Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover -
Chapter 592
Opening the ornate wooden box, Chloe found an emerald bracelet nestled inside. The emerald was of exceptional quality, its vibrant green hue glowing against the light. Yet, it was encased in a gold setting a curious choice, as anyone in the know would tell you that top- notch emeralds should never be set in gold. It diminishes their integrity and slashes their value, unless, of course, the bracelet was already broken.
In Riverbrook's high society, there was an unwritten rule: wearing a broken bracelet at a wedding was considered a major faux pas. Chloe had chosen this gift deliberately, a subtle jab meant to ruffle Linda's feathers. Connor, standing by her side, thought it was a bit childish but couldn't deny it was also a convenient coincidence. Chloe hadn't planned on giving a gift at all until she accidentally broke the bracelet a few days prior. On a whim, she decided to wrap it up and present it to Linda.
Linda, however, seemed unfazed. Her face didn't darken as Chloe had anticipated. Instead, she simply smiled, slid the bracelet onto her wrist, and said, "Thank you for the gift, I really love it."
Chloe was taken aback. Linda had been unusually composed lately, not letting anything get under her skin. Connor, on the other hand, was observing Linda closely, his brow furrowed with suspicion. He had a hunch about Linda's intentions, yet he couldn't pinpoint them. Watching Linda's content expression only deepened his concerns.
Connor tightened his hold on Chloe, who was tucked under his arm. "Where's Antonio?" he asked. "The wedding's about to start. Why has the groom left the bride all alone?"
Linda shrugged nonchalantly. "He's just handling something. He'll be here soon." She checked her watch. "You two should replace your seats. The ceremony's about to kick off."
Turning to Chloe, Linda added, "I'll need you to bring the rings up later." As Linda's bridesmaid, Chloe was expected to handle the rings during the ceremony. It was a straightforward task, but Chloe found it rather mundane.
Settling into her seat beside Connor, Chloe seemed lost in thought. Connor noticed and asked, "What's on your mind?"
Chloe turned to him, "Don't you think Linda's acting a bit odd today?"
Connor snorted, "I've always thought she was a bit off."
"How so?" Chloe pressed.

Connor kept his thoughts to himself. He knew Chloe wouldn't believe him if he voiced his suspicions, and it might even shake her worldview. Better to keep quiet and see how things played out. "I doubt she asked you to be her bridesmaid without a reason. Just keep your wits about you today."
Chloe nodded, already on the same page. "Do you think she's trying to set me up, make me look bad in front of everyone?"
Connor didn't answer, but he didn't
think that was Linda's plan. Chloe pulled out her phone and chuckled. "See this Shannon's number. I've got Shannon staying at the hotel downstairs. If Linda tries anything, I'll make sure this wedding turns into a real spectacle."
Shannon, Linda's mother, was infamous for causing a scene. Chloe knew if she unleashed Shannon, the wedding would become a circus. But she preferred to avoid that. After all, it would reflect poorly on the
Moncada family as weltfter all,
wouldn't strike first, but if Linda made a move, Chloe was ready to retaliate.
Connor grinned, "Now I see why you said you wanted me to watch the show."
Just then, Connor's phone buzzed. It was Lucas calling. Connor picked up immediately.
"Congrats, Mr. Connor! From all of us at Paradise Resort, we wish you and your bride a lifetime of happiness."
Connor rarely spoke so much, but his good mood was evident. Lucas paused before continuing, "Mr. Connor, I'm in lounge room 1009. I'd like to have a private word with you."
