Chapter 961

With eyes squinted, an aura of calm sophistication emanated from lan as he surveyed the room.

“Dennis, did getting kicked by me the last time scramble your brains? How else would you think you could pull the

strings on me today?”

At his words, Dennis‘ face instantly soured. He had once deeply humiliated Maja, only to be knocked out cold by lan.

And at that moment, that incident was brought

up again just to humiliate him. Unable to admit the reason he’d been kicked, Dennis could only suffer in silence.

lan pushed open the door to the boardroom, Jeff faithfully following behind. While he didn’t really know what

strategy lan had in mind, he had complete trust in him that he would figure something out in a short while.

As they approached, he heard lan murmur in a voice that only the two of them could hear.

“If they take me in for questioning, make sure Maja knows.”

Jeff looked up in surprise. Inform Ms. Pennyfeather? But this was a matter within the Raymond family. What could

Ms. Pennyfeather even do other than worry about his safety?

A realization struck him, and Jeff quickly understood. That would be a test for her to see if she truly cared about him

in times of trouble. Perhaps, the CEO wanted to see Ms. Pennyfeather’s concern.

At that moment, the CEO was not clear about Ms. Pennyfeather’s feelings, not knowing if she truly cared about him

or not..

So why not test it? Let her know about his predicament within the Raymond family. Would she choose to help, or

quickly distance herself from him?

If Maja chose the former, showing–concern for lan’s situation at that critical moment and even attempting to help

him, wouldn’t that be the expression of her love towards him?

And if she chose to distance herself, then perhaps lan would take a different approach. If he couldn’t win her heart,

then he would ensure that she lost her freedom, binding her to him.

Having followed lan for many years, Jeff quickly understood the implications. So, he nodded, “Understood, sir.”

Just as the boardroom door swung open, a few policemen in unique uniforms arrived. They were all members of a

special task force…

Those men flashed their badges and then nodded at lan.

“Mr. Raymond, we need you to accompany us for further investigation.”

-Everyone in the boardroom sprang to their feet. Those who cared about lan immediately moved forward.

“What do we do, sir?”

lan’s voice was calm as he followed the task force members, telling his supporters, “Just do what you have to do.”

The others looked at each other in confusion while Dennis took the lead, asking, “lan, are you still refusing to sign

that agreement?”

lan ignored his words and stepped into the elevator.

Dennis‘ face twisted in anger, his hand slowly curling into a fist. What game was lan playing that he couldn’t figure

out?

The members turned to the rest of the Raymond family, their expressions stern.

“Do all of you believe he’s responsible for Holden’s kidnapping?”

Dennis was the first to agree, “He’s after our father’s shares.”

Maureen nodded in agreement, followed by the rest of the Raymond family.

“It has to be him, who else could do such a thing.”

“You need to re–investigate his brother’s case.”

“He’s the most ruthless in the Raymond family.”

Only Ryan stood apart, his eyes wide as he exclaimed, “My cousin would never do such a thing.”

He walked over to lan, taking large strides.

“Cousin, I’ll go with you.”

“Ryan!”

Maureen’s face became pale as she was full of anger. Ian was at that moment the main suspect. If he was

somehow found guilty, Ryan, who was showing his support for him, could also become an accomplice.

“Ryan, come back!”

She rushed forward, reaching out to grab Ryan, pleading in her voice.

“Don’t you understand? Everything I’m doing is for you.”

Ryan paused, then gave a bitter smile as he said, “Mom, I may not be successful, but I know right from wrong. You

taught me that it was okay to not be able, but sticking to principles was the most important thing. I remember your

teachings, but you’ve changed a lot. I don’t need your good intentions.”

He stood next to lan, taking a deep breath.

“I believe my cousin didn’t do this. The police will soon uncover the truth, and when they do, I’ll return with him.”

Before he could finish, lan blocked the closing elevator doors, his voice cold, “Out!”

“Cousin.”

Ryan had always been afraid of him. At his command, he almost instinctively moved out. But then he realized, “I’m

not leaving.”

As the officers entered the elevator, lan pushed Ryan out.

The elevator doors closed at that moment.

Ryan stood outside, hearing Maureen’s cold voice

“See? That’s how emotionless he is! That’s why he must be responsible for what happened to your grandfather!

Ryan didn’t bother explaining the situation to her, knowing his cousin didn’t want him to be isolated by those people.
