Deja Vu
Chapter 16

~Present~

"You have to buy her a flower!" Itsuki told Adam for the thousandth time.

It was the day of the masquerade part, but Adam was the gentleman type to buy his girls flowers.

"I've never bought anyone flowers!" He told Itsuki.

"But Irene's different. You told me that a million times yourself!" He reasoned. "C'mon, mate. Who knows. You might get lucky tonight." He winked.

"Oh, God." Adam sighed because of Itsuki's stupid and dirty thoughts. "Fine!"

"That's my boy!" Itsuki grinned and clapped his hand hardly on Adam's back, making him choke.

Adam knocked on Irene's bedroom's door, waiting for her respond.

Just a few moments later Irene opened her door with a smile. Adam's jaw dropped slightly when she saw Irene in a dress, her golden hair held into a tight bun.

"You look dashing!" She said, looking at Adam who was in his black suit, his hair tidier that his usual messy state.

"And you look... Er... raveling." He struggled to say those mere words.

"You mean ravishing?" Irene giggles.

"Uh... Yes! That's the word!" said Adam. "Wait... No! What I meant was that... You look gorgeous."

"Thank you."

Adam cleared his throat to save himself from gazing more creepily at Irene. "Well, shall we go?"

"Sure." Irene smiled and took Adam's hand, heading downstairs.

The two got in the car, none of them uttering a single word as neither could contain their goody smiled and grin. Adam glances at her once in a while, catching her glancing at him.

"You're starting." He said, his eyes on the road.

"I'm gazing."

"It's creepy!"

"It's romantic!" Irene retorted and they both fell into laughter. But Adam's smile faded away when Irene raised her hand and placed it on his knee.

His heart was struggling to break his ribcage and run away, beating fast.

As the car neared the college, Adam and Irene wore their masks and Adam parked the car in a corner.

He got out of the car, opening Irene's door quickly afterwards.

"Thank you." Irene muttered.

Adam simpered at Irene's beautiful usual manner, raising his arm for her to take, and so the two of them walked gracefully toward the entrance door.

Adam couldn't do anything to wipe that smile off his face, and Irene kept looking at it in awe.

She didn't understand it. She couldn't understand the feeling that was going inside her cold heart. She had no idea why her entire body was heating and getting warmer at the very touch of Adam Peterson's.

Was it love? Irene thought in horror, but then she shook the thought away.

Love was the one thing that could keep her away from her mission, and she could not allow that to happen.

But no matter how hard she tried, Irene couldn't deny how good she felt as she looked at his smile, knowing that its reason was her.

A storm was going on in her stomach, and yet she'd never felt warmer before.

In fact, she had never felt warm before in her life.

How was it possible?

Irene then felt something weird. Something that should never had happened.

Swallowing hard, she raised her hand and placed her palm against her chest. Her eyes widened in horror...

Her heart was beating.

But then she remembered something that merely added to her horror.

Looking up at the bright moon, she realized that in two days, the moon was going to turn into its fullest form.

She only had two days...

But how was it possible to fulfill her mission when all of a sudden she was feeling this way?

She knew she had to ignore it. But how was it possible to avoid such pureness? How could she ignore her beating heart or the overwhelming feeling of warmth?

But she had waiting so many years... How could she ruin it all after so long, for such a worthless matter?

So she shook her head again, walking inside.

Even though she insisted many times that she didn't know how to dance, that didn't stop Adam from dragging her to the dance floor.

"Do you want a drink?" Adam offered, as he was getting himself one as well.

"No, I'm fine. But thank you." Irene smiled.

Even her smile felt weird.

It felt real.

But at last, after many dances and laughter, the night ended and the two returned to Adam's little lake-house.

The whole drive back the house, Irene avoided any conversation or even glance at Adam's direction and answered him only with yes or no.

She had to make up her mind...

When their car finally stopped in front of the house, Adam prevented Irene from getting inside, and insisted on her to join her for a walk.

"I just... Wanted to tell something."

Adam spoke, finally stopping the walked and taking Irene's hands.

"I know it hasn't been long that I know you... But I can't help how I'm feeling."

"Adam, don't–"

"–Please let me finish. I can't help how I'm feeling about you, Irene."

Irene tried to stop him, but he beat her into it.

"I love you." He finally said what Irene feared.

And then it happened. Adam slowly leaned in and connected his lips with Irene's, taking it to the next step of Irene's plans.
