Chapter 75 The Greedy Mother
Colton stifled his laughter, moving off to the side with his phone in hand.
“Colt…” Elsa’s voice, filled with utmost grievance, rang out. “Today is our engagement banquet! How much longer do you plan to leave me here alone?”
Colton glanced back at Cynthia and Luna, his voice slightly heavy. “Once the results are out, I’ll head back.”
With a hint of probing, Elsa asked, “Couldn’t Cynthia manage on her own? Why does she specifically need you by her side?”
“If I had known it would be like this, I would have preferred never to have met you,” cried Elsa.
After a moment of silence, Colton said lightly, “I understand. I’ll be back soon.”
For the first time, he found himself growing weary of discussing the past with Elsa.
Colton walked up to Luna, looking down at her from his towering height. “What your brother told you is all lies,” he said. “I’m not a bad person.
After he finished speaking, he gave Cynthia a deep, lingering look before finally turning around to leave.
As soon as he reached the elevator, he bumped into the head nurse, who was hurriedly carrying an incubator and walking briskly. As she walked, she was instructing someone on the side, “This child has Rh–negative blood. Be extremely careful during the transfusion. If anything goes wrong, you’ll have to answer to Mr. Collings.”
Colton paused momentarily, but before he could ponder further, he had already driven back to the banquet hall.
Initially, the absence of Phillip from the engagement banquet had already sparked a fair amount of speculation. With Colton’s sudden departure, Elsa faced a considerable amount of overt ridicule, especially from those who had long disapproved of her actions.
Elsa was nearly driven to her wit’s end by their sarcastic remarks. Just as she was about to fall out with them, Colton returned.
She rushed up to Colton, her voice tinged with a sense of injustice. “Colt, just because you left with them, I…”
Colton cast a casual glance at the crowd, causing them to disperse in disappointment. Only the dissatisfied Elsa remained.

“Are you letting them leave just like that?” Elsa looked at Colton in disbelief. “I am your wife now. Their duplicity toward me is a direct affront to Zeller Group…”
“They don’t have the guts.” Colton calmly looked at Elsa. “I remember you used to advise me not to bother with those people.”
In the past, when people gossiped about Cynthia, Elsa would always advise Colton to take it easy, saying that those people were just speaking thoughtlessly. But then, with a change in circumstances, her attitude had become entirely different.
For a moment, Elsa was at a loss for words. She quickly tried to explain, “I just felt that those people were being incredibly disrespectful to our engagement banquet…”
Colton remained noncommittal, and soon enough, someone approached to strike up a conversation, abruptly ending the dialogue between the two.
Elsa wore a somber expression. As she lifted her gaze, she noticed someone not too far off subtly waving at her.
It turned out to be Agnes.
Elsa was taken aback, her face drained of color. She quickly glanced around, swiftly pulling the person into a storage room. “How did you get here?” she asked.
Her records had always indicated that both her parents were working abroad and couldn’t make it back. It was even more crucial that neither Colton nor Cynthia discovered Agnes‘ existence.
Looking at Elsa, elegantly dressed in her expensive gown, Agnes pursed her lips. “Today is the auspicious day of my daughter’s engagement. What’s wrong with me coming to see?”
Upon hearing her words, Elsa scoffed. “Are you sure now is the time to discuss our relationship?”
Upon being exposed, Agnes chuckled awkwardly and made a gesture of counting money. “Well, I thought you should have a betrothal gift for your engagement. As your mother, shouldn’t I get a share?”
Upon seeing Agnes‘ true colors, Elsa wished nothing more than to give her a good slap across the face.
She had done everything in her power to marry into the Zeller family, but before she could. even replace her footing, Agnes had already started causing trouble.
Just as she was about to voice her refusal, she suddenly recalled what Agnes had said that day. “I can give you some money, but didn’t you mention before that you had a way to deal with. Cynthia?” Elsa asked.

Immediately, Agnes understood and chuckled. “I knew all along that you would come to me for help…”
As she spoke, she once again mimicked the action of counting money.
