Chapter 913

Tyler hastily handed lan the paper cup filled with warm water from the table.

“Still hung up on her, huh? You’ve been out for half a month, and she hasn’t visited you once.”

lan’s brow furrowed as his lips bore dried blood, a clear sign of severe dehydration.

His skin was unnaturally pale, and he appeared much thinner. He stared out of the window with a gloomy look in his

eyes, looking rather lonely. “Really?”

He couldn’t believe it. Was Maja heartless?

“Well, what’d you expect? You know where you stand with her.”

lan was instantly reminded of something she once said. Clearly, he wasn’t even as significant to her ex as a

fingernail.

He knew this very well, but he just didn’t want to accept it.

He also knew she was cold–hearted and calm, but he didn’t expect her to be so ruthless.

Their story was always like this. One moment, they might be in each other’s arms, and the next, Maja could say

something hurtful.

All the life–and–death situations they went through together and the emotions they felt fighting side by side seemed

fleeting now.

He really didn’t understand how people could be so heartless.

His eyes began to redden, as if covered by a layer of thick fog, just like a swamp.

Seeing him like this, all Tyler could do was stand behind him.

“That’s why I’ve always said, why bother with love? It only causes you pain.”

Perhaps fearing lan might lose his cool, so he quickly added,

“Once you’re better, you can pick any woman you fancy. Lately, many people have been asking about you, from

the socialites in the capital to those in the entertainment industry. If you like beautiful women, I can replace you

someone even more attractive than Maja, so you can even switch them up every day. Remember Darlene? You had

something with her once, and you were happy then, weren’t you?”

lan felt tired, not just tired, but his chest also ached. He didn’t know if it was due to the gunshot wound or a heart

problem.

All in all, he was in so much pain that he was breaking out in a cold sweat.

He didn’t know Maja’s room was right next to his, so he never thought of getting up to see her. After hearing Tyler’s

words, all he wanted to do was go back to sleep.

At this moment, Fitch came to visit him, bringing some food.

He called a nurse over and set up a small dining table in front of lan. He put the food on the table, then told him

about the results of the recent investigation.

“This is linked to overseas forces. In the half–month you’ve been unconscious, we’ve practically combed through

that mountain. Those tunnels were originally used by locals to hide bodies. Their culture is to put bodies in coffins

and bury them in the mountainside, a tradition that has lasted over a hundred years, so there are more and more

tunnels. But after an earthquake ten years ago, all the villagers left after receiving compensation, leaving the

tunnels behind. They were later expanded and renovated, turning into what you saw. There is surveillance

everywhere, and once you go in, it’s hard to replace your way out. The outermost door requires a password, and if it’s

wrong, you could be trapped in there for life unless you jump off a cliff.”

lan vaguely remembered that Maja was holding him at the time. His vision was blurry, but he could see her blood–

soaked fingers constantly trying to enter the password.

The first password was wrong, as was the second. Did the door finally open on the last try?

He also heard a mechanical female voice saying, “Password correct.”

So, how did Maja know the password for that door?

lan lowered his head, his eyebrows knitted. He realized that even if Maja was smart, the permutations of a six–digit

password were too many. It was not possible to succeed after a few tries.

‘lan, my subordinates found that the password door had been deliberately destroyed when they entered those

tunnels later. It was blown open with a lot of explosives. The explosives combined with the earthquake probably

caused the landslide. The other party might have known we were going to investigate, so they destroyed everything

in advance, obliterating all evidence.”

lan’s head was a bit fuzzy. He leaned against the wall, looking pale and sickly.

Fitch asked him, “Did you replace anything else in there?”

Other than Maja cracking the password, there was nothing else.

But he didn’t tell Fitch this. Fitch was very serious about these things.

If he knew Maja might be related to these overseas forces, then Maja would definitely be under full surveillance,

and it would be difficult for her to

live a peaceful life.

He found it a little Ironic. Even at this point, he was still hiding things for Maja.

“Nothing.”

“Why would they want to capture Maja?”

Maja was just an ordinary person who got lucky and got involved with the Raymond family. Was it to use her to

frame lan?

This explanation seemed plausible.

lan picked up the spoon, his hand still weak. He tried to grip the spoon to eat slowly.

But the spoon suddenly dropped into the bowl.

He frowned, trying to grip his hand again, but he was too weak to hold the spoon.

Seeing this, Fitch wanted to call a nurse to feed him.

After all, one man feeding another man looked a bit strange.

But then he remembered: Maja was in the next room, wasn’t she?
