Destined To A Rejected One -
Chapter 14
FIRST MISSION
One moon later
The moon was already rising in the sky, the night was cold, silent and frightening for the human women of the city of Kiruna, located in Sweden. About six months ago, Sweden asked the government of Reykjavik (Iceland) for help, who in turn did not want to put their men in danger either, transferring the request to the government of Murmansk (Russia), as they were the ones working directly with Mari Van Helsing.
Margaret finally released to Occisor the books that covered everything about the lycanthropes, from the brothers vying for the title of ruler of the moon, to the beginning of the race’s hunting and enslavement of humans.
Occisor – Mari caught the eye of the young man silently eating his rare servant meat.
He, still chewing, looked at the red-eyed woman and raised an eyebrow.
Margareth – Mari also caught the eye of the young woman sitting next to him.
Margareth was also quietly eating her boiled sweet potatoes, she started to pay attention when she heard Mari call her name.
The government has already sent the next mission. Margaret, you’ll be staying here alone for a week or so. I’ll take Occisor with me.
Why can’t I go with you?
I want to assess how Occisor is going to solve this case.
Where is he and what is he? – he asks as he swallows the piece of meat.
It will be in the city of Kiruna in Sweden.
It’s a long way from here, so why such a far-flung mission?
Eight months ago, a serial killer started prowling around that city. He targets young girls between the ages of fifteen and seventeen. He tortures them, rapes them and then kills them by dismembering them.
What a despicable being… – Margaret felt the bile rise in her throat as she imagined the scene of suffering the women had to go through.
He’s smart, good at fighting and can shoot very well. Many policemen died in his pursuit. And they saw no choice but to ask our government for help, which means this case is now ours.
But Mari, what is this city like? Isn’t it dangerous for…
That city is known as the dark and eternal polar night.
What does that mean? – Occisor asked with furrowed brows.
Mari always found the expression he makes when he doesn’t know something endearing, it’s the only time he sees it as a puppy that still needs to be protected.
The sun is not present there, except, of course, during the months of May and July. Otherwise, it’s only at night. I’m in no danger of getting sick in that city.
So it’s like here.
Yes, there are not many inhabitants, the houses are made of wood. There’s no base there either, we’ll have to stay in an inn.
The reason they live in Murmansk is that the sun rises only fifty-three days a year. The cold is perfect for Mari, whose body is naturally icy. After all, as she herself says, she is a walking corpse.
I don’t want to go to that ….
I’ve already told you what happens if you refuse, I don’t want to have to hunt you down, torture you and only then kill you.
While one race rejects me, the other wants to enslave me. I don’t know the difference,” his appetite disappeared and Occisor left a little less than half of the meat on his plate, dragged his chair back and stood up.
Aren’t you going to finish eating? – asked Margaret, looking at the young man’s back.
I’m not hungry anymore.
He replied without stopping walking and walked out of the kitchen, leaving the two women alone.
Are you sure it’s a good idea to take him with you?
Mari sighed, Occisor is becoming a complicated creature. She understood the anger at being rejected, and the disgust that in order to live he had to be a slave to the will of humans, a weak and opportunistic race.
However, Mari didn’t feel that way, perhaps because she has human origins, she takes pleasure in defending good humans.
I just don’t want him to become my enemy,” Mari confesses in a very low voice, but Margaret could hear her very well.
When are you going?
Tonight, I just need to talk to….
Let me talk to him. You’d better get ready,” Margaret smiles and Mari reciprocates, feeling relieved.
Thank you.
Margaret nods positively and gets up from the table and leaves the kitchen, walking down the hallway until she reaches the room she shared with Occisor. The door is open and she replaces Occisor lying face down with his arm over his eyes. He walks slowly and sits on the end of the bed.
What do you want? – he asks impatiently.
Mari, he is saddened by your attitudes. You should…
I know, but I can’t be like before. In my heart… There’s only hatred and anger… And now… This anger goes beyond my own kind.
Margaret sighs, unlike Mari, she doesn’t understand what Occisor feels. For her he should be grateful that he is alive and can do the right thing, which is: kill the evil beings, which are all supernaturals and criminals, and with that protect the humans, giving them a safe and happy life.
In my opinion, you are being childish, selfish and spoiled. Mari does everything for you, she went against the government so she could raise you…. She cooks for you, teaches you how to fight and you just thank her with rudeness. Being grateful is not being a slave. There is a big difference.
You don’t know how I feel, life isn’t….
How do you think I got here, you think life is hard only for you? – From his trembling lips comes a frustrated smile, he shakes his head in the negative, feeling a cake in his throat – You’ve never had to watch someone being devoured in front of you! You don’t know the pain of having your hopes stolen, the b***d and the smell of death, you …. You don’t know what those girls have been through How they felt as their bodies were violated…. And the family members… You don’t know… – Tears were already flowing uncontrollably from the redhead’s eyes, as she closed her eyes tightly and clenched her hands into a fist.
Margaret’s words took Occisor by surprise, he never bothered to think why Margaret hated wolves so much, why she was also raised by a vampire. And he finally realised that he is not the only one who suffers from the cruelty of the world. With a tightness in his chest, and wet eyes he sits on the bed and hugs his sister tightly, rests his head on her shoulder and lets a tear run down.
You’re right, forgive me… There are a lot of things I still don’t know that I never imagined… I focused so much on my own feelings that I didn’t take into account the feelings of others… – A sob escapes Margaret’s lips and Occisor tightens his arms even tighter around her. But… I can’t be like before.
Just… Don’t forget that we’re a family… Don’t forget what Mari taught us. Be a good son… Even if you don’t see her as a mother.
Occisor didn’t say anything back, just held his sister in his arms and only released her when the cake in his own throat crumbled. Margaret wiped her tear-soaked face with the back of her hand.
You need to pack your things, you’re travelling tonight.
I’ve already packed – Mari finally revealed her presence.
Pride dominated her brain. Seeing them hugging, united, apologising, understanding each other’s pain, was something sublime for a mother. The children were united.
So we’d better get going, Margaret can’t be alone for long, who knows what stupid things she might do.
Hey, I’m here! – he protested and patted the youngest on the shoulder.
They all laughed, it had been a long time since they had interacted like that. Like a loving family.
Take care of yourself, okay? – Mari hugs Margaret and k****s her forehead affectionately.
Take care of yourselves and kill that bastard. Bring peace to those people.
I will,” Ocisor smiles at her and turns away.
Mari does the same and the two leave the base. The cold wind whistled in Occisor’s face and he just grimaced.
Take it,” Mari held out a real fur coat.
O… Thank you – he put it on and felt very comfortable – When will we get there?
Get on my back.
Why?
Because you don’t transform, in human form you won’t be able to keep up with me, we’ll be there in forty-five minutes at the most.
Occisor’s eyes widen, how could they get to another country in only forty-five minutes?
Let’s go.
Occisor sighs defeated and climbs onto the woman’s back.
You’d better hang on,” Mari smiles and then starts running.
All Occisor can see are blurs, the icy wind burns his eyes and he is forced to close them. The ringing in his ear is annoying, but he doesn’t dare open his mouth to complain about anything.
Occisor was so distracted keeping warm that he didn’t notice the passage of time, only realising they had reached their destination when Mari shook him.
Where are we staying?
Right there, in the last house in the village.
They started walking, the snowy road lit by the lamps in front of the gates, the houses all closed, implying that this place was haunted. The smell of fear was evident to both of them.
When they arrived at the inn, they both went straight to their rooms, there was no one at the reception, and finally Occisor breathed a sigh of relief.
And so, I need more details about this serial killer.
Mari smiled, she hoped he would want to get started right away.
He likes to act in the early hours of the morning, he usually invades houses armed and does his crimes in front of the family, not caring if there are children or not.
We’ll need a decoy.
Mari looks at him with pride, sure to be another feared Van Helsing on the face of this earth.
