Chapter 9

After hearing of my father’s death, Arthur only scoffed derisively.

“Where has he been all this time? Does he think dying clears his debts? So many workers are relying on that money to live. What about Travis’ life, and the life of the worker who was killed? Can he ever make that right?”

I tried everything to explain it to Arthur.

But he never listened to me.

“Chloe, you’re a vile woman, just like your father. Your attempt to tarnish Travis makes you even more repulsive!

“The ones who should be dead are your whole family! Amanda suffered the most because of you!”

But…

Arthur, did you ever consider if my father was such a man, why didn’t the police replace that huge sum in his account after he died?

Fortunately, I was dead.

I won’t trouble you anymore.

You could be with Amanda without any worries.

Chris just quietly stood beside Arthur, staring at the file in his hand.

They were at an impasse.

It wasn’t until Chris asked him.

“Arthur, have you ever thought, what if the one who died was really Chloe? What good does hindering our investigation do? Does it benefit the killer to remain at large?”

Arthur froze in place.

His hand was clutching the file folder spasmed, his knuckles whitening from the force.

He trembled as he opened the folder.

Inside were all my medical records from the hospital.

They showed that six months ago, I had surgery on my left leg, and three months ago,

I was diagnosed as pregnant..

Arthur was shocked, his entire body shaking uncontrollably, and his breathing quickened.

So, dear Arthur, you remember that, don’t you?
