the Vancouver farmers market. Alpha Craig makes his excuses and quickly leaves, after getting Amelia's promise to save him a seat next to her. And that's when I saw it, and my heart nearly stopped.

The necklace I gave her on the day she turned 18. The day she knew I was her fated mate. I had known for several weeks before, and had bought it knowing she would be my mate.

It had been a crazy morning as usual, and I knew she'd be busy in the kitchens with serving breakfast. I waited until breakfast was pretty much over before I made my appearance, keeping the gift hidden in my room.

As soon as she scented me, we fell into each others arms and began kissing each other like we didn't even need air to exist. Then I told her I had a birthday gift waiting for her in my room. I'm sure she thought I meant something else, but I didn't want to spoil the surprise.

We head to my room, and sitting there in the middle of the bed is the little box, wrapped up in shiny pink paper and with a white bow.

"Oh, what is it?" She asks, a huge grin on her face.

"Open it and replace out!" I tell her, loving the excitement on her face. She rushed to my bed and picks up the little box, giving it a little shake, before she carefully removes the bow and the paper. Then she slowly opens the box, and gasps in surprise. "Thank you! No one has ever given me anything so beautiful before!" She says in awe, as she stares at the delicate little necklace for several moments. Then she asks for my help to put it on.

I stand behind her so close that my hard on is digging into her lovely a*s, as she raises her thick dark hair so I can do the clasp. She has such a gorgeous neck. I give a soft kiss to the spot on her neck where I'm supposed to mark her. I hear her breath hitch in anticipation. My wolf Lance urges me to do it. Not yet, I tell him. It's too soon.

Amelia turns around and asks me how it looks.

"You're beautiful," I reply.

She gives me a playful little shove and tells me that's not what she meant, but I can tell she's pleased. And we kiss.

I slowly remove every stitch of clothing we have on, leaving nothing but the necklace. I then worship her amazing body as no one has ever done. And then we made sweet love for hours, with the A of the necklace nestled between her breasts. I wanted us to stay like that forever. And I swore to myself that I would never forget our first time together.

Ahem, Lance gently coughs in my head, you are acting stranger than normal, even for a human!

I suddenly come back to my senses, realizing that I'm holding the necklace in my hand and everyone is staring at my odd behavior. A look of concern on Amelia's face, as I realized I'm way too close to her. An unintelligible sound escapes from me, and I let go of the necklace. Then I race out of the pack house like my pants were on fire. I can't believe I just did that!

I lean up against the building, and bury my face in my hands. Goddess I'm such a moron! I'm cracking up, or something.

One thing is certain, though. It doesn't matter that we no longer have a mate bond. It doesn't matter that Amelia has several other suitors vying for her affection. It doesn't matter that she thinks of me as "just a friend" now, and that I've probably lost her love forever.

I still love her. And I doubt that will ever change, even if Moon Goddess gives me a second chance mate.

I manage to pull myself together just in time to see the others heading towards the back lawn for the ceremony that will begin in about 15 minutes. I step in behind, and I don't look anyone in the eye. I just ignore anyone who looks in my direction. Beta Jackson and Gamma Desiree of Bull Run have joined us. We replace seats around the middle of the crowd, Amelia and Alpha Jerome sitting next to each other with an empty seat to her left for Alpha Craig. I sit directly behind her, with Gamma Desiree to my right just behind her Alpha, and my Alpha Derrick is to my left with Jackson in the next seat.

With Amelias hair down like that, I can't help replaying that day over again in my head, as she lifted her hair out of the way for me. And I sincerely regret that I didn't mark her that day when I had the chance. Or any of the days that followed.
