RYAN

I let Ilay teleport me back to the pack house and ran into my bedroom.

I had to think of something fast before she marked that demon, too. With his mark, my hell would be secured forever.

Ragnol was right, I would go after him again, but not like this, I wasn't going to rip the heart out of an innocent soul. 'Eleonora? I need your help urgently.' I said to her and not two seconds later she appeared.

"You called, Alpha." She said, looking at me with her emotionless eyes. I nodded slightly, "I need your help urgently, it's about my mate who has a demon for a companion. She and I are connected to his life force because we brought her back from the dead." I explained to her.

She nodded "Yes, the rumors are going around fast, if I do say so myself." She said and smiled slightly.

"Fine by me, I want to get rid of this demon though.... Now you have to help me. Because I don't know how to go about it. I thought we'd get help from Ragnol." I finally said.

Her pupils became tiny and I had the feeling that her heart stopped beating for a moment.

"You must never go to Ragnol! There are good reasons why he was banished by Helena. He performed black magic, which is strictly forbidden... Hands off it, Alpha..." Eleonora said clearly.

"So that means you know Helena?" I asked, frowning and looking at her.

She nodded slightly: "She's a distant relative of mine, maybe we can ask for help from her, but not from Ragnol... He'll end up cursing you." Eleonora swallowed. And apparently she was completely serious.

I nodded understandably. Her statement was very clear. No Ragnol.

"What are my chances of getting rid of this demon anyway?" I asked her, pinching the bridge of my nose.

She shrugged her shoulders "Actually, your chances are very slim, especially since he is also her companion, but nothing is impossible..." Eleonora said, biting her lower lip.

"Give me your hand." She demanded and I gave it to her as ordered. She pulled a small knife out of her pocket and made a cut in my palm. She said some words and suddenly went quiet. All I could hear was the crackling of the fire in the fireplace. Suddenly the windows in my room slammed open and a strong gust of wind almost knocked us both off balance.

A silver-haired woman with icy blue eyes appeared in front of us. She was very petite, had high cheekbones and her eye sockets were hard to miss. Her eyes were so blue that my blood ran cold. She smiled dangerously at us. Was that Helena? I asked myself and as if she could read my mind, she nodded slightly.

"Indeed, I am Helena." She said and came closer to me.

I didn't know how to respond and looked at Eleonora through clenched teeth. "You can read my mind?" I asked cautiously.

She shook her head with a laugh "No, my dear. The question was written all over your face." She replied and dropped onto my bed.

"Well, tell me why you're disturbing me during my siesta." She said, looking at me in particular.

Eleonora stepped closer to her. "I'm sorry, Helena. My friend here is in a tricky situation and needs your advice." Eleonora said, bowing her head to her.

Helena waved her hand: "No formalities, dear, we're out of the Middle Ages. Then why don't you tell me about your tricky situation, Alpha?" She scrutinized me from head to toe as if I were a piece of meat.

Damn, Ryan, what's wrong with you. She's just a witch. Stand, your man.

I straightened up and nodded, "My mate, she's part demon and she met her mate. Due to her taking her own life, we had to reawaken her and are now all bonded to the demon. She can't reject any of us, so I thought you might have another solution." I said.

She nodded "Yeah and the part about you visiting Ragnol, of course you're not telling me..." she said, frowning.

"Never go to Dimitri again, let alone Ragnol. Do you understand me?" She told me with a serious look. I nodded slightly, "Does the heart we gave Dimitri have any effect on all of us?" I asked her cautiously.

She nodded slightly, "You gave him life force and strengthened him. I had to rob him of this so that he wouldn't do any harm." She said and stood up again.

"As for your problem, I have a solution, but you won't like it." She finally said and looked at me without batting an eyelid.

"What's that?"

"You must have heard about Dimitris, lover?" She asked me.

I nodded slightly, "Well, yes..."

"Well? She was hidden by me. I never killed her, as Dimitri claims. I can do the same with the demon, but there's a price to pay." She finally said, shrugging her shoulders. "Your companion will think he has died, but the truth is that he will be trapped and will never get out." Helena explained to me.

I nodded in understanding and wondered what the high price would be.

"A pure heart..." she finally said.

I had to pause at her words and couldn't give her a proper answer.

"N-no, I've been through this shit before. I'm not going to rip anyone's heart out... Damn, what are you obsessed with these hearts? I said angrily and stomped around the room.

Helena laughed and looked at me pityingly, "What's it all about? It gives us primal witches, primal vampires, even the primal wolves life energy, which we desperately need because we can't steal any of these hearts ourselves. They don't count if we do. However, I suggest that you think it over carefully for the first time and contact me again with the heart once you have made up your mind. Agreed?"

She came closer to me "Even if you think it might work... She lost a part of herself to that demon. She will also lose the rest and what's left for you to him. Demons are evil beings, even if they don't seem that way." She whispered in my ear and made my hair stand on end.

Apparently Helena knew exactly what she was talking about at that moment. It was the change I had noticed in Catherine.

I swallowed hard and nodded slightly "I'll sleep on it for a night... It's all going over my head to make a decision at short notice." I said to her.

She nodded understandably "To prevent your plan from being discovered, I will cast a spell on your thoughts as long as the demon is not locked up. He will never get wind of it. However, you must be careful of your companion, if she replaces out, she will lose all trust in you, Alpha." Helena mumbled a few words that I couldn't understand and then disappeared again.

I looked at Eleonora with wide eyes and had to sit down for the first time.

I exhaled deeply. Could I kill an innocent woman again? Was I capable of doing it again after that stunt with Julieth? What if Catherine got wind of it? I had pulled the ass card in every respect.

What would I even do to a grieving Catherine, who was also pregnant? Could I do that to her?

Helena had now also put me on a kind of alert, and the fact that Catherine was more distant from me was obvious to any blind person with a walking stick.

Especially as I had Ilay on my cheek for life? Hell, no. The only positive thing was that he kept his hands off Cate for the first time while she was pregnant. There was no way I could stand him after that. This is going to be my personal hell and then what the hell am I going to tell my kid? Hey, your mom is screwing her second husband when she doesn't feel like it?

God damn it. I couldn't get comfortable with that thought. I really couldn't. I had to get rid of Ilay as soon as possible, because a future with HIM was not a good thing.

I always liked to play the bad boy, but I still had the alpha in me who didn't want to share his mate.

'What do you think?' I asked Onyx, who was following everything closely.

'What do I mean? 'Take this guy down...' he said with complete conviction.

How was I supposed to hunt this guy down when I had a hundred other problems to deal with?

I sighed in frustration and plopped down on my bed. Eleonora said nothing and just watched me. "You can go Eleonora, I'll get back to you as soon as I've decided what I'm going to do." I instructed her. She nodded and finally disappeared.

Helena also made a strange impression on me, even though Eleonora had warned me about Ragnol - she didn't really look innocent.

On the contrary. There was something creepy and strange about her that I couldn't describe. I only hoped that I could trust Eleonora's advice.

I bit my lower lip and wondered where Tristan was now. I could do with a true friend to talk to right now.

'Tristan?'

'Elephant hunting club, we kill what roars, how can I be of service?" joked Tristan.

He forced a grin. 'Fancy a game of pool and a glass of bourbon?

'I thought you'd never ask again... I was so worried you hadn't been devoured by a demon. Meet me in the hobby room?' He asked me.

'I'll be right there,' I finally said and got up.

I walked out of my room and took the stairs down to our hobby room. This room was equipped with all kinds of things, including our pool table.

Tristan was already waiting for me with a glass in his hand and handed it to me.

"How are you?" I asked him. His injuries had put him out of action at the time, which was a tough act to follow. I took my glass from him and leaned against the table.

He nodded slightly: "I'm fine so far, I'm training with the others again now, even if I feel like an old bag." I shook my head with a laugh: "You're not an old git, Tristan. The chances of me dying before you are higher" I finally said and took the first blow.

"Oh, that was a good one." Tristan said and took the next blow.

"I don't know how to explain all this to you... I'm in deep shit, Tristan." I glared at him and exhaled. Talking to Tristan was like taking a load off my mind.

"Shoot, I always have an open ear for you." he said, smiling at me.

I nodded slightly "You've already met Ilay. In a nutshell: I want to get rid of him." I said, biting my lower lip.

He looked at me with a furrowed brow "Is that even possible?" he asked me, irritated.

I nodded slightly "Yes... But the way it's done is terrible...

You may still remember Julieth?" I asked him.

He nodded at my confirmation. "Well, to make Ilay disappear, I have to get the Grand Witch Helena a pure woman's heart..." I whispered softly and looked around me as if there were more ears in the room.

Tristan's eyes narrowed. "Do you really want to do this, Ryan?" he finally asked me, placing the pool cue on the table.

I shrugged and paced around the room, lost. "What choice do I have, Tristan? Do you think I'm going to agree to get along with this demon for life? Just the thought of him being with Cate now is crushing my mood." I said in frustration and took a sip of the bourbon.

Tristan nodded slightly "I can understand you, Ryan, but you're forgetting your own principles... That's the devil talking inside you, you wouldn't hurt a fly and here you are again talking about ripping an innocent man's heart out? The last time, it only worked because Ilay did it... Are you even capable of doing something so vicious?"

I looked at Tristan and didn't know what to say anymore.

Was I even capable of doing something that bad?

To take the life of an innocent person?
