Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover -
Chapter 736
Chloe was still a bit out of it, but her nerves finally eased. Before long, everyone was getting along like old friends. Chloe thought this crowd was a blast. By the end of the night, she kind of wished she'd come around sooner.
Chloe ended up drinking quite a bit, mostly because Edgar was relentless with the drinks. He kept pushing her to have more, and eventually, she got tipsy enough to start drinking straight from the bottle without any prodding. There's just something about meeting new people and hitting it off right away. Everyone was having a ball, and predictably, many of them ended up quite plastered. Grant was the only one who stayed sober, as he never drank. He took charge, called rides, and made sure everyone got home safely.
Soon, Chloe was the last one left in the room, slumped over the dining table, seemingly asleep. Grant walked over, gave her a gentle nudge on the shoulder, and said, "Chloe?" She didn't stir. So, without much fuss, Grant bent down and said, "I'll get you home," scooping her up with ease.
Just as they reached the door, someone stepped in their way. Grant looked up and met eyes with the newcomer, "Mr. Connor?"
Connor had been swamped at work all day. It was his first day on the job, and Claire had already tried to make things difficult. Even though she'd lost her VP position, she was still a big shareholder at Sartori Corporation. She'd set up a morning meeting, orchestrating it so that many shareholders would push back against the launch of the DreamMakerAl project. Some even suggested reinstating her as VP. It was a long, grueling day, and Connor was beat.
After the meeting, Connor tried calling Chloe, but she didn't pick up. Worried, he decided to drop by himself. He was surprised to replace Grant carrying Chloe out as soon as he got there. His brow furrowed, "What's going on here?"
Grant replied coolly, "She's just drunk."
Connor stepped forward, ready to
take Chloe from Grant's arms, but Grant didn't seem keen on letting go at first. Connor wrapped his arm around Chloe's waist, meeting Grant's gaze with a sharp look. Grant eventually relented.
In Connor's arms, Chloe seemed even more at ease. She snuggled closer, like a content cat, replaceing a comfy spot to keep snoozing. Connor said, "Mr. Grant, even thou you're Chloe's friend, I'd appreciate it if you didn't let her drink so much next time."
Grant, with a flat tone, replied, "She's an adult, and I'd hope you wouldn't control her too much."
"She's my wife, so of course, I have the right to look out for her."
"She's an independent person first and foremost, with every right to make her own choices."
The two stood at an impasse. Connor chuckled dryly, "These days, you never know people's true intentions. Someone might just take advantage of her when she's out cold."
Then, with a hint of sarcasm, he added, "Not that I mean you, Mr. Grant. I'm sure you're a gentleman."
