As her thoughts drifted, a hint of irony flickered in her eyes. "Yeah, it's not her first rodeo with murder."

Connor couldn't shake the feeling that Ricky taking Lisa hostage was more than just a coincidence, especially after watching the surveillance footage. He noticed Lisa deliberately inching closer to Ricky when his cover was blown. Then, out of nowhere, she toppled right in front of him. It was just too perfectly timed.

Connor's expression turned icy. "Are you suggesting Ricky and Lisa were in cahoots, and Lisa hired a hitman?"

The thought hadn't even crossed Connor's mind. To him, Lisa was just a foolish clown, a bumbling fool. Sure, her antics were normal, but murder? Did she really have the guts for that? And what did Chloe mean by saying it wasn't Lisa's first time involved in something like this? Suddenly, something clicked for Connor. He grabbed his phone. "Lisa's already skipped town, and she's got plenty of people vouching for her. She's wiped the slate clean. I'm calling Chief Thompson to dig deeper. If she's really involved, I'll make sure she pays - even after death."

A sharp determination flashed in Connor's eyes. He had expected some drama at the wedding but never imagined it would end in tragedy. In a society that prides itself on law and order, someone had the audacity to commit murder in broad daylight. It was mind-boggling. But it also served as a wake-up call. Initially, he suspected Claire. It seemed like her kind of chaos. But he hadn't pegged it on Lisa, the so-called simpleton. He had seriously underestimated her.

Chloe didn't know how Lisa managed to dodge the blame. Yet, she had a hunch. Ricky's death had Lisa's fingerprints all over it. She had orchestrated the whole thing: getting Ricky to kill, then framing him to make it look like a guilt-driven suicide. Nobody knew about their connection.

Chloe suddenly gripped Connor's hand. "Leave Lisa to me."

A steely resolve glinted in Chloe's

eyes. "Hauling her in now would only tip her off. Don't forget, she's got backing. Remember three years ago? With the poisoning? Anthony found someone to take the fall for her. Even if she did this, they cover for her. Besides, to pull off something like this, she must have cleaned up well, leaving hardly any trace."

Chloe's voice steadied. "Let her bask in her victory for a bit. I'll handle her. I'll be the one to knock her off her high horse."

Chloe had been camped at the

hospital these past few days, keeping vigil. Linda remained in a coma, surrounded by guards Connor had stationed out of sheer fear. Antonio and Tara had dropped by a couple of times, visibly shaken and a bit bewildered. They couldn't fathom why Linda would take a bullet for Chloe. Weren't they supposed to be bitter enemies?

Lucas, on the other hand, had been a shadow of himself, sitting outside the ICU, neither eating nor drinking, lost in thought. During this time, Linda had been revived twice due to heart failure, each time with a grim prognosis. Despite being brought back, she showed no signs of waking. The doctor had bluntly told the Moncada family to brace

themselves for the worst.
