Chapter 640

Maja bumped into lan’s car on her drive back from the hospital.

lan’s car was parked by an alley, its windows shattered to pieces.

Her heart started to pound rapidly.

Maja quickly dialed lan’s number, but there was no reply.

She then called Jeff, who told her that lan planned to drive back to the hotel on his own that night.

In a hurry, Maja got out of her car. After a moment of thought, she decided to venture deeper into the alley.

The far end of the alley was damp, there were flickering lights, obviously neglected for years.

There were men lying on the ground, their blood pooling together.

Maja’s legs gave out as a bullet whizzed past her.

Frozen in place, she waited until a man slowly emerged from the shadows. She leaned against the wall, standing

under the flickering streetlamp.

The bullet had grazed her hair and embedded itself in the wall behind her.

Maja was too shocked to even speak, especially when she saw that the man with the gun was lan!

He seemed surprised to see her there.

By the time he realized it was her, the bullet had already strayed from its intended path. Otherwise, she would have

been dead..

lan frowned, strode over, gave her a once–over to confirm she was just scared by the sight of the bodies, and then

blurted out, “What are you doing here?” “Mr. Raymond, are you hurt?”

lan stiffened, his grip on the gun tightening.

This woman was strange. The scene was horrifying, a sea of blood, she herself had nearly been shot, yet she was

asking if he was hurt.

Most people would’ve screamed at the sight, maybe even thought he was a cold–blooded killer.

lan found that amusing, lit a cigarette, and laughed.

Maja stood still. The nauseating smell of blood had indeed shaken her, but she had an idea why lan was being

targeted.

Right now, only the Raymond family knew about lan’s injury. The other members of the Raymond family were up to

no good, especially Carl Raymond and Dennis Raymond. They were hoping for lan to step down from his position as

CEO of the Raymond Corporation. That was the perfect opportunity to take him out.

Plus, lan had lost his memory and didn’t trust Jeff anymore.

Maja leaned against the wall, even worrying that lan might want to kill her.

But he didn’t. He just flicked his cigarette onto one of the dead bodies and approached her.

Maja had nowhere to run, the light above her seemed to darken.

The next second, her chin was lifted by the barrel of a gun.

She didn’t know if the gun was loaded, didn’t dare to move, she could even feel the heat from the gun’s muzzle.

Maja swallowed hard, looking up at lan.

lan’s gaze fell on her chest, recalling something Ryan had said.

Had he buried his face in her chest before?

lan’s hostility completely disappeared.

Maja noticed his gaze and instinctively covered herself.

“Mr. Raymond.”

lan lifted his head again, looked at her face, and asked, “Why did I kiss you before?”

Maja couldn’t answer that question.

Could it be because he liked her?

lan had said he liked her once, but who knew if he really meant it or not?

The barrel of the gun slowly moved down, sliding over Maja’s neck.

Her scarf slipped from her neck and fell to the ground. Maja shivered from the cold.

Yet the gun kept moving, pressing against her chest, pushing her clothes down slightly to reveal what was

underneath.

Maja’s fingers trembled, wondering if the next second would bring a bullet through her chest.
