Shirley swallowed hard, feeling as if a mountain were pressing down on her, rendering her immobile.

But Abner didn't give her a chance to escape, pulling her close to him.

"Is it that guy, Horace? How long have you known each other that you're already official?"

How did he know about Horace?

Shirley's heart raced. Could it mean he had been paying attention to her all along without her knowing?

Yet, such a thought seemed far too wild to voice.

She wasn't the young Shirley anymore.

And Abner was still in his prime. She had to think about the future.

She nodded, unable to meet his gaze.

"Just made it official."

As soon as she spoke, Abner's hand was on her chin. "Have you guys, you know, done the deed?"

Shirley's eyes widened in disbelief at his forwardness.

A flush spread across her cheeks, her tongue tying in knots.

"Abner, come on, I'm thirty. You don't seriously think I've never been with a man, do you?"

After blurting that out, she felt a sense of regret, as if she'd lost control.

They were both too carried away tonight, delving into such risqué territory.

It was downright shameful.

Abner held her closer, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"So, you're not then?"

"Yeah."

Shirley's mind was a mess, a voice inside her pleading to stop. She hadn't been with anyone, yet why was she pretending to be so experienced? "Shirley, let's go upstairs. Teach me."

Shirley fell silent, her ears burning. "That's something your girlfriend should teach you."

"I don't have a girlfriend."

Shirley was stunned, and the next thing she knew, they were heading to her room.

As soon as they entered the living room, Abner kissed her with a passion that left her breathless and unable to move.

She tried to pull away out of instinct.

But Abner held her waist tight, not allowing her to escape.

"Not so experienced after all, huh? Can't handle it?"

Shirley's words faltered. "I...I just need a moment to mentally prepare."

Truth be told, she didn't mind it being Abner. She wasn't at a loss.

But she feared his impulsive actions, worried he might regret it in the morning.

She looked down, a bitter smile on her lips. Getting old, considering a one-night stand and overthinking it.

Maybe deep down, she cared about Abner more than she admitted, scared of being discarded after giving herself to him.

Abner scooped her up, heading to her bedroom with a familiarity that surprised her.

Shirley closed her eyes, bracing herself mentally.

It's okay, she thought. Even if he leaves after tonight, she couldn't complain.

She was six years his senior, more mature. Tonight's chaos was under her consent, she had no right to expect more.

Entering the room, Abner could feel her tenseness, her inexperience.

Shirley clutched the sheets, turning her head away when he questioned.

"Why so tight?"

Her heart pounded, the pain unmistakable, but she dared not show it.

"Must be your imagination, probably."

Seeing her pretending to be strong, Abner chuckled softly, kissing her again. "Really? Shirley, how many boyfriends have you had over the years?" ""Lost count."

After her response, she felt his grip tighten, her face paling momentarily. She couldn't hold back a whimper, pushing against his chest lightly.

"Go easy."

"To think you can't even handle this. Looks like the men before me were quite the letdown."
