Chapter 270

When she hit the pavement under the towering Raymond Corporation building and entered the lobby,

she found Rita on reception duty.

Rita spotted her, and a frown instantly took over her face, but she continued showing off to her

colleague.

“Yeah, this was bought for me by Ryan Elston, worth over a hundred thousand dollars, enough to buy a

car. I really can’t bear to part with it.”

Since Rita started dating Ryan, her colleagues have all been aware of it, and at this moment, everyone

envied her.

Being a receptionist, especially a receptionist at the Raymond Corporation, everyone was pretty easy

on the eyes. Most folks hoped to rub elbows with the higher–ups of the Raymond Corporation, but no

one had the luck like Rita, who dated Mr. Raymond’s cousin. If they stuck it out, she could marry into

serious wealth.

On top of that, Ryan was a generous guy. He’d gifted her several necklaces worth over a hundred

grand. Rumor had it there was a Maserati worth three hundred grand in the mix too. Rita was living like

a princess.

As she flaunted her bracelet, Rita went on.

“Ryan and I are the real deal. I’m not like some women, always pining for something better and ending

up with nothing. Greed gets you nowhere. Ryan likes me because I’m straightforward.”

As she said this, she glanced at Maja, who was passing by.

If she were to marry Ryan, she really didn’t want Maja to have any lingering ties to the Raymond family.

She had even shot a text to Maureen Raymond last time, implying that if Mr. Raymond had taken an

interest in the designer, he must be bored by

now.

Rita chuckled coldly and went back to showing off to her colleagues.

Maja knew Rita was taking a dig at her, but she chose to ignore it; after all, she did mess up last time.

Since Rita had helped her out with the medicines, she figured she shouldn’t be bugged.

Seeing Maja step into the elevator, Rita couldn’t help but smirk.

Today Ms. Shepard was also at the Raymond Corporation. Maja was heading upstairs and would likely

bump into Ms. Shepard. She wondered how Mr. Raymond would handle this.

A designer trying to marry Mr. Raymond? What a joke.

Ever since Rita started dating Ryan, she felt like she was part of the gentry and looked down on

everyone.

Her receptionist salary of over a thousand dollars seemed unbearably dull.

Ryan’s casual gifts of bracelets and necklaces worth over a hundred grand made her realize she’d

have to wait forever to afford such luxuries herself. Best to keep Ryan close and live the high life.

Rita smirked, hoping Maja would make a fool of herself soon and stay out of Ryan’s life for good.

When Maja reached the top floor, she couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was off that day.

Usually, everyone was all business, but now, they were sneakily stealing glances toward Mr.

Raymond’s office.

Dana looked up as Maja approached, then snickered, “Back to see Mr. Raymond again?” She didn’t try

to stop Maja like before.

Not wanting to waste time, Maja knocked on the office door.

Dana watched Maja’s retreating figure, delighted because Carlene was still in there, and the designer

was in for an awkward surprise.

She chuckled softly, itching to see the drama unfold.

“Come in.”

lan’s voice echoed from inside.

Maja pushed open the door and stepped in.

“Mr. Raymond.”

As she called out and looked up, she noticed Carlene sitting beside lan.

Carlene’s seat seemed to have been moved from elsewhere and was now right next to him, asking him

something.

Maja didn’t expect Carlene to be there; she recognized her.

“If it’s not a good time, I can return in the afternoon.”

Her face was unreadable; besides the initial surprise when she opened the door, she showed no other

emotion.

lan’s hand tightened around his pen but didn’t push Carlene away. “If you have something to say, say it

now. I have a meeting this afternoon.”
