Chapter 719
Chapter 719
She took a seat and glanced at her watch. It was 7:20. Ian would probably show up in about ten minutes.
The lighting on this floor was a bit dim. She turned her head to look at the night view outside the window, her
thoughts drifting.
This might be the most normal Christmas she had had in years.
She didn’t expect to spend it with lan.
The feeling was quite peculiar.
She wasn’t sure how much time had passed by when she pulled out her phone to check the time. It was already 8
o’clock, but lan had not yet arrived.
A waiter came over and asked if she wanted to start her meal.
She gave a little smile and replied, “No need, someone’s still on the way.”
The waiter had no choice but to retreat.
When 9 o’clock rolled around, Maja was starting to get hungry. She furrowed her brows. Ian didn’t seem like the
type to be late.
She couldn’t help but try to reach out to him. lan picked up.
“Penny, what’s up?”
His tone was a bit gentle, which made Maja wonder if he had forgotten their dinner date.
Maybe he was stuck in traffic.
“Mr. Raymond, where are you?”
lan was still in the hospital bed. After waking up, the doctor had been conducting brain scans on him, saying that he
had fully recovered.
He remembered past events, but the recent shock had made him forget that he had asked Maja to be his girlfriend
and their dinner date. But he remembered his past with Maja.
Hearing her question, he was a bit surprised, “Did I make plans with you tonight?”
Maja’s heart turned cold, her fingers trembling slightly.
If it wasn’t for the seriousness in lan’s voice, she would have thought the man she had been sweetly dating was just
a figment of her imagination. She opened her mouth but couldn’t say a word.
After a while, she forced a laugh, “No, just wanted to say, Merry Christmas.”
lan chuckled lightly, suddenly wanting to see her, but he knew that he needed to rest.
Maja hung up the phone first, looking at the still burning–candle, her eyes growing cold.
The waiter came over again to ask if he could serve the food.
“Just bring it.”
The waiter sighed in relief and immediately brought out the tray.
The food was arranged for two people, beautifully plated.
She slowly finished her portion, looking out at the night view again. The waiter told her, “All expenses for tonight
have already been covered. Miss, there will also be fireworks later. Hope you can stay here till then to witness that.”
Spending Christmas night alone, eating alone, watching fireworks alone, she felt a bitter taste in her nose.
At 10 o’clock, the fireworks went up on schedule, lighting up the entire night sky. It looked very luxurious, costing at
least hundreds of thousands of dollars.
All of Maja’s loneliness was dispelled by that bright display. She watched quietly until the fireworks disappeared.
By the time she left, it was already midnight.
She was supposed to be facing lan; his meal was still on the table, now cold.
She picked up her bag and left the building alone.
She got into a taxi, not choosing to return to Greenfield Gardens but instead going back to Rosewood Manor.
Neither seemed like home to her.
lan sat on his bed, feeling restless as if he had forgotten something.
The doctor had conducted a series of checks on him, confirming he was fine, before indicating that he could leave.
lan stood up, and Steve asked him, “Do you have a date tonight?”
He was taken aback. Today was Christmas, and he usually worked overtime at the company on this day. He didn’t
have time to go back to the Raymond Mansion for a party, let alone a date.
But thinking about Penny’s call, he furrowed his brows.
When he left the place, he called Jeff.
The first thing Jeff said was, “Boss, the fireworks are over. Are you satisfied with the arrangement?”
lan raised an eyebrow, “Who did I make plans to watch the fireworks with?”
“Ms. Penny. Didn’t you guys make plans this morning? You even reserved the whole restaurant.”
lan’s heart tightened. He rubbed his brow.
“Send me the location of the restaurant.”
Without any suspicion, Jeff immediately sent it over.
Ian drove there himself, but by the time he arrived, the fireworks were already over.
It was one in the morning. The restaurant was open because of his reservation.
He walked over to the specially arranged table and saw the cold food. He immediately called Maja.
