Chapter 539

Maja wasn’t bold enough to call for a divorce just yet, and the reason was all about Holden.

Holden was the greatest ally Maja had in the Raymond family. He had trusted her from the start even helping the

Pennyfeather family get through their first round of financing.

Later on, the Raymond family came through again for the Pennyfeather group during the second round of

financing. Frankly, if Maja were to divorce lan on the spot, it would look heartless and ungrateful.

Therefore, she proposed a three–month deadline, as somewhat of a courtesy to Holden.

On the other hand, Neil’s health was on the decline, and three months was his limit.

She had to keep the Pennyfeather family business afloat, as a promise to Neil.

Only after she’d made peace with these two aspects could she leave with a clear conscience.

Maja rubbed her forehead and thought about the child from the Pennyfeather family who was left stranded. Neil

hoped she could replace that child, but when she investigated in Crystalbrook Valley, she couldn’t replace any results.

Given her current abilities, it was unrealistic to unravel a story from over 20 years ago in just three months.

All she could do was try her best.

She gave Zoey a call, saying she’d be going to the bidding scene the following day.

The next moming, knowing she’d bump into Carlene and her crew, Maja put on a hat, sunglasses, a mask, and wore

several layers to maintain a similar figure to her previous appearance.

Her coat was oversized, covering both hands, so no one could see her injured hand.

Upon arriving at the scene, there were even a handful of reporters hanging around.

But the bidding amount wasn’t huge, just a couple of billion at most, so it wasn’t causing a great stir.

Only when big companies bid for land did it make the news on repeat.

Maja and Zoey walked in, and instantly saw Carlene not far away.

Carlene was surrounded by several senior members from the EverBest Group, looking mighty impressive.

On Maja’s side, since the Pennyfeather group was still unsettled and the senior employees arrangement was yet to

be finalized, only she and Zoey were present.

As soon as they sat down, laughter came from the EverBest Group’s direction.

Maja pretended not to hear anything, leaning back quietly in her chair.

Carlene gave her a cold stare, as if trying to see through her hat and mask.

But Maja had covered herself too well today, her clothing style also different from usual, so apart from her figure,

there was nothing else to see.

Carlene scoffed, and out of the comer of Maja’s eye, she saw a man walk in. It was lan.

She was taken aback.

Carlene immediately stood up and walked towards lan.

“lan, over here.”

lan, bringing no one with him, walked in low–key.

The surrounding media didn’t dare to film him, immediately shifting their cameras away as he entered.

lan didn’t glance at Maja’s spot, heading straight for Carlene’s side.

There was a name tag in front of Maja, with one in front of each company. The Pennyfeather family had the least.

She frowned. Hadn’t lan said he wouldn’t tell Carlene the truth about this piece of land?

Why had he shown up at the bidding site himself?

Did he really have that much spare time?

She had thought his departure last night was like going to face a trial, but it seemed he was unaffected.

After sitting down, lan asked Carlene, “When can I get the item after the bid ends?”

His appearance was due to Carlene’s request. She wanted him to accompany her through the bidding, after which

she would give him the gift from Eric.

“Join me for a meal after the bidding, and I’ll hand it to you. lan, how could I dare to deceive you?”

lan didn’t respond. He had no interest in this bid, his eyes slightly squinted.

Carlene glanced at Maja, the comer of her mouth curling up in a cold smile.

Seeing her own husband appear on the competitor’s side, what would she feel right now?

The host hadn’t arrived yet, and waiters were serving coffee and water. The companies participating in the bid

were chatting with each other, trying to figure out each other’s bottom line.

Carlene stood up and tugged at lan, slowly walking towards Maja.

lan wasn’t a fan of such behavior, but thinking of Eric’s item, he held back.

Upon reaching Maja, Carlene looked at her and said, “Ms. Pennyfeather, we didn’t formally meet last time. I’m

Carlene from the EverBest Group. This man next to me is the president of the Raymond Corporation. I think you

know who he is, right?”

Maja adjusted her mask, her hat pulled low, not even an eyebrow in sight.

Zoey stood up from the side, giving them a slight smile..

“Ms. Pennyfeather has a cold today and her throat isn’t too great. Wouldn’t be nice to pass it on to you.”

A hint of displeasure appeared in Carlene’s eyes. “Why is she always sick?”

lan’s eyes flashed across that face, which indeed seemed to be always sick.

A trace of displeasure flashed in his eyes, and he moved to return to his spot, but was held back by Carlene.

“lan, with Ms. Pennyfeather’s poor health, we should show more concern.”
