Connor was holding on by a thread, just curious to see how far Claire would actually go. Would she really go through with it and end his life herself? But her actions finally shattered the last bit of hope he clung to. That hope was why he could never fully turn his back on

her all these years. He couldn't quite grasp how someone could be so heartless.

"Chloe, even a tiger doesn't eat its cubs, right?" Connor's voice was thick with emotion, and Chloe felt a pang of sadness in her heart. It's true, even a tiger spares its own cubs. Although Connor wasn't Claire's son, they were still connected by blood and family ties. Chloe couldn't wrap her head around why Claire harbored so much hatred for Connor. If it was just about power and money, it didn't seem worth it, not enough to wish death upon someone.

After some time, Connor lifted his head. He had managed to hide all traces of vulnerability, his eyes now glinting with a newfound fierceness and clarity. "Chloe, I promise you, I won't gamble with my life anymore. For you, I'll take care of myself. I want to live well. I want to see who winds up in hell first, me or Claire."

That night, Chloe insisted they leave the old house. The thought of Claire's unpredictable nature still sent shivers down her spine. A wild card, ruthless and without limits. Like a ticking time bomb, Chloe had no intention of provoking her.

Life seemed to return to a brief lull. Claire didn't seem interested in bothering Chloe about that whole stone incident, at least she didn't come looking for trouble. The wedding date for her and Connor was set for two months later, right on Connor's birthday. Wedding planning was left to the pros. Connor had even brought in a team from Hollywood, complete with top-notch planners. Chloe didn't have to lift a finger. These days, she was living pretty comfortably. She gelled well with everyone in her new surroundings, especially Edgar.

Edgar was a riot, always dragging her out for shopping sprees, spa days, horseback riding, golfing, or even flying small planes. He was more polished than any woman and wilder than most men. His interests were all over the place. He lived like a refined lady but never dabbled in business socializing. Chloe admired how genuinely happy he seemed. Maybe his contentment was rubbing off on her because she felt incredibly relaxed and happy recently.

That weekend, Edgar enticed Chloe into yet another beauty treatment. They lounged on the beds, enjoying the pampering while chatting.

"Hey, Chloe, it's the boss's birthday soon. Got any ideas for a gift?"

Chloe, eyes closed and utterly relaxed, replied, "I think I'll give him a bottle of cologne."

"Really? That's kind of generic, don't you think?" Edgar teased, knowing Grant didn't even wear cologne.

Chloe smirked, "It's my own special formula."

Now Edgar was intrigued. Chloe was a woman of many talents, from design to creating essential oils, so cologne was right up her alley. "So that's why your office looks like a science lab these days."

"Make sure to whip up a bottle for me too~ Edgar added with a grin want the women's perfume. Not a

fan of that rugged guy Sove

Chloe laughed and agreed. Then she turned the tables, "What about you? What are you planning to give?"

"Oh, I'm stumped. What if I just offer

myself as a gift? Think he'd be into

it?"

Plagar joked, but there was belongs to en.kikistoricent

playful twinkle in his eye.
