Chapter 967

Jeff wanted to stick up for Maja, but he was clueless as to why she left the town at that moment.

He had to admit that he was a bit let down. He’d hoped Maja would hang in there longer, even if she couldn’t lend

any help, her mere presence was a testament to her affection for the CEO.

But her timing for throwing in the towel made one question whether she’d ever truly harbored feelings for lan.

The room fell silent, and lan gazed out of the window where darkness had already set in.

That night, a lot of folks wouldn’t fall asleep.

Many were keeping tabs on the events of the Raymond family, perhaps, many were also concerned about lan’s

fate.

Would the once arrogant lan finally meet his defeat?

Everyone was hoping for time to speed up, except for lan, ‘who was constantly eyeing the clock on the wall, his

gaze growing heavier by the day.

A day later, Maja had driven to that town. Having lost her way, she’d wasted an afternoon, and by the time she had

arrived, it was already evening.

She made a call to the number that had texted her.

They didn’t pick up, so she found a hotel.

At seven in the evening, she once again dialed the number, and that time the call connected for a few seconds, but

was quickly hung up.

She sat by the window, overlooking a river that meandered through the entire town, a few boats floating on the

water.

The town filled with rustic charm, had drawn in a fair share of tourists in recent years.

After an hour, Maja’s phone buzzed. She’d received a text with the name of a store.

She immediately grabbed the ring and letter, stood up, and began asking locals for directions to the store.

Upon replaceing it, she followed the waiter into the courtyard of the store.

In the courtyard stood a large tree, big enough to shade the entire yard, with ribbons intertwined around the

branches, used for making wishes.

In the modern world, such a scene was incredibly beautiful.

From the moment Maja stepped through the door, she felt as if she’d entered another realm.

Under the tree, a figure stood in the shadows, a silhouette barely discernible.

Maja opened her mouth to call out, but then remembered, that person was no longer the one who had once

encouraged her to study and paint.

He had broken their pact and disappeared for six years.

Their attitudes towards each other had also changed significantly.

Therefore, she lowered her eyes, walked closer, and politely called out, “Patric.”

The man didn’t turn around, as if he hadn’t heard her.

Maja furrowed her brows, about to say something when the man turned around.

His face was more mature than she remembered, but equally gentle.

Maja was speechless, remembering how she’d cried over the letter, and now she found herself laughing.

“It’s been a while, Patric.”

Eric sighed, reached out, and lightly ruffled her hair as he said, “Come with me.”

With that, he turned and walked towards a corner.

Maja was a bit taken aback, but quickly followed.

Dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, he looked young and gentle as ever, but his demeanor had changed.

After they’d walked a few hundred meters, he suddenly stopped.

He softly called out, “Maja.”

But what he saw was the ring Maja had handed him.

Maja lowered her lashes, reminiscent of the little girl who had cried by the lake missing her mother.

That was their first meeting.

Eric was silent, merely listening as she said, “Thank you for the letter, but the agreed time has passed, I can’t

accept this gift.”

A gift from a man who had once stirred her heart. Ian’s jealousy would definitely be sparked.

Once back in Greenfield, she needed to reconsider their relationship.

She needed to tell the whole thing to Beck.

She had to take that step.

Suddenly, Eric lowered his head, whispered something into her ear, and then quickly left.

He’d said, “Take good care of that little thing.”

He was referring to the chip, the size of a fingernail.

Maja didn’t bring it with her

She wanted to ask what it was, but Eric’s expression changed.

He said, “Maja, don’t go back to Greenfield for now, rest here for a few days.”

“But,” before she could finish, she smelled a floral scent, and then she fainted.

A deep male voice echoed.

“Eric, you’re biased. You want her to cut ties with lan, don’t you?”

“You think I’m like you?”

“You love her, right? Love is selfish, so you won’t let her be with lan. You met her first, and lan can’t compare to you

in any way. How could he deserve such a beautiful woman? Maja should be yours.”
